ooooooo. ressed.
when i look at my posts in this thread, i can't refuse to smile. time has passed and i still believe in the same things i posted (when i wasn't blessed with fame/math is still a young guild).
im happy that Ado got the big picture.

IMO, there is nothing wrong with that, ppl play what they like the most and play a profession which they are most comfortable with.
To clearify this I'll give an example of my daily life. I've studied classical guitar at the conservatory, and that's of course the style I know best. Don't ask me to play Jazz, I simply can't. Does that make me a noob-guitarplayer? If it's about Jazz, yes I am then. If I could make an emote regarding that, my emote would only represend the time I've spend on playing classical guitar, not on other styles.
Now there are many guitarplayers who can only play rock/pop-music (a style which is a lot easier than classical). Do I flame them for doing that? No, it's the style they like to play most. It doesnt bother me for even 1 second. So keep on rockin!
This example is exactly the same with the discussion about balanced-IWAY. You can't force ppl to play a certain build.
I rest my case.

about fame/rank being useless, at face value yes. it's just numbers/graphics. you get to know the skill of a person if you watched him play or played with him.
skill is NOT being able to play 1234532 character/group builds. skill is being able to play 1 or 1234532 character/group builds efficiently and successfully.
i find it also good that some people/iwayers offer services to players who want to have emotes (though i think the rates are a bit high i.e 3k/fame). what's good about this? not only customers will get fame, they will also get the chance to know the maps, how to react to different builds that they face, how to win and what nots and there'll be less frustration coz of the experience of service providers. and i bet that those who'll get their (serviced) first emotes will be happy. i also experienced the joy of flashing the rank 3 emote for the first time.
fame is pretty much useless when you equate it to one's skill. but does it need to be wiped?
it's the only thing that drives people to play HA. there will be no point playing HA if there will be no fame. it's all for the bling bling, baby.

Blah blah blah. Yes rank can be a problem for you if you don't have it. If you're not in a guild that tombs often, you're stuck trying to pug and that can be pretty lame, but rank and fame really do have their place. Someone who has 4700+ fame under their belt will have had a hell of a lot more exposure to every aspect of HoH than someone who's running around with a brand new deer emote.
Even at rank 3+ it's hard to determine how well someone will play because they could have easily picked up their 180 fame through consecutive wins on the Underworld map... running it over and over. Sure they know how to play the first map well, but past that, they're screwed because they have no idea how to run a split, control portals, interrupt claims, gale kiters yadda yadda. People just need to realize that fame is valuable for it's verification of experience.
Of course there are highly ranked players (highly ranked meaning 7+) who just don't play or listen well, but at least most of them know the specifics of how the maps work and how to react to certain situations.
Fame for GvG and other PvP areas would cause too much confusion. People with 1000+ hours of hardcore GvG time (but no tombs experience) would get cleaned out trying to make it to HoH simply because the experience isn't there. Damn you're a great freakin' flagger, but now you're gettin' schooled trying to run relics because you mindset is stuck in a different gametype.

Suggestions for new people to HoH. I am only 270 fame; so this is a fresh/recent perspective.
1. Do your homework on builds, lots of good info on this forum. Alot of unranked people can get into groups by typing their skill bar. Also, If you are informed on all the pieces then you can start a group. People that start groups shorten their learning curve and will get placed on peoples friends list.
2. Do not rage quit after a loss. Losses allow tweaking to occur and weak members to be coached or kicked.
3. Deal with the fact that you are a HoH noob. Accept advice. Do not let the jerk flamers get to you.
4. Learn to recognize a sinking ship. Massive bickering and flaming in group; give the leader a bit to boot the trouble makers, but otherwise swim for the shore (this kind of contradicts advice #2, but to me there is a difference).
5. Watch what group builds are frequently looking for XXX; then research XXX and you should have an in demand role (until supply for XXX catches up), making it easier to find groups. Learn multiple builds, the more builds u can fulfill, the easier it is to find a group.
6. Be willing to reroll your PVP toon. Too lazy, well keep spamming for group then. . .
Some items already said but very worth repeating; have TS and Vent with WORKING Mic, be patient (it takes awhile), find a PVP guild (I chose not to, but that definitely made things harder).
If the emote is important to you or winning halls, stick with it. I have achieved my emote (was a good feeling), but have yet to savor my first Halls victory. Goals are good, and the harder goals are all the more sweeter.

IWAY up to rank 3. I know its boring because iway never wins, but youll get r3 eventually and you can join good groups.

list me the bar you would bring if you're the only warrior in a group, say a hex/degen group...
now tell me how you win on the map courtyard?
what happens if both teams capped 1 relic on a relic run, who wins?
How many ppl does it take to body block on unholy temples? sacred temples? where?
What do you do look for specifically if you see a bunch of E/N, Mo/Me, and a R/W?
On what maps do you NOT get morale for killing an enemy ghostly hero?
The hall of heroes is on a timer of how many minutes between each match?
etc. etc.
stuff you probably don't know, which is why you have to start at the bottom like everyone else, go into groups that lose, because that's the only way you will learn, you will make friends along the way, and you will build a solid social network.
You can't just dive in there and expect to win sigils right away...

People coming to this conclusion speedily is the reason why PuGs = unfun + unsuccessful. Especially if you are trying something new (Im talking all ranks here)
Basically if you have a competent leader and patient players you will improve. Those really are the most important things to have in place for HA success. Patience to stay with a team will help you work out each others strengths and weaknesses. The most important thing for joining a PuG is what the leader is like. If the leader knows what he is doing you are half way there.

but you cant forget that every time an unranked PuG loses a fight after winning 2 or 3 before it, the monks always feel they can leave -.-

Who does not see a difference between rage quitting and jumping off a sinking ship? Couple losses does not = a sinking ship. Losses at Zaishen and everyone starts cursing each other DOES = a sinking ship.
I agree the party success rests with the team leader. I will never abandon a good leader. A good leader can reign in griefers or boot them pretty quick; inaction is a killer when that crap starts.

They should make a system that u can just join with a random team like random area .. i know it sounds bad but i just get so tyred of w8ing 1 hour to make a party that leaves when ur in round 1 because there is 1 player that dos something wrong.
