GW is a team game - never heard of enchantment stacking? You cast IW and request your monk or whoever to cast some cheap mostly useless enchantments on you and if the opposing party hasn't got any "remove all enchantments" skill or sth. then they can shove their disenchants where the sun don't shine - just as good an argument as yours.
|
Yes, that's certainly, enchant stacking is a great way to protect some of the meat on a character, but the real problem occurs when you're fighting in a central area on a PvP map, and someone uses Well of the Profane. While some say it's silly to worry about one skill, especially one so expensive and with such a long cast time, it can actually be quite dangerous, especially to characters that live or die based on enchants.

Read the text more carefully - you'll be using Frenzy or Flurry so your 1.33 second figure is pure nonsense.

Fair enough, I never claimed my numbers were correct, or even close, nor is the point of my post about the numbers.

With a score of 9 in Fast Casting IW takes a whole of 0.68 seconds to cast (and that's INCLUDING the aftercast - compare it with a 0.07 of e.g. the distracting shot) - I LOVE to see that interrupted effectively.
|
It's certainly not easy to interrupt, but a good mesmer still can. The interrupt spells are faster, and the FC bonus can go both ways. Not saying it'll happen every time, in fact, more often than not, you'll get IW back up, but the fact that's an enchant build is the true weakness.
Now, IW can have a place in a team, but in almost all cases, if you want DPS, you're better with another war, or an air ele, and if you want a mesmer, with the standard caster shutdown, you want him hiding on the backlines, not swinging around a sword. The real danger lies in AoE attacks, not being focused.

Depends on the map. OK - instant AoE attacks are always good, but e.g. spells like Fire Storm, Meteor and similar are quite useless in PvP (though they excel at PvE) unless the objective of the map is to camp some location. AoE DoT attacks are easily avoided - though I must agree that the instant ones can wreak havoc - on the other hand - the only characters in a team which are close together are usually warriors, and you wouldn't want to target them first, would you? And if you do, then you're missing an opportunity to blast somebody else, like a Monk or sth.
That's why I find build-discussions pointless. That is: you can discuss if a build is better or worse and if it MIGHT work or sth. but discussing the outcome of any GvG battle on the basis of builds is pure nonsense. In the end it always comes down to the player's skill. I am sure that a good guild with horrible builds (let's assume they made them for fun ^^) would win against a not-so-good guild with better builds, because the latter would simply not know how to use the full potential of their builds.

Yeah, I mean, we can run circles around this all day, on roving maps (Burial Grounds, Underworld, Broken Tower), the AoE spells don't matter as much, but on KotH maps (Courtyard, *HoH*), if you're meleeing the holding team's monk/hero/whatever's on the dias, there will be AoE, from one side or the other.
Edit: And the dangerous AoE I was talking about was something like Well of the Profane, firestorm and meteor aren't the end of the world.

Just how many enchantments are you stacking on yourself again? I've usually been able to knock out an IW guy with a single Drain, after which they run around useless for a while. You're going to stack, what, Illusion of Weakness? More power to you. You're still a soft target charging to the front. You get out of healing range like most Warriors do, and you're in serious trouble.
All of these justifications like 'oh, I'll have my Monks stack chaff on me!' are just plain painful. You want your Monks, already being harassed and beat on and worried about their own survival, to casually waste energy dropping chaff on you? Spell Breaker on a melee class? C'mon people, don't try and defend bad individual strategy with bad team strategy.
Peace,
-CxE

That's GENIUS. No one will EVER suspect spellbreaker on a MELEE CLASS! Cept for the fact that no one will care either Wait, Ghostly Hero counts as hybrid melee right? :P
Yeah in all seriousness, I think the IW popularity has died down severely as the game evolved or, you know changed. And enchantment removal hasn't even been buffed yet.

First off, mesmers are under rated. If you use then correcting, you can seriously tweek an opponent out till there death. Im a mes/warr and set myself up to be a warrior slayer. Its funny in the arenas watching warriors sprinting towards me as if im a typical weakling only to find themselves face down dead with an axe in there head.
