- Touch Ranger...the key word is touch
- The range of touch skills are even smaller than weapons.
- Using water spells can slow them down and work them off.
- Water Trident can knock them down pretty often
Elementist probably is second hardest against touch rangers (next to warrior)

thanks for the reply, but my problem is to kill, not to slow down. Im sick and tired seeing one those guys soloing gatekeepers/gunther while whole Kurzik team tries to kill him. I am really out of options here. I was thinking something along the lines of IW build, but the eles dont have attack speed buffs.
Rigor Mortis? Bah.. ele spells still deal pathetic damage thru ranger armor (which I still can not understand why), while warriors I usualy teamed up with are such a dummies it makes me wanna cry.
I need a reliable way to deal some damage to those guys w/o them having good laugh at me.

I see your problem. You're trying to deal damage with an ele.

Reckless Haste won't actually have any effect at all on a touch ranger, but those other suggestions are good.

If a touch ranger has already gotten to a target, and that target is an NPC that is pretty much static in location, then about the only thing you can really do is shut them down through knockdowns. Gale, Mind Shock, Meteor, Meteor Shower, Gust, Thunderclap, and such.
Thunderclap would work much better if Touch Rangers didn't have a tendency to use dodge, nulling your arrows <_< But lightning damage spells can still hit with consistency, so I guess you could cast Shock Arrow to harass them.
Gust, on the other hand, is cheap and effective, comboed with gale, buying you up to about 10-11 seconds of on-and-off knockdowns, chaining Gale->Gust->Gale
While those don't actually deal much damage, it'll shut down their source of self-healing, and somebody else can take them down.
Alternatively, you may wish to try Earth for its support and flexibility. For a toucher, you can use Iron Mist to make that trip to your NPC the longest one they've ever had, or supplement your party's damage with Obsidian Flame and Crystal Wave, piercing through their armor.
No matter what you try, it's not going to go well as an Elementalist vs a Ranger alone, due to the nature of the game, as Rangers are best equipped to handle Elementalists. However, your support skills can make quite a big difference when push comes to shove.

I slow down the touch ranger then I use the health degeneration skills at a distance. That poor fool can't touch me. Sure they can use vampiric gaze, but that isn't enough to kill :P

snare him with ice skills then water trident spam on him. he'll be slowly walkin towards you fallin down everywhere and taking dmg. depending on your secondary you should bring a form of degen and interupts. Snare + KD + Degen + Interupts = Dead touch ranger

When you see a touch ranger doing like 60 dps on those NPCs there's not much you can do except keep him kd'd or if you're a secondary mesmer use diversion or any interrupts if you can spare the room on your bar

Actually those 60 dps are first about 40, last about 10 seconds, then go down to.....10-15 dps?
Your problem is that 1) you're trying to do damage as an elementalist(as one said), and 2) you're trying to do it to a ranger(even worse ). If you're sticking to your ele spells, notify your team of the soloer(I've gone as far as looking around and sending a pm to the closest ally), try to disrupt him with slowdown and interrupt, and wait for some warrior/assassin/whatever that deals damage rage on his touchyness

A good old fashioned hammer combo takes 'em down, np. I've bagged my share of touch rangers in those pointless yet amusing factions battles with Dev->crushing->fierce->irresistible.
But with an ele, snares first, as other posters have said.

there are few options, i used to play a touch build as well( not a ranger one though, mine was superior to ranger but thats off topic )
The few things i had problems with were as stated above, knockdown, not very much by spells but hammer warriors
diversion can screw them over as well big time
energy surge + signet of humility -> no more OoB for them so they run out of enery in a matter of seconds
a decent assassin applying some heavy conditions (dazed) should be able to get them down easily as well

I don't honestly think an Elementalist is built for taking down something like a Ranger Touch build. You could probably do it with something like Mind Shock -> Orb -> Shock -> Strike etc, but that would not really leave you in a position to be of any use afterwards. It's especially not idea with a Rangers high resistance against Elemental damage.
You can effectively shut them down though, at fairly little expense. Water snares like Deep Freeze, Shard Storm, Ice Spikes... they will give the Ranger a hard time, allowing your team to just kite his damage.

eles dont work against rangers full stop.
Rangers have 100AL against elemental spells.
You best bet is to use your secondary profession to do something.

Read more than the title, he is talking about Elementalists in particular.

Like everyone has said: snare them, somehow, anyhow. Then you can do damage any way you like (tho i'd say degen is your best bet) entirely at your leisure.
