Monk Strategy in Groups
I was looking for a basic guide of useful information, on how to be a sucessful Monk in both PVE and PVP groups. I tend to play healers in MMOs, because I find I enjoy those classes the most and they also fit my play style. I am fairly new to this game however, and feel I could improve a lot on my skills at healing. My idea is, dont play a class if your not going to play it well, so I'm just looking for some good general or even advanced info on how to be a sucessful healer. Thanks in advance.

A few tipps
Generally you dont need to be a good healer, a good protection monk is also very usefull. The Point is the you need a good group to be effektiv, sure a good monk can fix a lot after all, but hes not allmighty.
Some points you should take a look at:
1. In wich areas you play (a lot of mesmer, caster, warrior or mix)?
2. What you can do to keep your mana on a high lvl (Offering of Blood, Channeling, Energy Drain etc.)?
3. Can your teammates handle conditions or did they need your care (if you got only Elementalists or a pure Warrior group is like night and day) ?
4. Will you need a lot of selfprotection (for example in tombs)?
Thats some points that you should take a look at imo.
For a normal Healerbuild look at the fixed monk builds in Campfire, but i think that you should earn exp by your own.

If you try to keep everyone at 100% HP you're going to waste mana, try to keep everyone at 99% and you know you've used every point of energy to its fullest.

Make sure you don't have any redundant heal skills. For example, Heal Other and Word of Healing don't mix, since Word has such low recharge and basically is used for the same purpose as Other (healing one target that is low on Health.) Also, 1-2 spammable healing skills is really all that's needed, so if you have Word and Orison don't take something like Dwayna's.

In large 8v8 games, communicate with your other monks. Bring 2 healers and 1 protection. If you are a healer, assign yourself to be responsible for healing yourself and 3 other teammates, not including the other healer. The other healer is responsible for himself and the other 3 teammates. This ensures that there is no double healing and waste of energy. The prot should be able to mitigate damage so no one's hp is dropping too fast to be able to be healed by a single monk. If you are out of energy/being sht down and cannot heal a dying ally youa re responsible for, COMMUNICTATE (ts or vent helps) and the other healer can rescue you.
Speaking of being shut down, it is imperitive that a monk have longetivity. A way to gain energy back. Offering of Blood is about the best you can do there, but energy drain can substitute in a pinch.
As for which healing spells to use, my philosophy is to:
Bring one "power" heal spell (infuse health, heal other, etc)
One Self Heal (Healing Touch)
And one spam heal (orison)
The rest is completely up to you.

I think that's silly. Using orison, word, and heal other keeps people alive pretty damn well if you have energy management (which you shouldn't leave home without). A 4 second recharge is not low when it comes to healing. Orison doesn't heal enough to outheal a serious attacker at all. Using heal other exclusively will kill your energy, channeling or not. You must be talking about 4v4.

Word/Heal Other is only used to bring back a target from low health. With a coordinated team of 8, if someone is almost dying faster than every four seconds, 1.) you won't have close to enough energy to keep up, especially with Heal Other 2.) your team isn't very good anyways.

I am a mo/me and primarily a healer. i use my mesmer skills for energy drain only. normally i run healing breeze, dwaynas kiss and orison of healing. with my healing maxed out i can take a commrad from under 25% health, spam those three once and they are back to about 90-95% (this only works in pve!) then i use Energy drain (mesmer elite) to catch up quick on my mana......

If you can keep your team alive without word/heal other, the other team isn't very good anyways. With channeling I've never had energy problems using heal other, unless drained or QZed.
