The Best Tank in the game
Warrior/elementalist Health 450
base atributes:
earth->11
Axe Mastery->11...14
Tactics->8...9
Strength->2...3
----
Knight's set:
Armor Level 80
-3 dmg
----
Rune of superior Vigor
Rune of Superior Absortion
Rune of Superior Axe Mastery
Rune of Minor Tactics
Rune of Minor Strength
----------
Artifact of earth
+10 mana
+5 defence
---------
skills:
Penetrating Blow...5 adrenaline
Executioner's Strike...8 adrenaline
Dismember...7 adrenaline
Axe Twist...8 adrenaline (you can choose Axe Rake if you think you'll fight against cowards...)
Cyclone Axe...5 energy
Healing Signet
Armor of Earth...10 energy
Obsidian Flesh [Elite]...10 energy
With this build when you are to encounter foes, cast armor of earth for 51 armor level (al) for 30 seconds, then cast obsidian flesh for 20 al and immunity to spells cast at you for 17 seconds. Now you will be a warrior whose enemies wont be able to cast conditions at and you'll have armor class of more than 160!!!! If a warrior with 16 in hammer mastery hits you with a base dmg of 40 he will only hit for 7 damage, and you'll have dmg reduction of 3, so you will only suffer 4 dmg!!!!!! You will have 10 more mana for cyclone axe if fighting against mobs, and and the other attack skills require adrenaline...
Enjoy

Imo, the "best" tank in the game shouldn't wear a full knight armor's set, you'd better put a full Gladiator set on him with only 1 piece of knight (wrist or boots), you'll have the same Armor (80) but with better defense against physical damage (20 instead of 10) and some extra mana due to the Glad armor which can help since you'll have to cast and refresh protect spells a lot, btw I think knight armor's absorption is -2 and not -3

*hands out a fireproof vest*
You do realize you're snaring yourself with Armor of Earth and that you won't be able to run after your targets, don't you? And that you only need one piece of knight armor to get the universal bonus. And that you need a lot of energy to renew your earth spells. And that you should use a +1 axe helm.
In short, I'm not sure this build deserves such a thread title.

He has an axe skill to criple enemies... when fighting pve he won't need to cripple, because the enemies will come to him. As for the energy... he uses an artifact that gives +10 energy, so he'll have 30 energy. So he'll spend 20 energy to cast the spells, he won't cast them again for at least 30 seconds, and the only energy skill he has costs 5 and he'll only need to use it if he wants to hit lots of surrounding enemies... So i continue to place mybet on this build!

I've seen a guy with this build kill an air elementalist that couldnt use spells on him because of obsidian flesh, and two warriors that weren't doing almost any damage to him. I was one of them, and i used lots of skills like bleeding, etc.
Try it, if you don't belive me... that build is doing great.
edit: I like the knight's set because of the dmg reduction and the great looks. I think this is the most powerful armor in the game!

PvE build? Ok. Any tank build works anyway, but yours can be improved:
- Don't use Obs.Flesh. As a tank you WANT to attract as many spells as possible and to be the main target (you're not as soft as spellcasters). If you hide under Obs.Flesh, your allies will be targetted instead of you so you're not doing your tank job.
- Don't use Dismember/Twist: mobs are killed so quickly by your nukers that you won't need snares anyway
- Don't use a full knight armor, once piece is enough.
- Use defensive stances to stay alive longer (espcially when using the signet)
- Use a +1 axe helm and a zealous axe (plus an elemental axe in second switch)
- Don't use a superior axe. A PvE tank needs as many hps as possible, and damage is only a bonus.
- Use a shield with damage absorption and extra life while enchanted for -5 universal absorb and higher defense

If you're talking of PvP, it may be a good turtle build for the random arena, however in a higher level environment it's very weak. Even in the random arena playing a turtle build is bad. Against a decent runner (or against another turtle), the best you can achieve is a draw.

Read again. One piece is enough, the absorption is universal. As for the armor model look, it's up to you, but don't expect good feedback if you base your efficiency on look.

I had such a build (I ran it with Arcane Echo, making Obsidian Flesh last for a full minute)
But I felt useless in PvP (I don't do random except to test my builds), so I don't use it. What's the point in just staying alive? A useless living person is worth less than some dude that died in 5 seconds but at least had time to get a useful spell out.

In terms of PvE, this is to me the most pointless tank in the game...
I base the definition, "tank" on a very massive system designed to dish out AS WELL AS take massive amounts of damage.
This Warrior can't hurt a fly...
My Tank, instead of hiding behind cowardly enchantments that enemies tend to shatter, I utilize the devastating effects of Enfeebling Blood coupled with Victory is Mine! to keep both my energy and my hp at record levels just before death... [healing for 600hp when you're at 9 hp is quite thrilling]
Bonetti's is my 2nd energy manager/defensive skill in one.
Mark of Pain for the record, on my warrior, will allow me to kill mobs FAR faster and more efficiently then any Nuker's spell will...
This OP build is no tank, it's a training dummy monsters slap around all day in pve.
My build blows up mobs in 1min. or less...[and survives] THAT'S the best tank in the game...

I as a tank want to stay alive as much as possible. If i wanted a build to dish out dmg i would build an elementalist. My tank is design to stay alive, when you say my build doesnt dish dmg, well... 14 n axe mastery and those skills, i think im making plenty of dmg. as to the health, i only take 8 or less dmg, and cant the target of a spell.

Just curious. How do you gain 600hp with one ViM? At ~60 per shout that means ~10 conditions stacked. And could you post a link to your build (for reference purpose)?

You're definition of tank quite different from the rest of us, it is the meatwad the enemy mobs are supposed to throw shit at while the other team members do their work. You're not playing a pure tank; you're playing a tank/debuffer.
However, I have no idea why the OP is carrying attack skills and healing on a tank; that's the job of his nukers and healers. If this build is indeed PvP, it would only work in the Random Arenas.
Also, I like the way the OP uses Armor of Earth and calls kiters cowards.
The OP isn't playing a tank, either; he's playing a well-rounded Warrior that happens to have Armor of Earth. However, with that build, he won't be gathering too much fire in PvE and catch anyone in PvP.

When i call an enemy coward that's not because of his protections, it's because he is running away, and to prevent someone to run away from you when you are 21% slower that him, you use Axe Rake to slow him. Also don't forget hi am carrying obsidian flesh...
And you should know that in pvp when you find the other team they aren't that far from you.

Um, duh? AoE still slows you, know matter how you put it. A good monk can easily kite against Warriors who don't have a speed penalty, so 21% slow is going to make it even easier; how to you expect to to hit him to get the adrenaline up in the first place? Besides, your build still lists Axe Twist.

the slowness is applied only to the speed with which you walk. not the speed of the hits.
edit: sorry the bad english. thanks for the feedback, i'm rethinking the perfect warrior

The last, "Ultimate Tank" thread I remember also was a W/E using Earth AL buffs.
What I think some people are unaware of is this;
Attack skills Additional/Extra damage cuts through AL, giving the full amount. My elementalist has far more AL than any warrior, 291 vs Physical, 242 vs Fire damage except on head hits, where my AL is 227 vs Fire, and 251 vs all other elemental attacks.
Even if bulls had 16 Strength for max armor penetration, my AL would still be 244 vs physical after the reduction. An attack would deal a meager 4% or so of its base damage.
Raising your AL gives diminishing returns to normal damage to begin with, but this really makes it pointless to go all-out increasing it. In order to get a much sharper decrease in damage, you have to also make use of 75% block/evasion stances, as the only way you can reduce the damage from those attack skills is to have them blocked/evaded, so that they don't hit in the first place.

Quoted for truth.. I wish more PvE warriors understood this (esp. the last part).
