You'r take on the usefulness of trapper in PvP(mainly arena)and PvE
What should a trap ranger be/do/attempt to be/do in PvP and PvE(besides UW runs)?
I have a trapper, but I am having trouble finding my niche. |

Learn to combat trap in PVP. If you can't do that, you're not going to be very effective. This usually involves whirling defense and throw dirt to defend yourself from interrupts from enemy warriors or rangers who may decide to whack you if they see you trying to lay a trap.
I'd go with Oath Shot for your elite so you can recharge vital skills like whirling and throw dirt. Combat trapping also works well in PVE, so you should be fine. Just make sure you don't attract any aggro, and if you do, back off and let your team's warrior take the heat, get behind him, and lay your traps from there. |

Trappers are very good in GvG due to the strategic nature of the maps. They are pretty decent in Tombs as long as the trapper really knows what they are doing.
In Arena I think you will have a hard time being super effective due to the more wide open nature of Arena PvP and that there is only 4 opponents. In PvE certain areas are very popular for trappers such as underworld. But I don't have much experience there as I avoid PvE whereever possible and Underworld other than occasionally solo farming seems pretty pointless. |

I don't really see a use in arena except on bridges, but in GvG traps are really good. Especially in maps like Isle of the Dead, we can really choke the hallways with wards and traps.

I guess my real delema is, will my traps have enough damage output to be an asset to the team?

Wrong priority, TranquilSoul. Sure, traps can do a lot of damage, but that's not the point of traps. Traps are used to blind and cripple opponents, which in turn gives your team a chance to pull those big moves, save the monk's energy, and/or run away and regroup.
If you're a battle trapper, I suggest putting down Dirt Trap first, as it is the most expensive to place and strategically best to use first. Once they're all blind, placing the other traps will be easier. |

The damage isn't the point (although it helps). Traps are mostly for disruption, and a trapper that's left alone can really ruin people's shit.
