Attack of the Horrible Spike Builds
I was in the areana today and met a couple of spikers that didn't seem to know how to deal damage.
I joined a group that had two, really great monks. The third was an Air Elementalist, I THINK.
Sure, we killed the first 5 groups all within 3 minutes, but when we get to the sixth, a group that had a ranger, a necro, a monk and a mesmer it took 9 minutes of intense fighting with everyone alive! I kept calling the Prot/healer on the other team but the Air Ele just kept trying to take out the Mesmer who wasn't even shutdown, but an Illoisionist. Finaly we took the monk and all other ?/mos around, then taking out the rest of the group.
Then we were matched against an Air Ele (Also one that didn't know what they were doing), a monk and two rangers. Can you guess the time? 18 minutes! We were determined to take out the monk first but decided that one of the rangers was weaker, so we killed her pretty easily. She was ressed within seconds, she kept running around in circles and casting Imagined Burden on me while the Prot/Smite/Healer monk and the Air/Smiter kept casting Balthazar's Aura on her.
We kept switching back and forth to the monk, the ele and the ranger (All of which kept casting the Aura on eachother)I kept singling the Air Ele "Spike her, knock her down" but she appearently didn't have the spell I was looking for.
I'm guessing she had little man, becuase she - I think- had 12 water, 12 air. Continually casting Ward Against Meele. So, after awhile we killed the monk, who was ressed, killed her again. By minute 13 i said "This is rediculous!" The monk stopped to type, in which time I knocked her down twice and pulled a good 380 damage on her. We then turned on the Air/Smiter, killed her, then one of the rangers who was mass tactics/Wilderness Survival (Lots of Block and Evade), then to the ranger who we had first killed, who logged off before we could kill her again.
I donnu, it just seems like a note worthy story ^^;

One Air Ele definately doesn't make a "spike build." A single air ele is generally simply an air ele, not a spiker.
And that is a kinda funny story... I love it when you can get people to stop and type and take them down while they're doing it. It always makes me want to go "doh!"

Well I don't type in battles - just use single ctrl msgs and the radar pings, target calls and etc...but sometimes when the things got really out of the order - like only 1 monk is left and all other 3 STOP attacking him for 10-13 secconds?

Smart air ele doesn't use exhaustion spells or knows how to time it so they only cast enough exhaustive spells so they remain within the natural exhaustive recycling.

well, air eles dont really work that well unless you have more than 1, since only one wont drop people fast enough.

I was in a team with Elementalists who used all 4 elements. I used Water, someone else used Earth, some other person used Fire, and the last Elementalist used Air. All 4 of us attacked the called target. Fire used they're AOE's, Earth kept the target in its place, I helped keep it in its place as Earth's spells recharged and recovered from exhaustion, Air helped deal damage. Though, you have to have people who know each other well enough to cooperate and trust each other. There were a bunch of "Spiker" Groups too, but each of them were defeated. (-Muahahahaha!-)

mmmm 1 air ele.. can be a spiker
since i dont really like any of the elites except for lightning surge.. i use it
lightning surge+light orb is a good 150-200 dmg.. then id use light strike and by that time surge is up again, knock again, light orb/chain light em.. and theyre dead..
sure, thats 20-30 mp exhaustion.. but you get a target down quick.. and with 108 mp.. thats only 1/3.. so you can do 2 more targets.. but.. theres always the case of healing so i bring shatter enchant.. etc..
IMO: air and earth are best for pvp.. thats my opinion.. why?
light surge knocks down, earthquake knocks down.. if a warr comes for you, ward against melee, earthquake, aftershock, obsidian flame.. then he'll have to think about what to do..
or...
light surge, light orb, obsidian flame.. which is 200-250 for sure
well anyway, its not really the ele's fault.. you usually dont do 18 minute battles... by then ur exhausted far too much.. and it really sucks >.>, but a good 10-20 dmg with wand never hurts until you get enuff energy for light strike

Lightning surge, Chain, Orb, Strike, [Arcane]Echoed Orbs/Strikes don't cut it in HoH. The whole point of casting surge and then chain is to do the most concentrated damage possible. If you're a single air ele, you might as well switch out that elite for mind shock or something else.

And who exactly can deal more damage quicker than an air ele?
