Notice how your quote disproves you? Hammers have the highest base DPS, but you'll notice that as soon as you add conjures and damage boosting attacks the other two weapons easily exceed hammer output. The problem is that so many effects in GW are based on how often you strike, like conjures, strength of honour, barbs, order of pain etc... so when you talk about buffed warriors the sword and axe outperform the hammer in damage output. Axe skills often add damage, and hammer skills tend not to. Hammer isn't a damage dealer's weapon, it's a disruption weapon; as such it has some of the best 1 on 1 performance in the game, but it loses to axes on pure damage output.

I'm not terribly certain how he is calculating that. Doing some calculations of my own gather 12.8 DPS for simple axe attacks, 13.9 DPS for simple sword attacks, and 15.4 DPS for simple hammer attacks.
((6+28)/2) x (1/1.33) = 12.78
((15+22)/2) x (1/1.33) = 13.91
((19+35)/2) x (1/1.75) = 15.43
Which is to say, the average of the maximum and minimum damage of a weapon multiplied by how often it strikes in a second is equal to its base damage per second.
This does not include criticals, namely because I do not know how to calculate criticals. (I know it strikes for maximum damage and raises your effective skill level by four, but I do not know how often criticals occur.)
And, just for the sake of accuracy, this is what is considered "base" damage, before armor class or weapon skill is taken into consideration. The damage per second of considering targets of 100AL and 60AL against someone with 16 weapon skill and someone with 12 weapon skill are as follows:
Axe
12 skill vs. 60AL = 12.78
12 skill vs. 100AL = 6.39
16 skill vs. 60AL = 18.08
16 skill vs. 100AL = 9.04
Sword
12 skill vs. 60AL = 13.91
12 skill vs. 100AL = 6.95
16 skill vs. 60AL = 19.67
16 skill vs. 100AL = 9.84
Hammer
12 skill vs. 60AL = 15.43
12 skill vs. 100AL = 7.72
16 skill vs. 60AL = 21.82
16 skill vs. 100AL = 10.91
I don't know how that guy was calculating damage; all I know is that even if I set the formula to assume each strike was for maximum damage I still come up with a smaller DPS than he does.
Now, when you take skills into consideration, things do get a little hazy. I would definitely say its true that hammers fair worse than swords or axes when it comes to adrenaline and even energy (Zealous upgrades), but the value of knockdown is tremendous. I know I've played around with a build that uses Devastating Hammer, a 7A knockdown + weakness, linked with Heavy Blow, a 6A + lose all A knockdown + damage if the target has weakness, and it works very well with just one warrior, and two can take someone out of the game permanently, unless something like Sympathetic Visage or Soothing Images is used. If you find spells like Ward Against Melee and Aegis annoying, there are even skills that knock down the opponent if they dodge or block the attack. It all works out pretty well.
Each weapon has it's own advantages, but don't discount hammers just because they attack slower. It certainly has it's disadvantages, but they're there for a reason.

Number crunching can only take you so far. For the people that say hammers aren't intended for damage output... you're completely wrong.
I take out 100% casters (if they're not being healed by anyone) in my one skill combo. There are also numerous skills to boost the damage. Power Attack, Irresistable Blow, Mighty Blow, as well as the skills that compliment each other.
The skill string Devastating Hammer -> Mighty Blow -> Heavy Blow -> Crushing Blow deals out so much freaking damage. The bonus damage alone is 80 damage. You also have the four normal hammer attacks (about 35 dmg each against casters) for 140 damage. You also get the weakness and deep wound from that. This all comes from 5 energy, and lays the caster out for about 7 seconds without being able to do anything.
I just have to say that form my experience in PvP, my hammer has been pretty deadly, and inflicted massive amounts of damage.
