Is my character a gimp?
I'm fairly new at this game; had no clue wut I was doing when I chose my second proffesion. I'm an E/Mo.. I don't see many people with them, and I'm starting to assume that's a bad thing.. I understand that there's no *best* but I just don't wanna waste any more time grinding the character if I'm gonna get pwned in PVP. Any feedback appreciated; ya'll can flame me for being a newb, too..

Most people make new PvP-only characters to do PvP. PvE for them is to unlock skills and upgrades.

Ok, cool. Was wondering about that; as far as whether or not PVP only would have access to the items my RP char unlocked. Thanks bro.

I dunno if this is the same for E/Mo's, but as a Mo/E I dropped ALL of my elementalist skills and became a pure monk after I cleared Ascalon. Never looked back, except in times of frivolous fancy.
Of course, plenty of Elementalist skills have been unlocked for PvP, so silver lining, eh?

In spite of smite-nerfs, the Elementalist/Monk is still a fine character with a lot to offer any party. You're certainly not "gimped" (althought like any profession combo, you can gimp yourself really fast by bad skill selections). As an El/Mo you can do...well..pretty much anything (although some things -- spreading conditions, for example, or interrupting -- are rather more trouble for this combo than it's worth to attempt).
You could go pure offense easily. Or you could do pure defense easily. Or you could do a combination.
The good news is you can change if you want to. PvP characters need only recreate -- they won't lose anything, really. PvE characters can change their secondary profession as often as they would like once they've ascended and visited Droknar's. They, too, lose nothing with the change.
Good luck with your El/Mo

I'm a defensive ele. I either play air/heal with air for blinding, weakness, and spike damage or earth/heal for heal ball and armor/wards...
I tried protection but it doesn't fit me that well. I hate maintaining enchantments.

I love my e/mo fire burster watchamacallit. With good timing, i can completely avoid scatter, and when im bored i have a great 55 build on him that is much faster then most other monk combos

I thought that I made a bad choice when I made a W/E but I just saw a post and as that guy said you can always quest to change your secondary...no big deal. So the really big guilds even "They" use the PvP characters? I would assume that best characters are PvE

I don't know about the big guilds, but there are some PvE characters visible in observer mode, even in the playoffs. However, that's probably not because of any competitive advantage they give. They probably just like that character, and had extra cash on hand. If we assume a player has unlocked everything, it breaks down like this:
PvP character Pros
Any primary class, switch in minutes
All skills available, no need to buy them for yet another PvE character
Every rune, no need to buy another Superior Vigor or Absorb
Every weapon upgrade, no need to buy a +30 health mod
Free armor and weapons, including 15>50 on whatever you need
PvP character Cons
Only two weapon sets can be chosen
Can't choose special PvE items like the discontinued Henge of Denravi Sword, or a focus with negative energy
Most desirable PvE weapons and foci can be placed in storage and accessed by PvP characters to get around the Cons.
It can cost a lot of gold and skill points to get a PvE character ready for high-level PvP, and you still sacrifice some of the flexibility of a PvP slot.
