Monks vs. Doppleganger
I have a monk/mesmer, who i think i'm a pretty good healer with. But that's all I do. Pure healing, nothing else. People like me (I would guess) would have a pretty hard time defeating this guy. Anyways, I had heard what you needed to do so I thought "No sweat, Ill take interrupt skills, drain his energy, and bring two attacking spells. If I can keep him from interrupting me, I'll be fine." WEll, I haven't upgraded my stuff since Lion's Arch. . . and insteaded of my 4-7 dmg smiting rod that I thought he would have, the doppleganger has a bow that can kill me in four hits. Now I'm thinking of doing another strategy that someone told me: Smite, heal, smite, heal. Any thoughts?

What if you cast Breeze of Life (Breath of life, whatever it is called) first, use Conjure phantom on him and then use Holy Wrath or Balthazar's Aura, if you have it? But from what I've seen smites take him down pretty fast.

Don't forget about your secondary! Mesmer is one of the easier classes to beat him with. Give him a bunch of wimpy, spammable spells to use, and slap backfire on him at the start of the fight. He'll quickly kill himself and you'll easily get the bonus.
As far as the heal, smite, heal, smite business, what prevents him from doing the same to you? I believe he can use any of the healing spells, except for healing breeze, which isn't very useful anyway.
[edit] For this to work well, you may need to respec and max out in Domination. Don't be afraid to change your attributes around a bit, though, because the 50k exp after the fight brings your refund points back to max [/edit]

When I fought with my monk primary, I just stacked smite skills and nothing else. Balthazar's aura, bane signet, smite, banish...you get the idea

Ok. . . I tried a couple ways and then just brought holy wrath, bane signet, symbol of wrath, and banish. I put on holy wrath before entering. As soon as it started I cast banish, then ran up to him and cast symbol of wrath. I waited a second, then cast banish again. He ended up killing himself. I wouldn't reccomend this tactic, cause I ended with one hp.

Mesmer would have worked better, Backfire and Empathy, then just load up with silly enchantments that wont give him too much bonus, like Life attunement (actually makes him worse) and Divine Spirit. He'll spam heal himself to death.

Also, bring divine boon as your self heal, since it's an enchant, he'll only cast it once, but you can spam it over and over to keep getting a cheap 5 HP heal.

Beating your monk is easy. Most monks never learn to smite. It's a shame. You should learn to use these smite spell before the mirror. Anyway, this is how you can beat your mirror in 35 second flat:
The Mirror Build
Attributes
11 +1 Divine Favor.
10 +1 Smite
8 +1 Healing
Skills
Breeze (Mirror doesn't use Breeze)
Bane Signet (smite spell uses no energy)
Balthazar's Spirit (give you energy when attacked)
Divine Boon (adds to heal)
Retribution (33% return dmg when attacked)
Weapons
Rod or Staff (Divine Favor or Smite) 10 to 21 dmg. OR something in that range.
Lots of points into smite. Divine Boon, Balthazar, and Retribution are all Enchantments. Put them on before you go into battle. Skip the cut scene. Boon and Breeze keep you alive. Balthazar's give you plenty of energy. Retribution and Band kill him.
Use Breeze as necessary.
Unrelated Thoughts
On another note, learn some protection/general spells like mend and purge condition, remove and smite hex. In the later missions you can't out heal those Musarat buffs. The bufs are what kills not not melee hits. Simply remove the hexes and conditions to make you healing much easier.
I'm always suprised that no monks bring mend condition in Hell's Precipace thinking they can out heal immolation. Don't think of yourself as a heal bot. There are many ways to keep your group alive. Never box yourself into one build you won't do your character any justice that way.

On my mo/me i used healing breeze empathy and shatter hex and some random useless illusion ones.
I didn't take backfire because he kept using it on me.
All you do is use empathy on him, go near him and when he hexes you, shatter. If you have about 10 domination that does 100 damage. Also when you are not hexed, just dodge his ranger arrows and empathy will kill him very quickly.

I used a 10-19 Dmg holy rod, Reversal of Fortune, Divine boon, and 6 capture signets.
While I didn't get the bonus, I did kill him on my first try.

I frontloaded Infuse Health, and a bunch of other long casting, useless monk skills, then back loaded Empathy, Backfire, and Mending. Used Mending before the cut scene and dropped Backfire on entering. Then I ran behind the wall and used Empathy and he killed himself.

I dont think you even need all those spells.
All I brought in with me was Healing Breeze & Bane Signet.
Attack with your wand / staff / weapon while bane signet is recharing. Use Healing breeze at all times.
Use Bane Signet when you can.
I had a really easy time beating Doppelganger with this. =)

I had this problem today, did all three trials and got killed every time i did my mirror.
I realised i kept losing since he kept healing... So i equiped these things:
Scouge Heal
Bal Aura
Banish
Zealots Flame
Healing Boon
(place ur smiting temporary at 10, i did at 10 anyway)
Before you enter, cast Zealots Flame
Skip Animation
Cast Scouge Healing (every time he heals he gets dmged for 50ish)
Go straight up to him.
Cast Balaz Aura
Banish
Then spam Divine Boon (gives you health and does fire dmg with zealots)
So i did that, and killed him almost straight away.

Drop Healing.
Dump into:
Smite (8-10)
Devine Favor (8-10)
Protection (Whatever's left)
Skills to Take:
Zealot's Fire
Retribution
Guardian
Blessed Signet (nice as a backup) *obtained from doing a quest at the Temple of Ages.*
Go in, watch or skip the cutscene (doesn't matter).
When the fight starts, Throw on retribution, zealot's fire, and then go stand next to the doppelganger. Then just spam Guardian and watch him drop.
40ish second completion time, and no chance of dying. Easily obtaining the bonus.

Mes/x or X/mes is very ezy, just take shatter hex and a lot of hexes like spirit schackles or other wimpy hexes... You just let him cast them, you cast none, go in close and shatter hex every 10sec or so... Gets him down ezy...
