Actually the best thing that I've found to do is chase them around in the opposite direction. All the arenas are sort of circular. you can usually cut someone off pretty easily if there are 2 of you.

I'm a W/R and i always take 2 different swords and 2 different bows into combat arenas with me i don't play PvP very often but i start off in a high place with a bow and as enemies approach i may go to a fire dmg sword or a max dmg galdius and if they start to run i'll pull out one of my bows and hit frenzy and hit them with that it usually does the trick on dang necros and monks

Right on...
I discovered this "secret" last week, I felt like an idiot for not thinking of it before. I'm a War/Ele focusing on water magic, and I happened to loot a really good water wand one day. I was about to salvage it when I noticed that I had the water magic skills to use it, so I decided to pair it with my frost artifact in weapon slot 3. It has proved to be very useful to have that ranged attack, and the damage is not bad. Often I'll find that I've just finished killing something with my sword, and my party members will be a good distance away working on a MOB with maybe a quarter health. I find it to be much more effective to switch to the wand to help them kill it than take the time to sprint over there. I also use it when it appears that it will take me a while to run to a MOB when it is on a cliff or a lower level. Better to help the team snipe it that to run to it only to find it's already almost dead.

If your a W/Mo and you need to resort to using a bow, you need help.
Take Signet of Judgement or Banish / Bane signet, much better.

You'd be surprised how well bringing a spare bow/staff/wand works. I carry a high-damage wand on my Me/W, and it works wonders.
Then again, this is when I'm out of mana. I switch out Sprint for Imagined Burden for PvP. With that, you're not the only one able to hit him.

I hope you all are kidding.. if I was in the arena and I saw a warrior pull out a bow and attack me as I ran away, I'd probably dedicate every second of that match to making sure he died. So, I guess, in an indirect way, yes, using a Bow is good if you want to enrage the enemy team so they'll ignore more important targets.
In fact, seeing a W/R period in the arena is comforting, because I know that we're only facing 3 1/2 people... because a Warrior/Ranger is only half a warrior or half a ranger. I know that they will be a lot easier to take down than a W/Mo, because they won't have any serious/annoying healing.
I can handle R/W because of the Expertise and stuff... but W/R is a mistake in PvP.
As for a W/E pulling out a bow AND/OR using Flare to hit me at range... I dunno if I'd be able to contain myself. I'd probably add them to my friend's list and pester them for days.
Would you expect a R/Mo to suddenly pull out a sword because you were attacking him close up? No, because that would be ridiculous.

I play a Me/E and i must say i love when you warriors chase me with sprint. Theres a lil spell i like to call Whirlwind. Attacking enimies go down real quiet like. Maybe even gale that knocks you down long. Now if u do pull out a bow and decide to attack me with that I honestly hope you can do more than 2 damage. The best tatic for a flee(er) is to trap him with people cut off his route of escape and if he does manage to get away camp the corpses of the fallen. If he cant res anything dont worry about it. you can always trap him later. The ones who run love itwhen you warriors chase us. It takes you away from the real battle keeping our monks and other casters safe. So in conclusion chasing=bad. If you can get him down then your gonna need to have one of your E or R go after him. Dont sacrifice one of your tanks!

Ok i didnt see it so ill say it, the bow thing is stupid btw.
Anyway... the guys running... uh... its pretty much the end...hmm.... GALE!
3 second knockdown and if you have sprint just in case or the other warriros do, just spam cast it and a war could do it twice and thats 6 seconds, a full team of 4 could drop one guy in 6 seconds while hes laying there... i just figured knock him on his ass, or water trident is good but the 3 second appeals me more, and since its the end the exhasustion wont b that bad.

You heard the man. however, i think the flare tactic works fine (i posted it ) and he didn't solve our problem. However, he did not solve our problem but narrowed down what we shouldn't do (and did a good job )
So here is my (revised) opinion on what you should do
Warrior: Sprint.
Necro: Life Siphon, Deathly Glare, Deathly Swarm, all the good stuff
Ranger: Bow. DuH! (and maybe cripple)
Mesmer: Damage Over Time enchantments
Monk: Ranged Holy attacks
Elem: Spells (any ranged would do fine)

As a W/Me my bow damage is pretty pathetic. Never thought about using a wand though... most of the time I just use my bow to pull.

Used to use a bow when I first started. Seemed like a good idea in PvE to lure enemies but the 1-2 damage in PvP against level 20s... um, useless. I always bring in Rush since it lasts longer than Sprint (for me anyway), along with Bull's Strike (or whatever its called). Knock them down, Final Thurst for the kill... or if they're a monk trying for a last ditch heal effort, Savage Slash.
Or, secondary Necro and bring in Life Siphon. That or sacrifice your elite for Life Transfer.

Wow, old post still breathing, and with idiots I see...
First off, I did NOT SAY FIGHT THE WHOLE FIGHT WITH THE BOW!!!
God jeez...
There's one enemy left on the field and he's hurting. [aka very very low on hp] BUT STILL MANAGING to run!!!!
You're going to tell me that the piddly 7-10 dmg your wand/bow will do isn't worth killing him?
Hmm... ok... Just checking...
You should try it if you end up in an all warrior team where you almost kill the guy and just not quite... Then we'll see what you can do without spells...
For me, too many times occured where the enemy's bleed/poisoning just stopped short of killing him and the bastard just kept running. [this is the madness of competition random arena which I still like despite the hate of it] Nobody on my team bothers to finish the guy off though he's running like crazy and warrior's only cripple is melee. This is a R/Me I'm talking about and if everybody at once yanked out their most damaging no req. range weapon. [for me, it's a 10 curses staff that adds 20hp, go fig. though I'm part necro with 10 curses it's fine] Any R/Me who knows how to stay alive from warrior's brings energy stealing + Illusion of Haste. Can't catch what you can't cripple right?
Let's seriously see what a warrior without damaging distance spells can do... [go ahead and scratch your butt for all I care ;p]

Half the time as a warrior, your going to have enough strength to use sprint well enough at least in the 10-12 second duration. The fact that sprint is the best running skill bar none because of it's ridiculous recharge rate makes it easy to get the last person. If your saying that 4 warriors can't catch a ranger because of something as stupid as stormchaser, then your not even going to make it to Arrange Team in the first place.

Or you could just bring sprint and continually hit them for criticals as they run =\.

Ok, what the original poster was saying is that, you are to use the bow to finish off an enemy. Not fight the entire round as a hybrid W/R. That would be... dumb.
I lived thru this scenario actually the other day.
I was fooling around in the Shiverpeak arenas. For some reason people love to brag about this place, and people that compete there think they are PvP gods. So, I thought I would try it out. It is to warrior heavy for my liking. Warriors do not have the advantage like they do in Shiverpeaks in the later arenas like ToPK or GvG. Damage output by casters outweighs the protection of shiny armor.
Story:
Here is what happened. Both teams were dead except for our 1 warrior and their 1 ranger. Both had used their res-signets. The ranger was content on just running around and around and around. Ranger had StormChaser, warrior could not catch him. After about 6 minutes the warrior got bored, swore a lot then left the game. We lost that round.
Using pin-down, or anything would of ended that round in our favor.
I will let you in on a little tactic I like to do as my mesmer. I love it when a warrior chases me. I will run a couple of steps then when the warrior sprints to catch me I turn around and cast ethreal burden. Slows him to 50% for 10 seconds. Then I just prance about the arena in my little mesmer boots and cast conjure phatasm, when the warrior is about ready to get over ethreal burden, I throw on empathy, then a little chaos storm. Warriors love to stand in my chaos storm. He will try to use his healing signet most likely which I will interupt with cry of frustration then I will gleefully wand him to death. Followed by a little river dance on his corpse.
Any kind of damage you can do is better than none. If a warrior had a bow with pin-down, distracting shot. The outcome might be different.
Instead of being "OMGWTF n00bZOR I WOULD PWN" a warrior with a bow, understand that a bow is a back up weapons for certain situations. The warrior is by no means using a bow only, it is his back up because he was in the boyscouts, and is always prepared. I think that is there motto?
Another tidbit, a longbow has the longest range of any weapon.

Another "little known warrior secret" I'm surprised I don't see people passing around (and fewer yet using because it's so obvious):
Sprint makes you move faster. Not run faster. With For Great Justice and Sprint you attack faster, for more adrenaline. You shouldn't need to chase a n00b that thinks his best chance is running from a warrior who no doubt has a running skill to catch up, you should obliterate him before he has the chance to turn around. If you max out axe skills and get cyclone axe working, you can spin after him as he just turns to run and finish him off. You should hit for 30-60, then you can ask one of the rangers on the team to take the rest of him out if he manages to survive. Warriors aren't meant to chase someone across the map just to add a notch to their kills on the wall, you should be laying the heat on the other team.
That's why rangers are a support class most of the time, they're there to finish off a retreating enemy - or soften them up before the warriors reach them.
This is a TEAM GAME, you're not the only people in the world WARRIORS!

...Um, the speed buffs (Sprint, Storm Chaser, Windborne Speed, etc.) all say 'Move' faster not 'Run' faster, and none of them increase your attack speed. Sorry.

Yes they are the only people in the world. Havent you learned that yet? This game is all about warriors, the other characters are just here to keep the warriors company. I thought it taught you that once you bought the game? LOL
Again this bow idea is simply a "What if/In case of", type of thing. This doesn't happen often, but if it does why not be prepared? Is it really going to harm your character that much if you take up 1 of your 4 weapon slots for a bow?
Please do not refer to rangers as a support class. They are definately not a support class. Play as a ranger and you will see. The only support class I know of is a Healer monk.
