Differences between pets.
Does anyone know how exactly different ranger pets differ from each other? I see guides for the difference in range weapons, which is great, but no guide for the difference among pets. If anyone knows anything, please help out
So far, all I know is that bears use a skill called brutal mauling, which is why many people want them. In terms of my personal observations in the game, the stalker seems to attack relatively slowly. Warthogs appear to be very durable, as I saw a level 7 warthog tank 4 charr axe warriors, and kill one of them, during a cut scene. After the scene was done he had hardly taken any damage and was still fighting them. Never have had a wolf, bird, spider, lizard, or lynx.
Help?

There is little significant difference between the pet types. Pets have the same base hitpoints and armor at any given level, i.e. a level 10 bear = level 10 moa bird. The main difference is in teh type of damage dealt (blunt, slashing, piercing).
There are some who feel that a dire spider pet from later in the game might be capable of dealing about 10% more damage than a regular animal, but I don't feel that the tests were rigorous enough to say for certain that this is the case.

I did not think it was possible to charm a bear. Has anyone actually done it? Same thing w/ the spiders.

Black Bear = Southern Shiverpeaks
Spider = Underworld
The good news with the spider is...its L20 when you charm it The bad news is with the bear (oh what a bad bun) is it starts at L5.

OK, so if all the pets have the same attack damage and armor what are thier differences?
I would have guessed that bears have a slower rate, but what is thier advantage?
Long story short, my Stalker is level 16 now and I am where I can get to bears and such, so should I change pets?
I kind of want a bear, but if my stalker is just as good........... so confusing.

They all have the same damage, going off the prima guide. Just the type of damage (slashing, blunt, piercing) differs per pet.
You'll have to search for the post, but it's out there somewhere, with a scanned page from the guide for pets.

I got a bear by narrowly surrviving Lornar's Pass up to the first set of Wurms. It was a combination of luck, speed, and timeing. But my buddy Baloo is lvl20 now, and he rocks.

wow a lot of people seem interested in pet lately, kinda makes me happy... although this is ganna lead to some noob beastmasters.
But yes the pets are the same save the type of damage they do. And the spider from the underworld does random poison.

Okay, we should group. I've got Bagheera. All we need is a lvl 20 Lynx and he can be Shere Khan. =D

The spider DOES deal more damage than other pets. Check out the official guide for yourself, the Spider does higher damage than other pets.
Also, check this out:

No it doesn't. I have the spider and that is 100% completely false.

The Guide compares the Spider at level 20 to the other pets at level 5. That may have skewed the damage values. Then again, it may not have. Testing's the only way to find out.

the spider gets higher crits therefore throwing the average. Some say the birds have a higher chance of getting crits plus a higher attack speed. but yeah nothing official really just tests people run. Unless Arena net says something i'm just going to consider all the pets the same.
And i have no idea about the spider... i don't want one they are ugly as heck, i just hear people saying the cause random poisin and armor penetration?

Check the link. The Moa has a higher Critical hit rate, but a lower max damage (giving it a tighter attack range). It does not have a higher attack rate, that's simply cosmetic.
I'm not sure if the spider has armor penetration, but I know for a fact there is no poison. The spider does do slightly more damage.

Yes, but check the link. The guide shows that the Spider has a 17-29 DMG range. From the tests run, it seems the other pets have a 15-28 Ranger.
