Whatsmore there are more interesting targets to enchantment remove @. Enchantment removal due to its nature of scarcity is seen as a more offensive than defensive manoveure.....

In the random arena, you may get lucky banking on the fact that your opponents are not carrying any enchantment removals. In organized PvP, its going to get stripped faster than a groupie backstage at a Motley Crue concert.
Which is why, as was said, you need cover buffs. Believe me, there is nothing so satisfying to myself and others as watching a silly mesmer with a sword hit someone for 2 HP a shot because their IW is gone.
If you're going to play a Mesmer in PvP, there are better elites to have in your build, ones that will actually allow you to fulfill the roles Mesmers are suited for, not some gimpy caster armored warrior that makes you feel uber.

You can build well around IW in an 8v8 build. A single IW mez is annoying, but if you get 4 of them together it is a solid maintainable spike.

IW is a fun arena build, where you rarely see any enchantment removal. If you do see some, though, you're probably going to get hit hard.
I wouldn't touch IW in tombs. You're going to run into Nature's Renewal every other match, and basing your strategy on keeping enchantments up is particularly foolish.
Peace,

Natures Renewal gets spammed ALL OVER THE PLACE in 8 on 8.
Requiring your build to maintain multiple enchantments in order to be effective is just asking for trouble.

if you couple it with interupts so that enchantment removal spells are nerfed it works fine. i would be wary about using it as a mesmer primary without the armor and absorbtion of a warrior you're not going to last long at melee range not to mention the fact that mesmers are always the second target, after the monks, of any well organized group. some in fact just target mesmers first. rend enchantments will mess you up bad unless you can muster a half dozen cover enchantments as well. still if you've played this game for any length of time you know there's a counter for EVRYTHING so unless they know from the start you'll be using it it seems highly unlikely that you'll run into someone who is not only built to counter it but also actually does so.

Your sir, have just made my day.
I agree with IW builds only really being viable in the arenas. TBA, there they can rock.

not only can u hide it with other enhancements, u can have arcane echo for a recast if it gets stripped or if it runs out and u need to use it again, definetely not a shabby choice if u know wat ur doing ESPECIALLY if u realised how well flurry stacks with it
... but i still prefer my fragility W/Me way more

Cover enchants are indeed plentiful. I still maintain that if they're serious about stripping you of your IW or go anti-enchant completely and put up something like Nature's Renewal, rend or lingering curse...you're screwed no matter what. Your cover will only stop the odd mesmer taking advantage of you with something like a drain...and even then he's gotten what he wanted.
If you're in this for the damage...look elsewhere. If you're adamant you need/want a cover for this, take Illusion of Weakness. If you're running 2 prot monks and only 1 heal then maybe you can take your chances with no cover depending on the specific builds you're using. Sure you can take Arcane Echo to recast the thing...but a useful PvP I-Weaponeer should be doing a lot more than just hacking at someone, energy may be an issue here. If you're not really relying on IW to float your boat...have fun.
BTW. Why have you chosen W over R and Me/E for a fragility build?

Covering enchantments sounds like a great idea until you get hit by Desecrate enchantments. Causing large damage to you.
With that said covering IW with other enchantments is your only option. I myself ru na necro who just destroys any IW build generally, due to strip enchantment. And based on the reuse times etc.
As well as IW always have a contingency plan. Unless as said aboive you intend on going the route of arcane echo / IW / covering enchantments, making sure IW will be safe and ready to use. Other wise you'll want a back up plan for when it all falls apart like wet toilet paper.

I am, by no means, an expert at Guild Wars yet, but I have been getting heavy into pvp (I'm addicted) and I know one thing - Playing a necro as I do, I see an IW mesmer and it makes my day. Free kill for me. So far I've made a character with each class to see what they can do, and I'll tell you this: Mesmers have massive potential, but I don't feel it's truly realized through the IW build. It's too easily stripped, and to be honest, I'd take a war/ele using conjure anyday. If he's stripped, he's still pumping out reasonable damage and doing what warriors do. Mesmers are too valuable to waste on what I feel are wannabe warrior builds. But I ain't hating, just stating what I think.

well, one of my chars is an IW mesmer (Me/R), and it seems to work fine in PvP. ya, i have more difficulites in tombs against teams that are organized, but i must say that IW mesmers arent completely useless if their IW is removed. when and if my enchantment is removed (very rarely), i can still use my conjure phantasm for damage, and imagined burden, frozen soil, and healing spring for team support. so anyways, just saying that depending on ur build, IW mesmers can be affective even if their enchantment gets shattered

It's pretty funny when I'm screwing around with my mes in arena to see IW being casted. One Shatter E on that guy every time he does it renders him really really useless.
Like ensign said, IW is a fun strat but not effective; vs the natures renewal spam in tombs or vs a good team that will null it fast you're going to be an empty character unless you really aren't basing much of your setup on IW in the first place which is rather silly.
