A good mesmer build for killing necromcers?

so any suggestions? what should my secondary profession be? Me/E, Me/N, Me/W, Me/Mo?, Me/R?

Hex breaker

Use hex breaker as a defencive measure, and you'll find 80-90% of a necros offensive capablity vanishes. Atleast against you it does. Intteruption is not the way to go against a Necromancer due to most spells they use have low cast times.

Even backfire wont stop certin skills usfulness like life transfer, a 1 time hit of 148 damage vs. a health regen of 8 and health degen of 8 vs an enemy. Some times i will cast this even while i've backfire on me.

Skills like diversion and energy denial will stop a Necromancer dead.

Go Me/Mo with scourge sacrifice. Then arcane conundrum and power block to stop his main skill tree for about 30 seconds.

I am a necro and those are the things I hate . Maelstorm too.

Maelstrom is a great skill for any caster, because, unlike meteor shower, water magic has snares, so throw a snare on a monk/necro e.t.c and then Maelstrom them. By the time theyve got out of the AoE of maelstrom theyre pretty beaten up, both health and energy wise.

Mesmers have many ways to stop a caster.

And necros are casters.

Interruption
Energy Denial
Shutdown Hexes, etc.

Necromancers alone can't stop hexes unless their secondary does.

Of course, you are assuming enemy monks don't save their necro in time.

I'd say Natures Renewal pretty much shuts down a necro. Most of the useful necro skills are either Enchantments or Hexes, so.. yeah. Along with prot monks, they're probably the ones who are most debilitated by NR. Scourge Sac can work depending on the skills they're using as well.

As far as the rest of the suggestions, aren't these just general caster shutdown skills? They'll work, but they're not specific to necros.

First I'd wonder why you're so concerned about killing necros.
If they're a real nuisance to you, find a way to shut them down- no need to kill them until you've taken out their other defenses, or disabled their offense.

I just don't understand why you view necros in particular as such a threat- or are you playing in the Arena? Single necros do pose a threat there, but in Tombs and GvG they're low on the priority totem pole.

not always. sometiimes groups go after necros becuase of their enchantment removal.

with natures renewal flying around at the moment or a good monk removing hexes on the necros team, it is pointless. if it was a dark aura, it is already gone from natures renewal and would be generally useless to take one skill that is based entirely on whether they run a dark aura build or any sacrificial skill.

When I see a spike team with a necro they are the first to die. Nothing like a spike team with corpse explode to really mess up a group fast.

If my team is sitting on a pile of bodies at the altar, I know who I'm gonna target first
I've seen several instances where strong teams sitting around dead bodies just get wiped out in less than 10 seconds.

We're having this conversation in another thread in Riverside.
If you are concerned about Soul Reaping + Putrid Explosion, the best that comes to mind on a mesmer is a combination of arcane conundrum and backfire, or power blocking another death spell.

Still I don't think that combination warrants a build dedicated to stopping it- the counter is obvious- run a primary necro of your own with Putrid (or Necrotic Traversal) if it has you that petrified.

I'm still curious why the OP is so interested in shutting down necros.
