Monk wont be using ether renewal. Ether renewal is fairly pointless to run as a lone enchantment as well. The attunments are pretty much a given, unless shatter enchantment is a greater concern. Besides the conjure lines the only other enchantement is aura of restoration. So it would be strange to suggest ether renewal, but then state that the caster wouldnt be cramped in spell choices following it.

As i stated earlier, aura of restoration takes the sting out of things like backfire. Against focused fire only monk healing and protection spells matter and incidental damage is always a consideration, but the source can be countered in other ways depending on the type. For a caster type like an ele, where the majority of it is based on offensive targeted spells, even incidental damage will add up over time and the act of casting will prevent the healing cycle. As an alterntative the ele could choose not to cast, but then that is tantemount to a backfire spell being a indirect prevention measure taking the caster out of the fight, making not bringing it just as pointless.

In the end it just comes down to playstyle and team synergy.
