Personally rangers are the easiest runners to learn how to use. But overall an E/Me is my fave in my opinion. Illusion of haste ignore cripple and as an ele you can probably keep it up gor quite a while and when it ends and the other runner isn't near you ask your monk to remove it . Also you can if they hex you inspired and hex them right back. just keep stacking water magic hexes but overall they are more complicated and require a lot of micromanagement to be as effective as a ranger runner. And also you could go into earth for ward against foes and iron mist which will just screw a runner sp badly if not removed.

R/N all the way for me.
being able to solo anyone who DOESN'T run away is a big plus against dumb enemies. Took on a decend ward/trapping e/r who was hogging the flagstand and killed him with his own conditions just in time to kill the enemy runner, who stuck around due to one last plague touched barbed trap.

Rangers are definitely the easiest flag runners to use, while definitely being effective. My runner of choice is a E/Mo prot though

In our Guild (XLI) I run a Me/R flagcarrier:
7 fast casting
15 illusion magic
/ domination magic
7 inspiration magic
11 wilderness survival
Troll Unguent
Crippling Anguish [ELITE]
Conjure Phantasm
Phantom Pain
Arcane Conundrum
Inspired Hex
Storm Chaser
Resurrection Signet
This is, ofcourse, a build adapted to our GvG build and should be tweaked to your team. It just gives a general idea on what the Flag Runner should have.

Out of curiousity Eagle, why are you running Arcane Conundrum on a build with no interrupts? I can see it being helpful against certain kinds of flag runners, but since so many are Rangers or rely on quick-cast spells the utility seems pretty limited.
Seems like Mantra of Persistence might be a stronger choice with all the illusion magic hexes you've got. It would be a decent effect with your Inspiration level, and greatly lengthen that Crippling Anguish and Conjure Phantasm.

mantra is a stance and may sometimes conflict with storm chaser.

energy/recharge of those is a problem however

Arcane conundrum is a lasting and irritating skill. Put it on a caster in between running back and forth, it wont kill anyone but it will make their life perhaps a little difficult if other teammates are draining all their removal on other stuff.
The mans got 7 fast casting, its not very hard to take out a little bit of time to mess someone up.
