Some armours specifically differentiate between piercing damage and not - I have not seen ones that specify slashing over blunt - but I suspect some monsters have this
Anyway - there is
Armour - protects against everything
Armour vrs physical - adds to armour vrs slash blunt and piercing
Armour vrs elemental - adds to armour vrs fire ice earth lightning
Armour vrs piercing - adds to armour vrs piercing
Armour vrs fire
Armour vrs ice
And I am sure there are others too.

To my knowledge there is no difference between the attack types, unless facing armour that protects more against one or another. So - assuming a caster with AL60 they are the same.
There are creature types that take more/less damage from the various types, so they (creatures) most likely have armour ratings for each type, but a standard set of caster armour appears to be equal vs all three.

I asked this question a while ago and yeah, the difference is only noticed through certain armor types and skills that defend against said types.
Though hammers got it good because I don't see any skill / armor at all that resists blunt dmg...

Hard to make armor that resists a 35lb anvil crushing your skull.

if you think bout it it's pretty logical.
blunt.. doesn't need to get trough the armor to deal damage thus most damage.
piercing just pierces trough it thus second highest amount of damage.
slashing just slashes against it, only good with bare flesh really, thus lowest amount of damage only leaving a scratch on your awesome armor.

Assuming you have the same level of mastery with each weapon and every thing else is constant they will do the same damage.

I guess yes.

Wow Evo, bro, stop thinking and preserve your braincells for your daily activities. I can only imagine how many burned out when you thought up your post.
Anyway, Certain shields or mods have specific def. Like this shield I saw has +5armor VS blunt dmg, ideal VS hammer, but swords and axe get away around it. Axe has both slash and piercing(battle pick).
Also, in real life, anything piercing works best VS heavy armor, I dunno if the same formula is used ingame, personally, just go w/ higher numbers.

If he is asking if a sword that does 9 damage and a hammer that does 9 damage and an axe that does 9 damage all do 9 damage then he is a retard.
I thought he wanted a comparitive description on the damage types, such as does slashing have the same effect as blunt etc.
My post described how blunt damage would generally do more raw swing damage than say a sword, but if they are all restricted to X damage then obviously all they do X damage.
Sorry, I have must thought no way could be asking such a stupid question as do 9 damage weapons e.g do 9 damage, and thought there was actually a real question somewhere in his post.
If you get attacked by a melee weapon in pvp, and you do not know what the damage stat is on the weapon anyone with the slightest bit of experiance knows that a hammer is going to knock large chunks off their hp than a sword will, but faced with a sword your going to face all sorts of nasty effects, and with arrows youll know theyre going to hurt fairly well, as well as also inflict some kind of extras on you.
Its safe to say that based on pure weapon type alone and no skills, you would be most concerned with the hammer and its blunt damge.
Assuming of course each weapon is not capped at the exact same damage level, in which case IMO a hammer weilder would have a distinct disadvantage after you consider the effects that can be administered.
However thats all irrelevent to the initial question I think.
lol

Hes not asking bows vs swords vs hammers, etc. Hes asking what type does the most damage. Here's an example: Piercing axes do piercing damage.
They all do the same damage, ignoring any +armor vs slashing/blunt/piercing found on mesmer armors and shields.
