Other than the novelty and equality of it, is there anything about this kind of build that you think will work particularly well? I don't see much point behind it.

Being balanced and being able to pick exactly what professions you want, and adding attributes and skills later are two completely different things.

I could see my guild being able to play this type of build, but it really doesn't say anything about balance. Your offense gains its advantage by overloading some part of the opponents defense and it is really difficult to do this or defend against it without doubling up some class. Any top guild could still win more than they lose with an 8 profession build because they know how to create mismatches and kills through play, not builds.

What do you think of such a team? Will it do well or fail miserably?

It's definitly doable. The thing that comes to mind for me is a mixed pressure-spike.
One boon-prot monk. One rit spirit spammer / healer
One warrior adren spiking
One assasin shadow stepping and combo-spiking
One ele spiking in pretty much any way you like
One mesmer spiking with shatter enchants or e-burn
One necro spiking with shadow strike or vamp gaze
One ranger spiking with dual shot punishing shot
Depending on skills used any of those can run where necessary. Depending on their secondary professions they can all contribute to team defence and healing (ele would probs spike with air, use blinding and heal party. Necro would supply monks energy. Ranger would bring interrupts. and so on and so forth).
With so many different people and skills turning it into a proper spike will be hard to time, but severe damage over a couple of seconds is almost as good. Perhaps your mesmer shuts down one monk instead of spiking, or your ele gales him, for instance. You could also have a dedicated flag runner all the time if you chose.
So i definitly think it's doable, and not only that, but could be successful. The biggest problem is without a doubt being able to have only one monk primary and only one rit primary. Healing is more difficult, 'cos you can't have 2 boon-prots or a seperate spirit spammer and healer rit. But so long as there are other heals in the party and the rit build is good, it's possible.

Thanks for the feedback. As for those asking the point of this, I have no better reply to them besides curiosity and the desire for novelty. Besides, it would be interesting, for me at least, to see an 8-class team battle it out vs others.
I am thinking along the lines of:
Boon prot monk
Healer/Spirit Rit
Adrenal Spike War
Spike assist Sin
Heal party/Spike assist/Utility Ele
Anti caster/Edenial Mesmer
Anti melee necro
Flagrunner/Interrupter Ranger
As for the question of balance, I'm not going to argue over it. Its not that big of an issue. But just to clarify what I meant by balance in the OP, if the 8 professions are truly balance, the effect/importance of their functions/role should be equal, hence, a team with all 8 professions should not be any weaker/stronger than other combos. Thats what I tried to say

I don't think a Boon Prot and a Rit is a particularly strong backline. If I were going to attempt a Mo + Rt backline I would probably stack the Rt with protective spirits and have a straight MoR/Edrain Healer. I don't think even this is going to be as solid as a dual Monk backline though.
As Squidget said; other than the novelty of having all eight classes, I can't really see a point in it. And that novelty is certainly not a logical base for a build.
