Heal Spam!? my god its annoying!
Ok im a level 9 N/R ( a bad choice I think, damage just isnt anything...i can send out about 20 damage a second with all my bow buffs not including Life Siphon ) I just cant kill things whern they decide to spam heal.
You get an enemy near death and its "healing Orison" "healing Orison" "healing Orison" "healing Orison" "healing Orison" "healing Orison" and you CANT kill them.....now you will say "play with a team" but from what ive seen most people ar eonly interested in spamming their wares, or what they want, and if you DO team up theres the item grabbing competition to deal with, doesnt matter if they need the item or not. ( This is going off topic but I dont know where else to put it. )
Which brings me round again to the fact that you CANT have a well rounded character, you HAVE to focus strongly in maybe 3 areas only if you want to be able to do anything. Im very dissapointed in this game. it takes the "best" bits from other games mixes them up and comes out with a total less than the sum of its parts....

The design of the game is such that healing is more powerful than damage. Healing must be designed this way as to make healing viable.
Try disrupting or reducing his healing abilities rather than trying to brute-force the enemy and you'll have better luck.

what are you talking about? each item that drops is assigned to a particular player - if you haven't noticed that yet - so noone else can grab your loot no matter how slow you are in picking it. The loot auto-share system really is awesome in GW.
If you are looking for a team for a particular quest, just go to that quest's starting area and advertise that you're looking for a group or join one of the groups being formed. I would strongly suggest determining your role in any group first though, because right now it sounds like you're confused about what to do with your character.

well, yes, and that's what allows everyone to customize their character to their playing style and their group! Don't you think it would be horribly boring if EVERY character would be able to dish out huge damage + have high armor level + heal everyone + distract casters etc?
Since you only can have 8 skills on your skillbar, you HAVE to have a strategy, you HAVE to know how your skills work together, and you have to find an effective combo. You have to pick a few areas and concentrate on those. My pyromancer can burninate everything to ground with 14 in fire, but she'd kinda suck if I was trying to split my points between various elements.
Reading character builds more experienced players have posted in forums can help with it ... Just because you don't understand yet how the game works doesn't mean it's bad

N and R are not meant to be damage dealers.
They are both support characters. Of course you can turn your char into an damage dealer, but an Ele would outdamage you most of the time.
You have to rethink your strategy. As a N you can stack health degen on the enemy and as a ranger you can interrupt his heals. There are many different possibilities...

Try harder or find a guild. PuG can be frustrating, but eventually you will end up with a few guys on your friends list and that will make life easier.
GW is not meant to be played alone. So you are supposed to have a very tough time...

focusing on 3 things is maximum. Better to be focused on 2
It is a team game. You may focus on soften the target and interrupting it, so a damage dealer can easily kill it.
But you can't soften it, interrupt it, kill it and at the same time holding the other enemies at distance.
It is a team game.

Have you never met a damage dealing necro? Dark Aura, Touch of Agony, Dark Pact, 16 blood magic, 15 death magic. Each Touch of Agony is 110 damage with no armour modification for 5 energy; Each Dark Pact is 100 damage with no armour. Touch of Agony has a 3 second cycle and casts in .75 seconds; Dark pact takes 1 second to cast with a 2 second recycle. Add in a Vampiric touch and gaze to keep health up, and you can chain them out with the .75 second after casts so that you deal 661 damage to a target in 9 seconds (73 DPS), also dumping out 200 damage in the area around you, all of which ignores armour.
Against heavily armoured foes my blood necromancer does a large percentage of the damage, punching through armour with no reductions, and dumping the damage in fast.

I'm confused. Touch of Agony does 110(with Dark Aura) in 1.5 seconds, 73 dps. Dark Pact(also with Dark Aura) is 100 in 1.75 seconds, 57 dps. Vampiric Touch is 77 in 1.5 seconds, 51 dps. Gaze is 63 in 1.75 seconds, 36 dps.
The only way to acheive 73 dps is if you Echo'd Touch of Agony or used quickening Zephyr and just spammed it constantly. This is a fairly large amount of damage for the time/mana except for the fact that your also doing 70 damage to yourself per cast. Alternating between Touch of Agony and Vampiric Touch and Gaze seems like the best way to chain this. About 57 DPS total.
You have to wonder if going Ele primary and using Etheral Renewal could be a large help.

1:Its "Orison of Healing"
2:GUILDwars=Being part of a GUILD means your part of a team, which means your going to have to work together to win.
3:Thats what makes GuildWars unique, in other games its ALWAYS about kill this kill that and wait, don't forget to kill that.

Hmm, I may have missed a .75 casting delay. Let's see, 6 spells, right, so 5 casting delays (since the damage happens before the last casting delay) is 5*.75 seconds. The add the casting times; 3*1 second, 3*.75 seconds. That's 3+8*0.75 seconds, or 9 seconds. Damage dealt to a single touch range target is 110*2+100*2+77+63=560 Ah, I was off on total damage - it's 560, not 660. Only 62.22 damage per second.
Still plenty of damage, with 200 in an area around you, delivered pretty rapidly - will it kill you? it might, but if you can take out a guy and enable your team to take out a few more it can be worth it. Has next to no place in PvE, and is only useful in specific builds in PvP, but with the right setup you can dump a lot of damage out fast. The point is that Necros can do damage, not an argument about the merits of sacrificial builds.

This poster's problem is obvious... he's level 9. I understand your frustration in learning the way Guild Wars is played but the intention of the creators was to allow one to do anything with their character EXCEPT create a 'well rounded' character. The beauty of Guild Wars is that in one pick up group of 4 Rangers you can have 4 different and specialized Rangers, the same goes for Warriors and Elementalists.
I personally believe that all first time players should start with a Warrior because it allows you to do what most new people want to do more than anything... kill stuff. Once you hit Lion's Arch with that character and you've began to learn the ins and outs of the game you can then start up that Necro or Mesmer. At that point you've learned the value of a good Blood/Death Necro or Domination/Illusion Mesmer or Poison/Trap Ranger and you can really start to experience the game on a higher level.
As people have said, Guild Wars is about the teamplay and you just basically need to learn your role. You've selected a primary and secondary profession that would be placed in the category of "support." This means that you simply aren't going to be a damaging beast but you have a great niche to fill. N/Rs can play awesome light area damage/support with Putrid Explosion and Well of Blood mixed with some of the Ranger's great interrupts.
I realise that at first glance you may think the game is flawed in it's approach but the more you play the more you will realize just how exacting it's approach actually is so that by the time you're in PUGs with 6 or 8 people you'll be an indespensible addition to any group! Like The Rock said... "Know your Role and shut your mouth!"

Wow, Owen hit the nail on the head. I agree with the whole ''start a warrior as your 1st character'' aspect. That way you won't feel so cheated if you just want to get up in a baddies face. This game has bounds of things that you haven't any clue about. So, try not to be so judging at lvl 9. Another really cool thing that you may or may not know about is the attribute refund points that you can use. True you can really only effectively use around 3 attributes at any given time, but you have the ability to ''respec'' your character with refunds earned every 250 xp. Oh and another thing...people are taking the time to give you good advice, don't shun that. At this point in the game, you really don't have alot of knowledge on how it works.
PS- Yes, to get good skills you might just have to earn them...lol

Correct, but after a few minutes(?) it goes white for everybody to pick up (its grey when assigned to anyone but you).
Also after a mission you get the items you did not pick up (that is if nobody picked them up).
Also: "I dont have the skills so you did not help me"-attitude is just dumb. Sooner or later you will have those skills & you can keep a lookout for when a boss uses a skill you need (althought necro & rangers got several non-elite skills which can kill/shutdown a monk).

Yes, target other ally cannot be cast on yourself (for example blood ritual is target other ally).

He has no expertise, its gonna cost him 10 energy per shot which is unacceptable for a necro, and without something like Echo and Serpent's Quickness combo he can't do it very fast even if on the off chance he wanted to.
