Default Numbers in Strength

As some might remember, my latest project has been my warrior. Well, the question I find myself currently asking is just how effective is strength, and is it worth pumping up to 12? I'm constantly tweaking my character to help the team I'm with, but I find myself always keeping my strength at 12. Is this worth it? Does 12% armor penetration really shine above say 8-9%? Or is the difference really unnoticeable?

Most of the time you're better off going for extra points towards your secondary class atribute (assuming you have one). 12(weapon)/9(str)/9 or 12/10/8 is usually the way to go.

My Kd/aftershock warrior is 12hammer/3str/12 earth and it works great. most of the damage is comming from aftershock anyways, so str isnt an issue

Strength is the side-attribute that isn't required, but good to have in those 3 or 4 attribute points which you focus on. If you're an aftershock warrior, you can go with 8 strength or 3 strength depending on how much hammer/earth you want. The benefits from increasing AS is much more than enough to fix up the hole you lost from strength. Just think about it as fast casting for a mesmer. It's good to have since it helps all around, you won't die if you don't have it unless like 2 or 3 of your skills are based on it. I wouldn't recommend pumping it to 12 since thats what usually your main weapon attribute will be at. Anything from 3 to 10 is what I would aim for.

If you W/E you can get away with Ward Against Foes, and minimal Str invesment. If your some other W/? variant you probably want more than a couple points into str for sprint which allows you to keep up with people and continually crit them.

Strength is a line you take for certain skills, or just put a few points in.

So you put all those points on 5 different attributes, how do you do that? Because i can't get my 5 attributes that high.. unless it's a sup rune on the weapon?

The only time I would work with strength would probably be when I am using weaken armor or judge's insight with penetrating blow + cleave for fast dmg from warrior...

If you're using a lot of attack skills, then strength can add significant damage.

I've used a total 16 weapon/15 str build and the damage difference is major.

I usually leave it around 12 or so.

But some quick numbers.

Against 100 armor opponents, 15 penetration will add 30% more damage to your attack skills.

Against 70, it will add 20% damage.

60, it will add 17%.

That's quite a bit of damage if you're using attack skills often (which I'd imagine you'd be doing using a warrior :P).

Yeah it definitely adds a considerable amount of damage, and it's usually better to put more points into strength as opposed to adding a couple more points of damage to aftershock by going earth 11 => 12.
Not only that, but strength gives you sprint and bull's strike, and god knows you need a speed boost in these days of kiting warriors.

I don't like aftershock much. I usually do more damage just doing another hammer attack. Obviously it's not an aoe, but for single targets, I'd rather just have maxed hammer and strength.

...For aftershock to be good you have to actually put points into it. Oh yeah, and kding them first helps.../sarcasm
