What makes a good warrior?
I've been reading the forums for a while, and it seems that most people hate warriors, think they're noobs, etc. But what do you think makes a good warrior? What does he have to do to bring something extra to the team?

A good warrior, actually a good player period, will always try to work with the team they are with. Unfortunately, a lot of the trash talk you find on the boards is about those who think they are l337 because they are the tank and can kill lots of things on their own.
I admit I sometimes I get caught up in doing as much damage as possible, but we have to remember that we have a 'support' group to help keep us alive and help slow down or disrupt our targets. Instead of rushing in to do as much damage as possible, it helps to keep an eye out for your team as well.
A good warrior will remember that he/she might be able to take on 5 mobs at once, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he/she SHOULD.

I, actually, as a Monk, think, thats EXACTLY what he should do. When those 5 mobs are the correct ones, your team is going after, that is.
that way i have the easiest job healing the guy. i can effectively protect him, when everything is after him. Or her, that is. I keep my energy, nobody has stress, the warrior does what he likes (standing between 5 mobs) and the casters nuke away like theres no tomorrow. might get boring after a little while, but hey, that is how you do it.
so i ,personally, like the cowboy style tanks: running around in a way that gathers up the mobs around him, and not the squishies.
agreed?

After a rather disgraceful session at Droknar's arena last night, I have no idea what makes a "good" warrior, in PvP at least. In PvE I'm usually concerned with making sure the people without armor aren't getting hit. In PvP it's harder to draw another player off a monk than it is to draw an NPC mob off of one so I'm kind of stuck.

In pve, i think warriors have a very viable place of being the first ones into the mix and the last ones out of it. In pvp however, its somewhat different and for many of the things that warriors are supposed to achieve, other jobs can do the same thing but better. The problem lies in the total reliance on physical melee damage, in both offense and defense. In pvp. its kinda rare when that reliance is actualy a benefit as even other warriors will tend to ignore you (as a warrior) in the tombs style pvp, hell even in the arena style pvp.

Too many 'warriors' think they are kings of the hill because they have paid someone to drag their butt to the forge, bought uber max damage gear, then go back to the lvl 10 arena and convince themselves that they have 'skillz' when they are able to defeat new players who are still using pre searing equipment.
And when the team's necro is quietly working to debuff and slow and generally debuff enemies, and the warrior starts boasting about he was doing 100 point damage hits and how he is uber - well - lets just say that a lot of warriors are - arrogant self absorbed wannabe knowitalls who no matter what they do - are still imature unlikable idiots that, where there any choice in the matter, would have been left back outside the arena to rot.
A good warrior is a good warrior - just like any class. A bad warrior can go jump in the lake with all the other bad players of other classes.

A good warrior knows to stop attacking an enemy with a Shield of Judgement up unless the enemy is a swing away from death.
A good warrior knows to stop attacking an enemy with Mark of Protection up. And please if you're the one calling the targets, change the target so the moron warriors STOP attacking as well.
There are probably better reasons, but these two are really important to me.

A good warrior in pve takes a lot of damage and survives a long time, he gets in there and gets hit first while the others do damage and heal, can also be a puller. In pvp a good warrior is a disruptor (disabling skills) a protector keep the other warriors off the monk by using knockdown or similar, a monk/spell caster killer (slow them down, do some ok damage). In pvp warriors are often last to be killed, thus you need to be up and running all the time and kicking some ass consistantly.

i have no idea what a good Warrior is in PVP because i personally have never noticed any, nor has any of the builds i've been given by experts on here been able to let me kill other players effectively in Tombs with a Warrior
i say in PVE a good Warrior is someone who knows when to retreat. in PVE i'd always be the only Warrior left alive (and often the only party member left alive) because i run if we are sure to lose an encounter
it seems 99% of Warriors just stay fighting a losing battle until they're dead, no matter what.

What she said...
Good warriors have a battle engine... A system which allows him to do something to mess with the enemy in as consistent a role as possible with as few weaknesses as possible.
I'd say bad warriors don't follow target calls, don't give them correctly, or just have skills that are just 'there' which cost too much energy and are far too conditional to be used appropriately...
ANY good class build in fact uses a 'SYSTEM'. Skills which work together to achieve something...
And no, a good warrior does NOT have to be the one to kill everybody with high dmg skills, he can disrupt better than most people want to admit...

A good warrior can mean two things.
1. They're good in PVE
2. They're good in PVP
The two are both hard in their own way to master, therefore, a person who might be able to do all the missions easily can be horrible in PVP. Meanwhile a guy who is awesome in PVP cannot do PVE worth a dime. The important thing in making a warrior the best you can is to find a useful theme and find the most comfortable and stable way to fit your theme the best.
If you want to be a good tank for PVE then you need to know how to call targets, follow orders, and lead a party. It'd also help if you had decent armor and skills supporting your tanking role (Swordsmanship/Tactic's works well).
In PVP Tanking is rather difficult because despite the fact AI tends to attack the first thing it sees, most people attack the most vulnerable/threatening target it sees. A swordmanship/tactic's would scarcely be useful anymore. Since you're not getting attacked much, it's time to bring out the damage. If you want to annoy your opponents to death, go hammer and chain knockdown/interrupt combos. If you want to work their monks out then you should try a series of Axe spamming damage skills. Combining these with strength skills along with the basic inherint armor penetration will help scream "Hey, I'm not just here for looks, you better run", much better than a guy actually typing "wtF you hax0r`z!!1!!"
