Alliance chat rage
The latest update only hours before the headstart kicks off. It has given us all who recieved the update, alliance chat. In the frustrations of CE hold backs, and whatnot, has any normal guild member tried typing anything into alliance chat? If no, you will probably no doubt be annoyed by the message i received when i tried (see attacment)
I don't know if it's permanent ir an accident, but i thought you should all know.

I have mixed feelings between "why would you want up to 100 people talking simultaneously (supposedly)" and "why wouldn't you want for the average players to be able to talk to each other?"

I think it is fine.
You don't exactly have a low ranking pawn talking to a 5 stars general even in military anyway. Nor do you have a peasent address directly to an emperor.
If the guild leader believe that you can contribute to the alliance, then he would put you as officer anyway.
People from outside who just join to mess up the alliance won't be able to create misunderstanding.

I saw that too, totally dumb idea by GW. I can see why, but there are too many downsides to this..
Also, in guilds like mine there are no "pawns" we are all cool, officers are just more trusted and can invite ppl, bt yeah.... no pawns,

Well, then why don't you guys all be officer then?
There are ones who run the show, and there are those who follow the show. This is how it works ever since the ancient, and apparently was not something King Arthur and his knight liked in that movie.
Also, if what they said is true... If all can access alliance chat, and 10 guilds per alliance, 100 people per guild... you are talking about 1000 people typing in it. That is more than LA spam.
I suppose if they want everyone to be happy, they will have to put in a toggle option for this.

But guilds and alliances are supposed to be between friends, or to meet new friends, there are no '3 star generals' in alliances. And one of the main reasons i'm annoyed, is because i was reading one of the interviews by the creators linked by the main site, and they said something along the lines that alliances are meant to bring together a larger community. If you have have a messer in your guild, they're obviously no friend.
<edit> So you're saying EVERY single person will be on at the same timed? i doubt it

In that sense, you are saying you have 1000 family member who you equally appreciate.
So, basically we are boiled down to the point. No guild/alliance are the same.
Therefore, to make everyone happy, ArenaNet should add a toggle option for it.

Yeah, no one plays games because they are fun or joins guilds for fun or anything.

You are getting into an arguement that is purely base on personal opinion. And I had already acknowledge that there are many different kind of "fun".

Considering that they wouldn't even let the players from different alliance to talk to each other in the same alliance chat, I lean toward "no".
Good questions though... It would make it really difficult to get closer as an alliance if that is the case. I hope that is not the case. Can't even whisper the other players? That would suck.
It is still up in the air.

Well, I would like to bet the reason is to Anet's long history of their dilema about "Fun vs Real".
They would make their game mechanic to behave more real, yet if it is too real, it won't be fun. While they themselves really have prefered real, and the gamers would prefer fun. Then Anet get stuck in the middle, don't know which way to go. Usually they end up going to the players though, since players are their money source afterall.

Well, i think the toggle option you suggested would be best, and i'm sure if enough people want it, they'll probably add it in.
The thing they haven't thought through is "What do the regular members do to talk to allied guilds when the leaders and officers are all offline or away?"

lol, that probably did slip their mind. Or maybe, they hope that guild leader would pick a GW 24/7 addict for officer =/
I remember when my guild in an alliance in Lineage 2 had no officer or leader online to run the guild siege... We were kind of forced to help in the smallest way, even though we have vent/ts.
heh, just use vent/ts I guess... hope people can pay for the server.

It's really pointless for there to be alliances and only let guild officers talk in it. This is not the real world, hell, this isn't even Planetside. Officers get to invite and kick people and change the guild announcements. Regular people are the majority of the guild and should benefit the most from alliances.

lmao
meanwhile leaving the 'egos annoymous' meeting
A lot of us dont care a whit about being an officer let alone GL but offer, if not direct, in a lot of situations. So runners, callers, denyers... promote away if you want them typing. Sure the uber 100 member guilds maybe it was something to do when considering up to x10 of them. But I find it so far a bit of a joke. Guess we'll see how it works in practice - the gang should be in TS/Vent anyways (3rd party products ftw!), I guess since GW doesn't have voice chat this is their 'textual' answer? shrug.
