Announcing 1 v 1 Tournament
1 v 1 Tournament
Hosted by: The Pirates of B B Q Bay [BBQ]
With the new scrimmage option available, the Pirates of B B Q Bay [BBQ] have decided to begin to host special One vs. One tournaments (2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 hopefully coming later). In this thread will be the rules, prizes, and chance to sign up for this exciting event. Are you ready to pit your skills against other players and win some gold?
This tournament is not for the profit of the hosting guild, and there will be in-game cash prizes for the top contestants. Entry fees will be required to cover costs, and all the money collected in the entry fees (minus the cost of guest invitations required to hold the tournament) will be distributed to winners. The entry fee for the tournaments will be 5K (in game gold) per contestant. This is not an invitational tournament – all players are welcome!
For the first tournament, the top two winners will receive a prize of in-game gold, where first place gets 75% of the tournament earnings and second place gets 25%. Depending on interest levels, we hope to give out additional prizes in future competitions. Brackets will be arranged randomly when entries are complete and times will be settled among the contestants challenging each other. For a 1v1 tournament, time arrangement should not be difficult.
Here is a summary of the different types of tournaments that we plan to host.
Same Class Battles:
There will be six different tournaments for the six appropriate damage-oriented classes. These classes are: Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, and Assassin. The skills you can use from these classes will be limited to a short list that will be given ahead of time. Speccing into attribute lines that are not in the attribute lines of the listed skills is not permitted (the skill doesn’t necessarily have to be on your bar though – e.g. you can spec strength without carrying any strength skills).
The Best:
This is a no rules, no limits, anything goes one vs. one battle pretty much. Any professions, any skills, any weapons, etc. may be used.
Base Elimination:
This will be a contest to see who can wipe out all of the opponent's base NPCs first (excluding Guild Thief, including all Archers, footmen, Bodyguards, and lastly, the Guild Lord). Fighting between the two contestants is not allowed. A death is an automatic loss.
---
Okay, so now here is the first tournament and the set of rules that goes with it:
Same Class Battle (Warrior):
Each participant is required to roll a Warrior primary with only common warrior skills on their bar. The skills may be from either of the campaigns, but must come from the following list:
Swordmanship
Sever Artery, Gash, Galrath's Slash, Final Thrust, Hamstring, Pure Strike, Savage Slash, Hundred Blades.
Hammer Mastery
Backbreaker, Devastating Hammer, Hammer Bash, Heavy Blow, Mighty Blow, Crushing Blow, Irresistable Blow.
Axe Mastery
Axe Rake, Cleave, Dismember, Disrupting Chop, Eviscerate, Executioner's Strike, Penetrating Blow, Swift Chop.
Strength
Battle Rage, Berserker's Stance, Bull's Charge, Bull's Strike, Endure Pain, Griffon's Sweep, Power Attack, Protector's Strike, Rush, Sprint, Warrior's Cunning.
Tactics
"Charge!", "Fear Me!", "To the Limit!", Healing Signet, Thrill of Victory
"For Great Justice!", Distracting Blow, Frenzy, Wild Blow.
Misc
Shock, Gale, Plague Touch, Tiger's Fury, Death's Charge,
Factions Skills
Tiger Stance, Coward, None Shall Pass, Sun And Moon Slash, Quivering Blade, Dragon Slash, Jaizhenju Strike, Enraged Smash, Shove, Forceful Blow
Players will be pitted against each other, one vs. one, at the flagstand of the BBQ Pirates' Guild Hall, and the first one to die is the loser. A BBQ referee will be included in one party, and other participants wishing to observe can be included in the parties but will not be allowed to participate.
The tournament is in the style of single-elimination, where the loser of a match is cut from the rest of the tourney and the winner advances to the next round. In these Same Class Battles, the first one to kill his/her opponent is the official winner of that match. It is not a best two out of three type deal.
You do not have to raid the opponent's base and kill their Guild Lord. You will fight at the flagstand with the help of no NPCs and no other players. Capturing the flagstand is not permitted. Movement will be restricted to a small area near the flagstand, to be shown to players before the match starts. As an idea, on the Imperial Isle, this area will be between the four trees in the center. We reserve the right to eliminate griefers from the tournament at the discretion of a [BBQ] referee. First one to die loses. Any questions may be posted in this thread. If issues come up that we haven’t set rules for in advance, our referees will make the best call they can in the interest of fairness and we’ll post rule changes for future tournaments.
And again, 5K to participate, payable by trade at the start of the tournament. You have the opportunity to win back MUCH more than your entry fee!
Signups for this tournament will be accepted until 5:00 pm PST (A.net time) on May 11. The tournament will begin on May 12 and continue until all contestants are eliminated. If the tournament is so large that a day off for Mother’s Day is needed, we’ll do our best to accommodate it in the scheduling. The bracket will be posted in this thread when complete, or individual players will be contacted via pm if the tournament is small enough.
To sign up, you can post in this thread with your ign, message Souma Ritsu in game, message [BBQ]Souma’Ayame in IRC at irc.gamesurge.net, leave a message in #bbqbay in Gamesurge on irc, or contact any guild member of the Pirates of BBQ Bay [BBQ]. Please be sure you get a confirmation from the person you speak to; if the person is gvging or afk and doesn’t respond, please try to contact them later.

is there a reason for limiting skills in the same class battles?

Warrior battles could all too easily become stalemates if skills like Dolyak Signet and evasive stances were allowed. At least, I'd imagine that's the reason.

I'm in for the Warrior tourney. Also note that Wild Blow, Distracting Blow and Frenzy are all no-attribute skills, not Tactics.

hmmm...
I recommend that two referees for both players (in both groups) attend the battle. I only have one main reason for this - as it will prevent someone from finding out who they are facing, and tweaking their build to their advantage. This is mainly in application to "The Best" style of tournament.
Sounds like a tough job restricting the allowed skills, I hope you guys think this through, and I'd love to join... gotta talk to your reference contact when I next play the game.
Give us a run down of the referee's role and actions would ya^^?

Actually making a tournament out of 1v1s is just plain dumb... What are we suppose to do? Make an all-rounder build, then just get totally wasted by an all out offence build? I think i'd rather save my 5k thanks.

In the hope people would realise how utterly pointless paying 5k to get yourself killed vs the first build that happens to be anti-yours. At least with the 1v1 Mesmer duals going on, its free, and its just funny to see 2 anti-builds going at it. Whats it gonna be, the first to inflict weaken or disrupt healing signet wins?

Sounds..... eh, it has some merit I suppose and I am intrested in it but like Evilsod said, it just might come out to be who ever disrupt the opponent's healing sig wins. Or it could just become a stalemate, what would happen if it's a stalemate?
However, another question. Are you allowed to change your build in between battles or are you stuck with the first build you choose.

K I talked with Souma Ritsu a little, but just to make sure i'm signed up i'll post here.
IGN: Cooca Racha, Blah Shaw (or any other varient of Blah Shaw) I look forward to getting rolled by random warriors.
It does seem a little one-sided and it won't take a ton of skill, but we will see. Also just wish it didn't cost 5k to get in, 1k sounds a lot more reasonable, but not up to me.

For all of you who may be misunderstanding, the tournament that will be hosted is the One vs. One Warrior tournament, therefore there really is no 'anti' or the 'anti anti' or any such thing. Most possible builds have been tested by me and a couple guildies to ensure balance and to make sure no one build will reign supreme due to build alone.
For all who signed up and would like to sign up, please put down your in-game name or message me at Souma Ritsu in game. Thank you.

Any 1v1 warrior tournament that doesn't allow Auspicious Parry is a waste of everyone's time.
