Best Petmaster build
Hi there.
Can anyone suggest a good pure beastmaster build and skillset for pve and pvp please?
I am taking along charm, comfort and haste, but I don't know what other skills too use.
Any suggestions please?
Best Regards, Ashleigh.

This isn't the end all and be all, but you NEED Call of Protection. I'm still debating most of the others, but Predator's Pounce is useful to keep health up and Feral Lunge is very good. The bleed lasts a long time, and Scavenger's Strike uses the condition to do even more damage. Keep haste. Your pet will be faster than a sprinting warrior this way. They so love to run when their health is low, but when attacked again, and bleeding, then the coup-de-gras -- they panic and die.
I would highly recommend doing something to keep yourself in the game longer. At the very least, carry Troll's Unguent -- but perhaps you can rely on your secondary to give yourself some protection/healing. I know this doesn't make you a 'Pure' beastmaster, but I recommend it nonetheless.

I find Melandrus assault handy, it helps against elementalists with aura of restoration and an attunement on them.
Bestial Pounce Is also a good knockdown.
Keep replys coming please

I wonder if echo serpents debilitating strike has been improved by this whole shouty buissness. If it has, check that out. Interrupt shutdown.... amazing.

Now that they show the damage that the pets do I might break out my pet and start experimenting.
Can you control the pet like you can the henches? (c + space)

That simply makes you start attacking the closest enemy and yes your pet will start attacking when you do and the same target as you.
But the problem is when you want to send your pet into the enemy to attack while you stay back and avoid aggro. It really can't be done atm. The minute you stop attacking before your pet can engage, it will stop, turn around, adn run back to you. Thus, still bringing aggro right to you.
I'm sure (I hope anyway) that they will patch the game with some commands to use on the pet for better control in this regard (attack, stay, aggresive, defensive, etc), it's been asked for as much as being able to see pet dmg.

i know really... it's so stupid how they haven't added the ability to do that... i mean c'mon... for a game of combo's and stuff
i use a Denravi sword with +5 ene and +30 HP ( can't get these anymore unless off another player ) ... and i don't really want to have to go melee my target to make my pet attack

I like maiming stirke. That way if someone is running from your pet you use call of haste + maiming and then that gives your pet the advantage. I've done this before and it works ^_^ (For those who don't know, maiming stirke cripples if they are moving)

I agree... I have found people too run from my gigantic level 20 bear, Yoggie.
But is cripple affect really worth the skill space? Your pet w/call of haste on him/her will be able too catch up anyway.

Ashleigh.

It depends what you're talking about, pve or pvp.. Ferocious strike is a must for either in most cases.
Crippling will ensure that all your pets hits will land.. but chances are they will stop trying to run, so you won't be landing all those crits either. Up to you. Call of haste I would only use for two things: run speed and more interrupting. If you do the math, I think it's +4dps. You can easily do better with another attack skill.. however if you're trying to keep a monk or ele down, or you're really chaining those attacks, it is nice.
Melandru's is nice for pvp, not so nice for pve. Yes, it has its moments, but most of the time Brutal Strike or Scavenger+Feral is a better choice. Or both. Or all three.
Once again, it depends what you're doing. For pvp it's a lot safer to go crazy with attacks, but for pve, your pet will get targeted. That's why call of protection and symbiotic bond are so awesome. Symbiotic bond will damage you.. so best take a self heal of some sort. I think it's a small price to pay for 2x the armor on you pet. It says physical damage, but it works on elemental too. (tested)
Call of protection is just awesome because of how long it lasts at no cost to you. Otyugh's cry.. meh. I carry it when my pet is at low levels, but after that the rewards don't really seem to be worth it. Try it and see how you like it. I guess that could be said for all the skills.
Oh, and if you're confident in yourself and your group.. Edge of Extintion is an extremely fun skill to play with. Gotta try that one too.
Good luck on your beast master!

I played around with a beastmaster build, was quite effective in pvp. Killing a monk solo with a pet is just too funny
Skills:
Maiming Strike
Disrupting Lunge
Ferocious Strike (Elite)
Call of Haste
Balthasars Aura
Comfort Animal
Cahrm Anilmal
Res Signet
14 Expertise
12 Beastmastery
10 Smiting
Defensive Smiting Staff of Enchanting
Reason I went smiting is because i didnt want to spend 9 points into Marksmanship just to use a bow, with no bow skills. Drawback is no self healing which means u get carved up by nasty warriors

hmm good idea on the SoM, i may try that instead of smiting off my pet.
Oh the hard part of being beastmaster is not being able to cripple the warrior chasing u, if u run and click maiming the pet wont attack till u attack, and if u stop to attack the warrior is standing so maiming wont work! god thats so annoying..
Anet plz change maiming to be unconditional cripple affect plz

It's a tradeoff between direct damage and range, but those single-target smite skills might be handy for a beastmaster: For example, creatures who use Ranger-type evade skills annoy me if all I'm doing is physical damage. However, hit them with Banish, or Smite and I don't miss.
