Default W/E getting killed

I have a Warrior [Hammers]/Elementalist [fire] (but i only have four levels in Elementalist skills), but the main problem isn't my energy. I have no way (other than healing signet, which usually ends up killing me) of healing myself. To top that off, I'm in Lion's Arch and still have starter armor. What's a good armor to get? And is there any skills or weapons I can get to help me heal myself? Or do I just have to make sure there's always a monk watching my back.

And what are good fire spells? I like burning the enemies before bashing them down. Or should i bash then burn?

IMO you need to take a look at a few of the guides that are in this site (by far the best GW site I've seen). The Game machanices and armor guides are good. You should beable to find a (level 10) armorer in Lion's gate (how you got there without upgradeing is amazing), or any other major outpost for that matter. And as far as healing yourself, well you're a W/E not a W/Mo, you aren't supossed to beable to heal well, good news is you should beable to do more damage. I'd say go as pure Damage dealing as you can (may want to give axes a try) and count on a good healer being around. Hope that helps some. GL

War(anything)/fire is a worthless combination. I would suggest changing to another element or remaking your char.

Regardless of what anyone says I dont think we will see a lot of War/Fire's at the top of the ladders any time soon.

How do you figure that? War/Fire's pretty good for crowd control and burst damage.. Immolate/Inferno/Phoenix and such are spells that can really help a warrior out.. esp. if you're going with adrenal skills for the rest.

That said, I wouldn't do hammers + fire.. air/earth/water are better, cause all have knockdown-type spells that work beautifully with the hammer skill line.

I have a w/E and dont have too many probs ~as I am only lv 11 and havent played long am sure that I will learn a lot as I progress through the game I like the fire storm for those group encounters .
I have also put most of my att points in swordsmanship (8) str (5+1)fire only (2)and can dish out some fairly good damage and I am always the last man standing when questing with others of like lv`s havent pvp yet ...

Hammer and Fire is honestly not a good combination. I would not go as far as Raiddin in saying W/E are uselss, but those two do not really complement each other.

If you want to stick with hammers, I suggest you use something like Water Trident or Whirlwind to complement the knockdown of Hammer. That, or use buffs like Armor of Earth or Ward Against Melee to tank. Hammers already do massive damage, and probably more than most spells can do for their mana cost.

W/E using other weapons have slightly more options. Their faster attack speed makes Conjure spells more useful. Since they do less damage and often inflict conditions, damaging local AoE spells from Fire will help more.

The psychotic but deadly combo of Conjure Flame > Glyph of Lesser Energy > Mark of Rodwort is also an option if you really want to stick with fire. If you don't know, this combo sets the target on fire for as long as you keep hitting them, adding 7 pips of health degen. Each weapon type can do magic with this build. Axe can stack conditions, Sword can Sever/Gash [for a total of 10 health degen and -20% max health] or do massive damage w/ Galrath/Pure Strike, and Hammer can knockdown, rendering them helpless as they lose 7 health a second [Backbreaker comes to mind]. However, with this build, you must use adrenaline based skills, as most of yours will be used in casting the first three spells. Battle Rage [if anyone finds it] is a great suggestion with any weapon set. If you have all those, I suggest you try it out once.

Hmm interesting.

Just reading the thread and i see alot of diffrent opinoins on the issue ... what you you experts recomend for builds using

w/e with emphisis on swords and Water (namely ice) skills. I have only been playing the game for like 2 days,but in PvE at least using some basic skillsi have been pretty effective. Course i'm only level 10, so there is plenty of room to do diffrent things for when i get up to 20 , but this is what i do right now ...

I use ice spike and frost burst ... the AofE damage is real useful i breaking up assults. Basicllay i use sprint (or armor of mist once i find it ) to sprint to a healer or a caster, drawing the melee mobs to follow me ahead of my party. I l already have run of lesser Energy cast, so i blow an ice spikes (cause that is the slowest, i want to spike as much damage as possible in the shortest period of time) i use a power attack on the guy, then i use frost burst. After that its mostly adrenal skills (frenzy to build adrenal fast, endure pain to deal with the double damage component) then once my glyph, mana, and skill recharge, i do it again. since i only need a glyph and a spell, or mana and a spell ( and ihave 2 spells with like damage) thats a good compliment cause i always have a spell that i can use against a horde that does well.

This build is not an anti-caster build, but an anti-warrior build. I want enemies to fight me so i can deal the most damage. After all the warriors of a party are dead, killing mages is no contest.

Once again, i'm pretty noobish, so any advice on how to do this would be awesome. Thanks

Yea, W/E = squishy

again though I suggest reading the W/E Build article on this site.

The Snowman is quite squishy at the moment, which is why I keep Sprint and Endure pain. if your gona die... RUN lol

the way I see it is that if a warrior is going down there are two soloutions... or try one of two things..

1) Escape: using knockdown skills, defence skills or running away manouvers.
2) Kill enemy before they kill you... build your character to do maybe less damage but faster, so in the long run you do more damage.

Obviously every warrior is trying to kill as fast as possible.. but consider carfully if your elementalist skills help or hinder this... concentrate your character on either an ability to escape.. or go ALL out to kill quick... consider that alot of elementalist skills take several seconds to cast... several seconds in frenzy mode is alot of damage.. do your sums, become a more efficient killer..

I find with Air magic: Gust and..Whirlwind (my only two elem skills atm) I can use the Escaping option.. until I can get the air skills that will give me more damage Conjure lightning)

Endure pain is a good skill from the strength line that will buff your health for a short time enabling you to either finish off the foe or run from the battle. Phoneix and Lava Font are also good skills for a warrior to have since they hit all the enemies surrounding you in melee range, although these work best in PVE rather than in PVP because once someone sees your hands go up they will counter as fast as possible. I play a Warrior/Elemental currently at lvl 16 and stick mainly with the earth line for armour of earth and magnetic aura, both are two good skills for a tanking warrior to have. Valarian.

As for better armour, you can get that in postsear Asc City.....better than what you stated you're wearing currently. I was able to get AL50 everywhere and AL55 with bonus to attribute there.

Alright I have to admit, watching someone usuing a W/E is bad, but using one u can do SERIOUS, and i mean SERIOUS, damage. I mean, y dont u just bash'em down, then throw a Lava Font or something? that is very useful. And getting Flare usually allows u to use range. How do i know this? I am a W/E too and it is benefiting me pretty well. By the way, just Healing Sig is enough. Just use it at the right time and it will reward you. Plus, Guild Wars is a Party Friendly game so bring a healer or Henchmen (Although they suck) that heals with you. It never hurts, and all the money that you lose sharing usually comes back at you after you kill a few more enemies. Warriors also hav Defense buffs and Offense buffs so healing won't be AS neccessary

I don't know about endgame, but my W/E14 stays alive more than not. I use axe/fire/air for lots of AoE. I mostly stick to the axe, but use my elemental skills for weakening the agro when I'm surrounded. Depending on the mob and my group, firestorm and lightening flash does a good job of weakening the target before I get there.

p.s. this is strictly PvE so far... I've yet to try PvP

OK im worried now and can see why maybe i get ignored in grp selecting alot.

Im lvl16 w/e

To find out know most people see me as "squishy" is kinda a "oh bugger" reaction as put some time into my toon hoping once at lvl20 will be worthwhile in the tombs.

In pve i can safely say i kick butt - been in grps b4 and got mass mobbed, a frozen burst and fire storm later with a couple of axe chops - 5 dead mobs on ground with most others not even got a hit in properly.

I was hoping for similar style in the tombs, as my tatics are in multiple mobs situations pretty similar and it either kills em all pretty quick or at least messes em up badly enough to even allow alesia to handle her own.

Please tell me that a w/e can be worthwhile in the tombs at the moment im feeling a bit downhearted, several posts not just this one are saying the same.

Tombs? they can be good even in guild...Fianna run...or at least at one point did run a w/e during the final beta event:

WarEl Hammer - 12+4 Hammer, 10 Earth, 8+1 Strength
Backbreaker*, Crushing, Hammer Bash, Aftershock, Mighty Blow, Ward against Melee, Sprint, Berzerker Stance

Dont worry if people react badly when they see you as w/e. As I maintain, all classes can do something, w/e is just fairly unknown territory for most, and therefore they dont understand its capabilities, and therefore they reject it. Personally, i think they are limited in use, but what they can do, they do well.

I think we got best of both worlds

We can buff with the earth line or dmg deal with fire or hex with water and hack and slash with axe/hammer/sword

Use a totem in offhand for extra energy can get same as any primary ele, then use only adrenaline skills and you can dish out better than others.

If you get energy drained then have your secondary weapon set with a shield to increase your defence and hack away as a plain old warrior till your enegery goes up and the mes/necro/mo guy is dead. whichever ones drains energy.

You know guys are gonna do the enegery block for casters so get in middle of grp first and cast ur aoe's before they get the drains in. If doesnt kill a few of em then will at least soften em up for your hammer/axe/sword follow up.
Plus you waste some of the monk engery making him heal whoever with a chunk of their health gone.

I dunno my views anyway.
