And you know this will make 2 things more common:
1. Members begging for officer. Now they have a reason to justify it.
2. Members leaving to join guilds that will promote them immediatly, or to make their own guild, just so they can use alliance chat, even if it's of no use

This pretty much spoils the whole purpose of alliance chat doesn't it? It means that if you need to get people from your alliance for anything, you're going to need an officer/leader of your guild to be ON to actually contact them. In this case, Alliance chat now becomes nothing more than a glorified Friends list.

No, a glorified friends list where you might not even be able to see the friends. I hope someone with enough power to sway areanet sees this if and when more people point out how they feel, and change it.

We were looking forward to Alliance chat so we could yell "Need X more for Y" and get recruits from the other guilds. If players have to whisper an officer and ask that they make the request then what's the point? They could just whisper someone in the other guild to do the same thing. Lame.

Depends on the alliance, I guess. First of all, even in the few really big alliances not all 10*100 members will be on at once. Second, if you're not allying with a bunch of spammers it's likely that members realise the alliance chat's function and won't fill it with useless crap.
I agree that there can be some downsides to opening the alliance chat to everyone but the advantages outweigh them in my opinion. Currently the chat has little use. Toggle option would be the best choice.

I do not like how this works at all. I honestly feel bad everytime we make use of it. It puts further rank distance between officer/leaders and their members. True, in larger guilds it would be a pain having all members using it. However, not every guild would have that issue. At least make the option to let members use it(even if the default doesn't allow it)!

Well my guild only has 15 members and wed rather not grow any larger because 99% of the guild doesnt like to be in a lrage guild. But think of the officers/guild leader aswell they might not feel like to do all the alliance chat all the time cuz their busy whit something else. Because this could become really anoying in a large guild cuz if your the only officer online sometimes you have to do all the talking from your guild.

As far as I know, my guild will be allied with 2 other guilds. each guild with ~30 members. Usually not more then 10 on at the same time.
And it's not like all the people would be spamming in that tab just because they can...
That's hardly retardedly overwhelming.
A lot of pvp guilds have trouble getting enough people for regular GvG, I don't see most alliances suddenly get 10x 100member guilds, with everyone online at the same time.
At least give the Guild Leader the choice of whether all the members can use the chat or not.

If you are a small guild then I can see why you don't think constant alliance chat among all members would be an issue. In that case, then just promote all your folks to officers since you are small and close-knit and all of that.
For larger guilds, I would expect that one or more officers is usually on (our officers tend to be our most active people). If you need something you would use guild chat, and if that didn't solve the issue, then it would be easy enough for an officer to relay it in alliance chat. Not whispering required.

I think only letting officers and above use Alliance chat is a good idea. It lets the guild save face from the inane banter of inexperienced players. Although if the officers themselves are noobs then it's a different matter.

No!
I think its fun to keep it just for officers xD
Seriously though, if everyone could talk in it, people would just disable it because there would be to much garbage in it.

I am not sure what the capacity of a typical district is, but we held a guild meeting in Lions Arch International district one and it was filled after we brought only like 100 members and there were just a few non-XoO folks. Anyway, think of all the local chat you see when you are in a district and multiply that by a factor of say 2 or 3 and that's what you might expect to see in alliance chat if everyone in the alliance could use it. Is that bad enough to merit the way the system is now? I am not sure. I think in XoO we could manage since all of the guilds are part of XoO and we could post and enforce policies readily enough. For other alliances it might not be as easy.

The reasoning 'If every member could use it, it would get out of hand, etc etc' is faulty. Not every guild would have that problem! Many people are failing to see that there are indeed successful guilds who prefer to keep themselves small, organized, and full of quality players. I agree that in a guild of, say, 100 members - it could definitely have the potential of getting out of hand. But to assume that this applies to every guild is wrong. Many organized guilds could easily manage the option of having all members be able to use Alliance Chat, including ours.
I'm sure I speak for many; [AL] has many skilled and knowledgable players, but not all of them can be Officers. We try to keep our guild on the smaller side, as well as a firm 1:5 Officer/Member ratio; so many loyal and skilled members must remain members. In our guild's situation, is it fair that these ones cannot participate in Alliance Chat? No. In another guild, is it fair? Possibly so. It is wrong to assume that one guild's situation applies to the rest. What would be fair is allowing the leader of each guild/alliance to personalize their options to suit their guild/alliance's situation. So as I've said before, the option of allowing members to take part in Alliance Chat needs to be put in place!
Those who feel it would be best to leave it as is could simply keep the default option. But it would be such a great help to the many guilds/alliances that can manage having all members having the ability to participate. It cannot hurt to at least make the option possible.
So ArenaNet, please give this topic reconsideration.

they should open up the alliance chat to everyone and it should be the job of the guild leaders/officers of the different guilds to keep people in line as per its useage.
in my guild there is rarely a time where i am not on, nor one of my officers. this is for a reason; if alliance chat is getting mass spammed with unimportant chatting (i think it should be used for organizing events and shit; and little else) then the leader/officers of the guild causing the problem are not doing their job.
if the officers arent regulating it; then get new officers. and if there arent enough officers to do so on a continuous basis, the guild leader needs to do a better job ensuring that an officer is on at all times (or as reasonably close to it as possible; i hardly think spamming alliance chat at 4:00 AM would warrant a problem). and if it becomes a major issue, you can always turn it off.there is no reason not to have it available to everyone.
