Default How does running make me a noob *silly rant*

Situation i was in today... All my team left(2 before i even loaded the arena!) and 2 foes on the other team left. Leaving me(ranger) vs an ele and a warrior in frags. I did the thing i would presume would be common sense and picked on the ele... Using poison arrow on him and occasionally pin down on the warrior to make sure distance was kept. To my luck the ele didn't have any healing skills on him so it was a case of just keeping him poisoned...

Thus meant i was running from the warrior most of the time and because of this i got abused hurled at me from both players, calling me a noob and several other things. This isn't the first time it's happened to me, it happens against alot of warriors. Can't understand why people seem to get so aggrovated because i'm using the best defense skill there is... Running and getting my ass out of harms way and attacking from distance. Call me Mr obivious but isn't that what a ranger is all about?

Any similar stories?

(just for the record i won 2-1 in sudden death)

I've got a story.

Yesterday in RA, my team got to Team Arenas and the first team we fought was from Te. It was the map with lava in it and of course they won 7-0. The W/Mo on my team was calling their monk a pussy, a joke, etc. because he was kiting, I think. So of course, since he was mad, he flamed their whole team pretty much. Everyone had a good laugh, though.

Most of these flames come from cretinous RA Warriors, who expect you to stand still so they can attack you, and would rather take Dolyak Signet over Sprint.

There is running which is griefing, in other words your team has lost and you are just running away from the other side to prolong the battle for no reason. This is BAD.

Then there is kiting, which is GOOD.

If you run for the sole purpose of dragging out a match for 45 minutes even though you won't win, that's stupid. You're wasting your time.

But running away from warriors is just common sense. A ranger who lets a warrior get close is an idiot.

People in RA are stupid. A few days ago, I was kiting while monking with a -e sword, and a whammo told me to stop running and fight him.

Griefing can win battles, people leave after a while, and therefore by prolonging the battle you are using what is often the only tactic remaining (pissing them off until ragequit), and its fair. The fact that some people will wait for up to an hour for the extra 25 faction chasing you instead of leaving immediately and joining again is their problem, and frankly if you come to a battle without some way to stop griefers then you can expect to loose when you meet a good one. When a wammo complains that you are running, it has nothing to do with it being 'cheap' or whatever the hell else they say. It's because they know they are being beaten.

Sometimes I grief. If i have a team of a boonprot, elmo, a decent mesmer, etc, there is a good reason for me staying a couple of minutes to see if they ragequit. That sort of team can farm the place fast and it's often worth it, instead of quitting and getting a mending team. They often do quit, even if I'm not actually griefing via running. If I've got a good axe warrior on my team I'll cop tank until they leave so we can farm faction and glad points. Frankly I never think its lame when I know they can leave and be back playing withint 40 seconds. If all they want to do is have fun they can leave and enter again... if they want to win then we play by whatever rule we want to play by.

Thats the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. Pissing off the other team to the point of ragequit is not a valid form of winning. If thats what you wanna do to earn that glad title or the extra faction, then there isn't much I can do to stop you. But it will be your problem when you have no friends and can't get out of random arenas because everyone knows you are a noob. Sorry, but thats just stupid.

Well thats your opinion. It would be nice to see a little justification for your opinion however.
Also, the conjecture that I won't have any friends and will not be able to get out of RA by Cop tanking for 2 minutes is laughable and indicates you take it way too seriously (sorry).
I often dont grief by running around in circles, it's usually me Cop tanking in the middle of their group... and generally most random 4 man teams can't actually kill me with a bit of kiting. Some people get pissed and start ranting at me.... these people are nubs. A large amount of people actually think it's pretty funny... for some reason the fact that I'm not dying in front of them not moving as opposed to not dying by running in circles makes it OK.
In fact, and I'm sorry to sound harsh here, but your statement is exactly the kind of thing I would expect to hear from a stereotypical paladin. Can we get some kind of definition of 'valid form of winning'? Is that the one where we are all real men and keep on attacking until one person dies, and kiting is nooby? I'm sure thats not your opinion, but from your post it certainly comes across as it.
If its any consolation, I forgot to mention in my OP that if they don't leave after a couple of minutes, I concede, since they are obviously stubborn enough to wait for that 25 faction, I'll let them have it, and I would rather just get on with it.

The reason why it is just stupid is that if you grief for even 4 minutes you have denied yourself the chance to get in and play another match that you actually stand a chance of winning. It is a sort of reverse faction farming done for no other reason than to show what a smart arse you are, as outlined in the post above.. Well done. There is nothing at stake in these games beyond the faction, winning impresses no-one, not even winning 100 in a row, and so needlessly extending these games beyond their natural conclusion is just likely to severely hack people off. So do everyone a huge favour and once the battle is over and your chance of winning has gone let it end.

When you win 10 matches you get a point for the gladiator title so why give up? I recently won a match with running against 4 people after all my team left and made it to 10 wins, would I have forfeited 20 minutes had been lost.

If you want to farm faction, there's easier places than RA so that's not an argument...

The reason that it isn't valid is basically you're being a selfish jerk. Just go out and play some more, there's no point in forcing the other team to quit just so you can get a chance at one more point on your precious gladiators title. Maybe the other people want that gladiators title also?

This is similiar to people quitting right before dying in PvE at the expense of their team just so that they can get their precious survivor's title...

if you're running around trying to grief, you're wasting your time, other people's time, and just being an asshat in general.

kiting is a different story.

Well i got my words wrong... Still fairly new to mmorpg's an what not so still learning the complete slang and terms. What i meant was this kiting. I don't like losing even if it is only a game, even if it would be quicker to quit and restart a new run. Same goes for PVE i will stay until our task is impossible.

However i don't agree with griefing... If that was my only resort thats when i would deem my task impossible and just let them kill me.

Just hope i haven't came across as something other than i hoped for... Like i said in my first post. I stayed because it was frags and i felt i could win by taking advantage of the clock, still required me to fight aswell as keep distance. Letting a warrior get close to me would be suicidal with an ele taking potshots to! If the ele had healing skills i would of most likely left as it would of went on all day.
