Default getting into groups...

ok im new at pvp...i dont rly understand i have made 6 characters and have maxed them all! I have maxed every profession but a mesmer. When i go to HA all people want is people with fame and rank. I understand that...but when i tell them my exp in PvE they say "So *%#^ what!"... i cant find anyunranked teams. My question is simple. I have deleted my ranger to make a PvP character...what i want to know is. What profession should i go and what skills should i use to be able to atleast get in 1 group per every 4 hours lol. You may think that sounded stupid but i took my ss necro and advertised in dis. 1 for over 6 hours with no unranked teams to be found....and do u think i got in a team? NO! I dont understand PvP that much....well if u can help me leave me a reply on here or message my 55 monk at Iam Jake The Monk. Thx if u help but plz dont just call me a noob for making this post.

I had the same problem for a while. Those ranked PUGs only occasionally win in HoH so you aren't missing much. The key is to find some buddies and team up to form a good build; the friends list is the best HA gather tool.

The best build, i have found, for getting into groups is boon-prot. You said you don't have mesmer unlocked, but you only need two skills, so you can faction-unlock it.

Mo/Me

12+4 divine favor
10+1 prot
9+1 inspiration magic

[reversal of fortune][guardian][prot spirit][Contemplation of Purity][inspired hex][mantra of recall{e}][boon][res sig]

Be sure to keep boon up, and use MoR whenever possible. Inspired hex takes some e-denial off yourself. Use CoP when you get hex stacks or crippled/deep wound, and remember to always kite when you're under attack. Otherwise, the build takes practice.

You won't get into many good unranked PUGs, but you'll at least get into groups. People are always looking for monks.

Well first off, try contacting people in the forum's HA PuG Contact thread before you start complaining about not being able to find a group. It's a sticky for a reason.

The main thing you need to do is start building up a friends list of people you do get grouped with so so that you can start making groups on your own. Make groups on your own, and start coming up with builds. Look at builds that people run against you, and dissect what works and what doesn't.

You're running a boon-prot in HA? o.O

Thats hardly a conventional setup that all groups require.

True, if u wanna get into groups more easy, it's better to go as a RC-active prot.

Oh yeah, use observermode to c what groups are doing. Observe the profession u would like to play, and start practising that in competition arena to get used to it. U'll get some faction too then.

But dont forget that CA is a whole lot different than HA.

I understand how you feel, getting into PUG groups before r3 is extremely difficult. And it isn't until you get to r6 that you can actually find some decent PUG's that will hold hall.

2 advice I can give you is this
1) Getting into a guild that does HoH alot will, of course, help alot. (You just have to find a friendly one that will teach you the basics of hall and what to do there)

If for some reason you can't get into a guild like that (I couldn't since I can't leave my RL friend's guild) then...
2) When you see those GLF r3++(whatever), you can try to just pm the leader and tell him that you can run the build and is willing to listen and do what is needed. I find that a lot of times, they let you in anyway.

Other than that, just try to form friend and know that getting to r3 is indeed a lot of grind if you just PUG. Be prepared to spent 6 hours in ascent and come out with 0 fame if you just rely on PUG.

I agree with many of the above posters who said that being a monk is a decent way to start in HA. Most teams need one, and you don't need to know much about tactics...just keep people alive.

The FOTM builds for monks are:

WoH/HP: word of healing, heal party, other heals, some hex remover

SB/Infuse: Spellbreaker, Infuse health, other heals, hex remover...Infuse takes a bit of getting used to...try other builds first

Active Prot: Remove Conditions as elite, aegis, guardian, reversal, prot spirit, etc

Most balanced and spike builds are using 3 monks with this setup...or at least they will coordinate the monk elites brought by each monk.

Another VERY common build asked for is an Earth Warder. Something like...

Glyph of Energy, earthquake, obs flame, ward vs melee, ward vs foes, earth attune, rez sig, (either stone daggers or aftershock)

Axe warriors are also very common...but most groups expect the axe warrior to call targets...and that can be intimidating if you're not used to HA yet.

Also: try Teams arena...people are more accepting of different builds there, and it is much faster getting a group. You'll be able to get a feel for a lot of the builds run in HA.

Very true. It's better to spend time meeting good players and making freinds with people that know how to play. Quality > quantity in this situation. It's better to play one or two games with an experienced, organized group than to be in 8 PUG groups where you don't even make it past Underworld. A few nights ago no PvPers were on in my guild or on my freindslist - I played in like 6 PuG groups for 6 hours for a grand total of 4 fame.

Never had much trouble getting into a balanced PUG with boon-prot, even though i'm still rank 2. Typically, the set up is either:
boon/active/sb-infuse
active/WoH/sb-infuse
boon/active/WoH

The third one seems to be the one i get into most. WoH becomes like infuse when it is rank 15-16. Not to say thats the best idea, but its how i get rank when no one wants a shock-axe or KD.

I dunno, when I feel like trying my luck with PUGs in Heroes' Ascent, I just go "boon/prot monk LFG" and I get an invite quickly...but that doesn't mean that the group gets very far :o

But yes, the Friends list is your key to getting into groups. An IRL friend of mine has their wolf so he occasionally asks for me (unranked :|) to (badly, usually causing the group to all get owned) monk for his (at least r3+) group for some odd reason (can't find a guild monk?) I get called an unranked noob when I play with his guild though :|

Hmm whenever I need to use a person thats new to pvp in my teams he usually gets easy roles to play. Things like Tainted Necro, Warder and SS necro.

Try advertising as one of those, I would not suggest monking and especially not boon/prot.

Yeah, he's right about that. Playing as a monk in balanced is arguably one of the most difficult things.

well, first, try to find a pvp guild. I used to have the same problem until yesterday when i pugged my way into a great guild that runs balanced.

Trapping works really well at getting into groups, because a variety of builds use trappers (Minion Factory and IWAY builds especially).

My trap build differs depending on what the group wants, but for iway run all four damage traps, spirits, mantra of resolve, and rez sig. its easy fame, you just have to trap the bridges or the priests or the relics.

There are a lot of players in the TA's looking out for players for their guild. I got 3 guild invites from people yesterday within around 2 hours of play.

A boon prot will have absolutely no problem getting into TA teams. Try and tag onto the teams with 2 or 3 of the same guild members.

If you get an invite, ask how often they GVG / HOH and see if they can offer what you're looking for.
