one reason to use drakes (sort of mentioned already): the elite skill Greater Conflagration, which turns dmg to fire. Add the skill Storm Chaser, and energy is not much of a problem.

I am a R/Mo (i don't know how people survive without monk as secondary) anyway I have Druids cause before i had a really big problem with the low energy and low energy regeneration of rangers, with druids it is way more helpful, but i still run out of energy eaisly.

Not that this is a secret or anything but - yes the collector armour you might find will be a higher in AL than what you had at the time you entered the area where the collector is (providing you've not ascended etc.) but it's base...with no bonuses for protection.
Also if you know someone that's further along in the game and within the same class, you might want to find out from them what materials are needed for that armour (or find it here on the forums) so that you can free up some Inventory/Storage space.
If you're in a guild, give all Warrior specific material to warriors, ranger specific materials to Rangers etc.

If your a heavy energy user then go with druids, it looks pretty decent and the energy bonuses are extremely helpful.
If you are a secondary mesmer and intend to use greater conflag, then go for a drakescale armour + greater conflag + mantra of flame for serious tanking from melee damages.
I personally go with druids since I do get drained on energy quite quick and my expertise is low (10) mainly because I like the illusion line of magic and wilderness line and I don't want to sacrifice either so I have them both on 9 and 9 (just trying out things, will change attributes later).
So anyway those 2 sets of armours are really the main choices, if they still had the old hunter armour that had +15 vs piercing damage, then that would have been a third main choice...

This thread has been more than helpful. Gonna grab druids armors there now.
Aside from that, I don't know anything about the rangers "ascended" armor. Can we obtain it now? What are the stats on it that make it so cool?

I don't know that 10 is low, thats still a 40% drop in cost for all your ranger skills, 5 becomes 3, 10 becomes 6.

Actually, 5 becomes 3 and 10 becomes 6 with a 9 Expertise. If you aren't going to put at least 12 into Expertise, there's almost no point in going over 9, although perhaps you have some Expertise-linked skill that works better with a 10...

Ahh... I never liked Tiger's Fury much, mainly because I never liked Beast Mastery much, and so never put many points into it.

yeah but you keep saying you dont run out of energy much
if im not carrying a glyph to take energy cost away from my next spell...then i run out of energy fast
a AoE spell, and then using some ranger skills can suck you dry fast

Drakescale, Druid and Studded are all good.
With the Drakescale armor, it let you tank all the kindle arrows, greater conflag converted damage and pyromancer skills. Fire damage is very common and being able to absorb it well makes place you on the bottom list of the assist train.
With Studded, you gain the best protection against the most common damage in Tomb, which is air magic. Watching one of those cookie cutter cheesy Aeromancer waste all his energy nuking you without even breaking the regen from Troll ungent is just hilarous.
So before saying that Druid is the only competitive armor, think again.

Yes but thats only if i'm only using my rangers skills, I tend to use a bit of my seconday Mesmers skills alot as well, mainly conjure phantasm and phantom pain, which both costs me a bit since I tend use them very often and plus I always keep up tigers fury and spam poison arrow + hunters shot alot.

True but I have it at 10 for other expertise linked skills like throw dirt and whirling defense that I use quite a bit. I've done playing around a bit and put my stats properly to a 12 expertise, 12 marks, 8 illusion and 8 wildernes... i still get 7 attributes left which I decided to just pump in inspiration or domination whenever required since I can only take my beastmastery to 5 with 7 which makes no difference to tigers fury.

On second thought, I think that Druid armor is the worst. Mainly because Rangers use Energy faster than they recover it. Just by spamming Dual Shot with Kindle Arrow, I was draining my energy supply really fast, even with 12 in expertise.

Ahh see there's the rub - I don't use any "spells". I'm playing pure ranger... I have some leftover ranks in Death magic currently, but that is only because I couldn't get any more ranks in Expertise, Wilderness Survival, or Marksmanship, and because I like playing around with that Necrotic Traversal. With a 12 in Expertise and very rarely using any non-ranger skill, I have yet to think to myself "Man, I could sure use more energy."

Sorry but saying that Druid's armor is the ONLY competitive choice is a bit narrow minded. And that's not really meant as an insult, but I couldn't think of a better word for it. It just depends on your build.
I too hardly ever run out of energy because I use a lot of low energy cost skills to begin with anyway. So a lot of times my energy bar is sitting at half most of the time, I have an excess amount of energy.
My point is that saying that there's only one armor choice is completely wrong as others have pointed out.

IMO it really depends on your play style and equipped skills, if you find yourself short on energy alot go with the druid's set as I do.

I hate the druids armor, but I use every piece but the BP, 2 less energy doesn't bother me.
Only time i have energy problems is with concussion shot (or anything else that is 25), but thats what marksman wager is for.
