Energy Storage vs Soul Reaping
So I'm bringing my Necro alt through Maguuma and I realized something while fighting about a dozen mobs at once (I hate those spider ambushes). Soul Reaping is really good. On paper, it actually looks better than Energy Storage.
Let's look at the math:
Energy Storage - +3 energy per point
Soul Reaping - +1 energy per death per point
Going by this, it seems that, in any given battle, if more than 3 things die, Soul Reaping provides more of an advantage than Energy Storage. Plus, you'll have less downtime. The only advantage of Energy Storage would be in battles where less than 3 things die (this almost never happens, except against lone bosses) or if you burn through mana so quickly that you'll be out before 3 things die.
Since I don't have much experience with Energy Storage, I'm wondering whether my theorycraft is valid, or not. Is Soul Reaping better than Energy Storage?

What you also must realize is that the necro's max energy isn't enough to dish out 3+ spells without enemies dying, leaving their spell casting a little slow.

Which attribute do you specialize in as a Necromancer? (-Death,Blood,Curses-) Death would work best with Soul Reaping, since your minions have health degeneration. Maybe it works for diffrent situations. Lets say a E/Ne were a Pyromancer/Blood mage. The Pyromancer's AoE can slowly degenerate health, and adding other spells such as Life Siphon etc, to help degenerate health even further, might work well with using the Energy Storage since Pyromancer's spells take alot of energy. If a Ne/E were a Curser/Geomancer, weakening foes and strengthening allies, the Soul Reaping might come in handy there. Though, thats just how I think of it.

In pve i agree with soul reaping. However in pvp its practically useless compared to storage. Theres maybe 1 death every 30 sec.

You're theorycrafting is off since you have to remember ES is frontloaded whereas SR is backloaded AND requires a condition to be met. Also, ES comes with the godly Ether Renewal and the sub-par but decent once in a blue Ether Prodigy.

This is mostly true. If you can geat a minion force up and running, Soul Reaping can be awesome in PvP. Granted, this is usually just for one fight in the 6 way battles, but it can still be useful.
However, the vast majority of the time, Energy Storage is much better in PvP.

if your team is built to put out tons of damage, a necro prime isnt so useless.
Every caster becomes semi useless when somethings denying them of energy, however, a necro usually doesnt.
