Fun in Random Arenas
Here's an experiment I decided to try. The idea is to appear as helpless and tasty to opposing warriors as possible, and then spike them for nearly 200 damage when they close for an "easy" kill.
So, what's tastiest to a warrior? Why an Elementalist who's lacking a Monk secondary, of course! Low armor, nasty damage dealing spells that you really can't leave alone for too long.
Here's what I did:
Earth Magic: 11+1
Energy Storage: 8
Tactics: 12 (yes, yes: I know)
Here are my skills:
Riposte
Deadly Riposte
Bonetti's Defense
Watch Yourself
Obsidian Flame
Magnetic Aura
Armor of Earth
Resurrection Signet
I also used the +15/-1 regen wand and focus, to pump my energy to 96.
So, if I'm facing a warrior or two, I start wanding them, and hitting them with Obsidian Flame. This should indicate that I am a noob who doesn't know or care about exhaustion and the like. And besides, earth magic in PVP? For *offense*?! With any luck, said warrior will charge me sword (or what-have-you) a-swinging, so I switch to sword and shield. I don't do any damage whatsoever with my sword attacks, but I don't care: Riposte will do 51 and block a melee attack, Deadly Riposte will do another 41 and bleed them for 21 seconds (again, another parry for me) and I can Obsidian Flame for another 94. Yes, it's usually by this time that the warrior in question decides to stay the hell away from me, but no worries! At 5 energy, and with 96 energy in storage, I can Obs Flame for a while.
Rangers give me problems, though, and so do Monks. Necros and Mesmers haven't been that bad so far, though an IW would rip me a new one.
DUH! Gash! They're already bleeding from Deadly, so Deep Wound them as well! Brilliant!

Let me be a bit more specific than the others....
As soon as I see a retarded elementalist running at me with: Sword/Hammer/Axe -- I'll call another target and we'll kill your ( hopefully ) more useful teammates.
Then you can stand there and wonder how your whole team got WTFPWNED. Your only non-conditional damage skill is Obsidian Flame -- and that's just sad :S
If you really wanted to be anti-warrior, you'd bring skills like "Blurred Vision" -- that will have a much greater effect than attempting to duel their Warriors. Just how is using this "build" fun for your other three teammates..?? They're essentially fighting 4 vs 3

I wouldnt underestimate it if I were you. Earth eles can be an extremely potent offensive force, especially if paired.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.
beginners_luck, if this is build is fun for you, great. There are better ways to screw up warriors, though.

Well where do I start?
Yes, this build does kinda suck without any warriors to play with.
No, I don't run at a warrior with a shield, I lure them in with wandings/obsidian flame/standing in front of my team.
Yes, I HAVE managed to take a few warriors down with this, but yes, they do move on relatively quickly.
Yes, I've had teammates leave just at the sight of an E/W
And finally yes, I know there are better ways to screw up warriors, but honestly, how many E/Ws do you actually SEE in random arenas? Plus, I really wanted to play with the Riposte skills. And, oh yes, this'd probably be infinitely more useful in PvE, but I thought it'd be fun to try in PvP.
Oh, and before I forget, why would you move on to my other teammates when you see a retarded E/W just begging to be slaughtered, anyhow?

Water + Earth = pwnage for warriors in random arenas, well, in my experience...
Or if you really wanna go E/W...not much choice...

As an aside, I'm also trying this as a N/W with blood. Not too shabby thus far. Less defensive, though.

Once I see those various earth defensive spells go up, I'm on to the next soft target. Between the choice of you and a regular elementalist or other caster without serious anti-warrior defense spells, why would I continue attacking you? I can take down the other guy faster.

Ok, well here's something based around ineptitude:
Earth: 12
Illusion: 10+2
Energy Storage: 8+1
Major Vigor rune, as well
Ineptitude (E)
Ethereal Burden
Clumsiness
Shock
Aftershock
Armor of Earth
Crystal Wave
Requisite Res Sig.

No, make them on anything, and just make sure they utterly suck and dont listen when people tell you it sucks. Then post another build, and flood the forum making little to no contribution. If i could start life again, thats what id do.

C'mon, give the guy a break.. He's trying to get feedback on his builds. He'll realize certain things as he PvP's more.
For the second build you posted: It seems like you're trying to do too many things at once.

Actually, if I were to use that build, I'd hit Clumsiness, then Ineptitude, then Shock/Aftershock, with Crystal Wave if I need it, Ethereal Burden for extra energy and Armor of Earth for protection. It's ideally a lot of single-target damage.
Thanks for backin' me up, by the way.

The second build is decent. It has a nice big downtime after you kill the first warriro though. That could be closed by a more quickly usable skill such as conjure phantasm instead of armor of earth.

Same here. I'm frankly puzzled that Tank Monks (You know Obsidian Flesh + Armor of Earth/Kinetic Armor) have survived as long as they have when anyone who's halfway wise to the build can just switch targets.

I have recently seen a lot of Ob-Flamers in C A.
I made one myself, with arcane echo, and it had a tendency to do well as long as there wasnt to much protection magic flying around.

Tank Monks are people who prey on newbie/silly warriors that do not adapt to different situations.
Whenever I see a tank monk on the enemy team, I'll just switch targets and tank monks are mostly helpess whenever this happens.
But most warriors in CA do not know target priority, focus fire nor target switching, which is probably the main reason why these tank monks come out.
Other strange monk build I've seen that prey on stupid warriors include:
Mo/R
- not really a healer but uses traps to catch unsuspecting/ignorant warriors that insist on attacking monk class whether tankers or smiters or whatever else.
P/S. I'm a warrior class fan and whenever I see these warriors fall into plain obvious traps/schemes, whatever you call it, makes me mad

What really pisses me off is when you call:
Monk is using Obsidian Flesh!
Monk is using Armor of Earth!
Monk is using Kinetic Armor!
I am attacking Mesmer/Necro/Elementalist/Ranger/Warrior!
then the other warrior on your team keeps trying to override your call.
Noob warrior is attacking Monk!
I am attacking Mesmer/Necro/Elementalist/Ranger/Warrior!
Noob warrior is attacking Monk!
I am attacking Mesmer/Necro/Elementalist/Ranger/Warrior!
then at the end of the game he goes OMFG NOOB WHY DIDN'T U ATTACK TEH MONK!

I agree that straight tanking-monks can't do much at all unless someone's hitting on them, but shouldn't monks at least carry some kind of counterattack? Say, as an incentive to get that pesky warrior off them in the first place?

best anti warrior imo
12 illusion
16 tactics (+4)
4 strength (+1)
Gladiators defense
shields up
riposite
deadly riposite
heal signet
illusion of weakness
sympathetic visage
res sig
basically you just go a swingin at a warrior and he see's like -1's -0's and thinks your complete noob
then you cast Sympathetic + riposite + deadly riposite + gladiators all at the same time, then just spam the 2 riposites while healing,
there is no way for the opponent to win, because if he attacks he dies, if he doesnt then its waiting game
i've spent many an hour against 4 warriors, just out tanking them with this build
