Then it seems to me that you've misunderstood my meaning, or the capability of the N/Me as oppossed to a pure Mesmer. I'm thinking of dropping Poison, Disease, Weakness, and Deep Wound on the majority of the opposing team in a very short period of time and at a very low mana cost, then following up by adding additional damage created by other supporting spells. When the monk is spending all his efforts to keep his team, and himself, alive because of what I alone am doing, assuming that he's even capable of doing so, which in my experience very few if any monks are able to. While I won't argue with you that it is possible to make a similarly effective build using denial and counter, I feel that calling a N/Me a sub-par damage dealer is to seriously underestimate the capabilities of the class.

I could be wrong though, as I'm fairly new and haven't gotten a whole lot of seriously competitive play to test the effectiveness therein. But as far as I can see, a Death/Illusion character doesnt seem to be any less disrupting to the enemy team than a Domination-focused one.

When you're doing pve, just do all out domination until you can get virulence. Then, use virulence and fragility for some big numbers. For PVP, you'll want to look into the inspiration line. Nothing like interrupting a 25 energy spell, and then draining another 25 energy in the process! If you still want some good damage, try mixing illusion with soul barbs. I've used it in pvp before, and it worked fairly well since the necro's curse line has parasitic bond, which can be spammed for a quick 30 damage from soul barbs, or a future 120 health heal. If you bring it in PVP, you can be immortal against a team that doesn't remove hexes since if you stagger them right you can get a 120 health heal every 7 or 8 seconds

P.S. Mesmer's aren't about numbers that you can see

wth? Me/N is probably one of the best combinations in the game. Necro spells take a long time to cast and fast cast helps alot. Also, mes/ns probably make the best shutdown/degen char in the game, transfer, guilt/shame, mark of subversion, diversion, blah blah, it works great, stick with it

I love the Mesmer side of my Character(Primary).

and the more I play with the Mesmer spells, the more I love them. I just got turned on to my Interrupts, and it is all love.

I like how I have a major effect on the battles(at least in PVE), but nobody ever notices. they don't notice when I keep the spellcaster in the enemy group from casting heals with my Interrupts(making it easier to drop the rest of the enemy group). or when that warrior mob is losing his health awfully fast, nobody realizes that Empathy is on it, and it takes damage every time it swings a weapon. things like that.

it's one of the biggest draws of being a Mesmer for me, is being able to affect the battlefield without anyone on your team really noticing it.

my problem is that I can't choose a damn secondary. I've got Ranger right now, but I really am not liking it, nor do I feel any want or need to use my ranger skills.

if you play with fragility, a me/r can be effective for just random damage untill your spells cool down. with NO points in wilderness survival, apply poison will trigger fraglity every 3 seconds and incendiary arrows will do so every 1 sec interrupting as you go along. this with only 2 skills on your skillbar, that's it. it's not a massive mob killer, but it will make u effective even when you run low on energy or waiting for your cooldowns. keep a crappy bow on a secondary weapon set and there you go

Blackout is pretty good as just being the last thing you cast before running out of energy. Do everything else you can, and Black someone out when you are close to 0 energy. Then run away and charge up -- you were nearing uselessess for a period of time anyway, so take someone out with you.

Preferably the healer.

Not just hexes, the energy tap skill is slow but with fast casting, it's quite ready.

The 2s. curses hexes that shut out masses of warrior trains: Enfeebling Blood and Shadow of Fear have no cast bar with fast casting.

Fast casting ROX for any spell caster. Why not? ^_^

Interruptors are another story.

I have a Me/N at 14th lvl right now. I love this combo. I'm running with Curses/Fast Casting/Illusion/ and a little Blood. I'm currently using:

Soul Barbs
Parasitic Bond
Life Siphon
Faintheartedness
Conjure Phantasm
Mark of Pain
Vampiric Gaze
Rez Signet

I can get 10 pips of degen on a foe's health. I love it!
