Default 2 monks are not better then 1

I often find myself casting heal on an ally that was just healed by the other monk about 0.2 seconds before me. This has the effect of making me waste 5-10 mana.

Sometimes I cast heal on an ally about 0.2 seconds before other monk. This has the effect of making the other monk waste 5-10 mana.

Very mana inneficient.

Perhaps an elem/monk that spams heal party (or blood necro/pool of blood) would be better then another monk. Monks good for healing 1 player and protection buffs. elem/monk and necro good for massive PARTY heals.

you monks should divy up on whos in charge of healing who. Also, a monk healing another monk can be diseptive when fire is focused on one only one of you.

A party that practices good aggro control wont find itself in a position of having its monk being wacked to death. And neither will a good monk put himself in that position of getting himself wacked to death.

And trying to get 2 party members to communicate with eachother is impossible, let alone 2 monks.

Wow buggsy, I completely agree with you. This one time, while I was doing the Ring of Fire for the 14th time (it's the only mission I find challenging--when are they going to add more end game content?!), we had 2 Monk primaries and myself, a Mo/E. It was complete Chaos!

Right in the beginning of the mission I knew I was in for oodles of trouble when we chose to engage that HUGE group of fleeing Mursaat! I mean I love challenges, but this was complete nonsense with 3 healers. The Mursaat were doing major damage across the team and our healing was barely keeping up. Everytime I went to jam on my nifty Heal Other spell, I found that my target was healed to full health RIGHT before--I mean in less than .0435 seconds! This was definitely a time I wish I went for a Mesmer primary so I could utilize that amazing fast casting attribute. What good is Divine Favor if you are always healing too late?!

To make a long story short, I winded up with no energy right at the end of the battle. To make matter's even worse, our W/Mo went down and trained 2 Necromancer's on me! I kept yelling for heals, figuring one of the other monks could easily pick up my slack, but low and behold we were ALL out of energy! I went down and soon after 3 other's followed, including the 2 other healers. Man, I went nuts. I couldn't believe it. Right when I was ready to ask the others what the hell happened, I had the same epiphany that brought you to these boards--having more than 1 healer is pointless. I talked to the rest of the group about it, and convinced them to get rid of the other two healers for 2 W/Mo's. It's obvious why they are sooo much better. They can do damage and even heal when it becomes completely obvious their energy won't be wasted. I'm starting to think they might need a slight nerf--maybe give Warriors healing spells less potency or something.

Having more than 1 healer is a waste of energy and even more importantly a waste of a team spot. From now on, I'd rather take Devona over a 2nd healer.

For those of you fellow Monks who are curious about the outcome, we winded up completing the entire mission in 49 minutes--it was a new record for me. And I learned a valuable lesson that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Dont bother aging your keyboard by typing, "Need healing." Monks are looking at 1 thing, and 1 thing only (with occasional glances at the radar). Theyre looking at the team healthbar. They know exactly who needs healing where.

Lesson to people who have never played monk before: If you dont get healed, its not cause we dont like you, its not cause your not deserving of a heal, its not cause your character looks ugly. Its only because were out of mana.


Dont ever bother asking for a heal.

oh, I was talking for pvp. but yeah in pve only a secondary monk will do if your team is very smart.

If your in a PUG for pve then your probably completely right.

The best thing for a team in pve is not even a monk, its patience and smart players.

In' PvP, it's fun to have a 2nd monk (or even the only monk for that matter) that's focused on smiting and has Warrior as secondary profession. Use him as warrior bait to keep your healing monk free. Go into a defensive stance and then use Symbol of Wrath to deal 137 damage to any warriors flailing away at the air.

In serious PvP, having anything less than two dedicated healers will get you slaughtered.

Usually after ascension i'd say 99% of the monks are decent enough at healing. The problem with the statement "2 monks are not better than one", is the fact that it's a very broad statement. I could easily say that two are better than one if you involve a case of a Protection prayer based monk and a Healing prayer based. One would cast 75% of the enchantments and heal 25% of the time, the other would cast 25% of the enchantments and heal 75% of the time. Doing this you'll have an even 100% of each. I understand your point since most often you won't be able to find both monks, but you might need to specify your statement more .(*Cough, Alesia and Lina *)

this game is amazing, lots of strats on pvp, but any team in any match should always have at least 2healers... maybe 1healer/1prot with a very good management....

In PvP, often it require 3 monks to keep each other alive... if one is getting under attack, another got shut down... you will still have another one... of course... if the enemy consist of 2 shut down and 3 spiker... you might want to start rethinking your playing style right in the middle of the battle.

Two monks won't necessarily overheal all the time - especially if one of them is me.

If I see Monk #2 overhealing 0.2 seconds after me, I hold off on how frequently I heal - obviously he's going to heal stuff when it's around 75% health. For me personally as a Mo/N, this usually means either (a) Speccing Protection/Divine, (b) waiting til stuff is at 40-60% health to heal, or (c) being Healing, but spending a large chunk of time/energy on Blood Ritualing the other Monks/Elementalists/Necros. Naturally when things get a bit hectic, I fall back as mostly a healer (but of course Blood Ritual is still awesome for helping that 2nd healer.)

In PVP, I'd definitely agree with what Vermilion Okeanos said - 3 monks seems extremely important. 1 Healing/1 Prot doesn't seem to work as well as in PVP, since if the Healer gets shut down/focused the party pretty much has zero healing.
