The best hilts are Zealous, Vampiric, and the elemental ones.
The best pommels are +5 defense and potentially 'of enchanting', depending on your build. The various monster-slaying upgrades are potentially useful in the right PvE areas.

A few swords like that do exist from the old Arid Sea days - they're bugged items that can no longer be found. I would guess that the vast majority of those weapons are customized, and if you did find one for sale I can only guess at the price.

Actually, there are +7 defence pommels. Atleast, thats what you can unlock with the priest of balthazar. I always thought 5 was max

Sundering hilts arn't a real fan with me. They seem popular but I have no exact reason why... 10% chance of doing 10% armor piercing = a grand total of 1% overall damage... Vampiric sword hilt only goes up to 1/1 I think, I could be wrong and be thinking of some other items, but if it is 1/1, that's out of the question. Zealous swords hilts arn't bad if you combine it with fast-attacking stances such as flurry/frenzy. Elementals are probably the hilts i would stick with on melee weapons, I use earth on my axe, and I'd suggest earth on sword too.

5 Armor is the max on a sword pommel of defense. You're thinking of warding/shelter that will give you +7 armor against elements/physical respectively.
Edit: Also, for the dude above me. 3/1 is max for vampiric hilts.

Hmm there goes my dream of finding a +15% damage unconditional, no penalty weapon. Don't mean to question you, because I'm sure you're right, but how do you know they are no longer available?

dead on i can't imagine why you would waste an upgrade on this considering if you really need armor piercing for something you could easily sqitch to mesmer secodary and get some through skills. add that to the fact that changing a weapon to elemental dmg means less armor anyway and it looks even worse.

vampiric sword hilts go to at least 2/1 because i have one and have read from several reputable sources that it goes to 5/1 just like vampiric bow srings. the health gain does of course assume you can hit your target which is not always easy so you might be better of without the health degen in some cases no mater what the rating on the upgrade.

If you use stances often, there is a collector in Snake Dance who trades max damage swords that comes with +15% damage while in stance. From that I would use the highest fortitude possible because it's always in effect and extra HP is always good. Depending on where you fight, get an elemental hilt. Personally, I prefer the 10% chance of double adreneline granted by Furious hilts.
Really, it depends on your build.

i agree, but i prefer elemental sword hilts. only because of my W/E build because i can use conjure spells, like conjure flame. conjure flame only works when your useing a wepon that deals fire damage. so if you have a firery sword, then you can deal a lot of extra damage, depending on how many point you put in fire. and because flurry doesnt decrease the damage from conjure, you can do loads of damage

You can still find weapons with +15% always, they just come paired with a drawback: -10 armor when attacking, -5 energy, -health/energy regen.
The +15% always weapons we're talking about are perfects without any drawback at all.
Peace,
-CxE

Actually I'm pretty sure I've seen in a a post an axe with +12% dmg, no drawbacks. It's one person who has like 5 or 6 weapons, I think the name starts with a b.
Here it is:

Oh, there are still weapons with +% damage with no drawback, certainly - you just will not see any new ones drop. All the ones that still exist are from the Arid Sea days, and are total collector items now.
Peace,
