Where + Why do you put your skills where you do?
I was just wondering, randomly, where everyone likes to put their skills on their bar. I know some people like to organize by purpose, some people by frequency of use, and many other methods. Often skills that combo together (ex. sever+gash) get put next to each other. Usually the least used skill goes on #8 lol.
Anyways, here is mine, I base mine off of what the general purpose of the skill is. I will use my R/Me and Mo/N as examples:
#1 is for a powerful attack or spell. Something that I use often, but not all the time. Usually its Punishing Shot or Infuse Health.
#2 is for a common utility spell. For my ranger its distracting shot, for my monk its healing touch, a good self healing spell.
#3 is for my most spammable spell. Usually its penetrating shot and dwanyas kiss The reason is because the way my hands rest on the keyboard (when playing GW) my left index finger is right on top of #3
#4 is for a stance, preperation, or skill that I use at fairly regular intervals. Usually its Tigers Fury or Offering of Blood. This is because it is very easy to move my left index finger over to #4 and back to #3.
#5 Is usually something I almost never use. Usually its a Capture Sig, or in PvP it gets replaced by a fire and forget spell like echo or an life siphon
#6 Is for another rarly used skill. Usually I put some other rarely used thing here like Whirling Defense or Mend Ailment.
#7 is for a spell used sometimes in certain situaitons. Its usually something like healing seed or pin down.
#8 is always a res. Res signet for my ranger, restore life for my monk. In pvp, Resotre Life would get replaced by something, but my ranger almost always carries his res sig.

Yup, very similar to yours, expect I have a 5 button mouse, so 7 & 8 get put on the thumb and pinky buttons respectively. When I play my ranger or mesmer, those are the interrupts, don't even have to move my fingers.
Otherwise if it's my elementalist, it's flare or lightning orb or whatever, you get the picture.
1 is usually a stance, preparation, attack buff or something like that. One of the skills I typically need to reset every once in a while steadily during combat.
2 & 3 are attack skills that have low recharge, since it's easiest to shift middle finger from 'w' and index from 'd' to place them on 2 & 3.
4 is my heavy hitter if I'm an elementalist, I don't cast this often. If I'm a ranger, it's a trap. Mesmer, something like backfire, or some other 15 energy skill.
5 I have to reach, so it's typically something defensive that helps me get away from enemies. Since when I'm using this I'm probably not as concerned about attacking, I can tolerate that it shifts my hand out of optimal position for sequencing attacks etc. Hopefully I don't need this one that often.
6 is the rez signet, the one at the very end that I hopefully never have to use, and then no more than once. More often than not, I end up clicking the icon om my skill bar on screen rather than trying to find the '6' button on my keyboard.
Cheers

On a caster, I do this:
1, 2, 3 are quick recharge skills that I use often. I use keyboard to activate these skills.
4, 5, 6 are usually skills that I don't use as much. Sometimes, I can use keyboard for 4, but 5 and 6 are usually clicked with mouse.
7 and 8 are skills I may use more often, than 4, 5, 6, and are not slow. I use mouse to click these.
Not sure about warriors yet.

My setup is very similar.
1 is either my spammable skill or a powerful one which also does a condition
2 is usually a longer-recharge skill but very useful
3 is like 2
4 is either my stance or a crippling skill like pin down or hamstring
5 is a self heal if I have one, or a stance
6 is a rarely used skill like a cap signet
7 is a conditional skill like a nature ritual or selective-target spell like backfire
8 is most of the time, res
I only use keyboard for 1-5 and I mouse click 7 and 8. 6 is seldom used, but I can do either keyboard or mouse for it.

running w/n
since movement/combat are all w,a,s,d, space keys, 1234 are the keys that are usually used the most. Non-conditional skills like disrupting chop and adrenal skills as well as sprint
my 5678 keys are my conditional keys [conditions lol] Skills/spells I'd use only if there's a certain condition that has to be met. Plague Touch, Rend Enchantments, Victory is Mine!, etc.
