Cookie Cutter Ferocious Strike Thumper:

9 Expertise
12 Hammer Mastery
1. Tiger's Fury (Beast Mastery)
2. Hammer Bash (Hammer Mastery)
3. Crushing Blow (Hammer Mastery)
4. Irresistible Blow (Hammer Mastery)
5. Ferocious Strike [Elite] (Beast Mastery)

7. Charm Animal (Beast Mastery)
8. Ressurection Signet (Non-Attributed)
You'll find alot of teams want a thumper, well there you go. This has the most potential to get you groups in TA. If you're looking for somthing else(as in more bow-type), say so.

Well, I have hardly any beast skills and I don't know if I want to switch to hammer just to get a group in TA. Any decent bow builds would be great.

I can run crip shot but I don't see many people interested in a crip shot ranger in TA, But I don't understand why to use distortion would whirling defense or something work just as good without the energy loss per evade?

Here's why you pick distortion over Whirling:
Whirling Defense is "Block." Distortion is "Evade." There are skills, such as Irresistible Blow that will punish "Blocks."
Whirling Defense has a 60 second recharge. It lasts longer. Whirling Defense costs 10 energy.
Distortion lasts 5 seconds. It has a 5 second recharge. It costs 5 energy base, and 3 extra(in this case) per evade.
Basicaly Distortion is only used to break an Adrenaline spike, Assassin combo, or cover your Barbed Trap. It's also useful against the ever-so-rare Ranger-Spike team you face in TA. You don't need the extended duration of distortion, due to it's uses. It may add up to slightly more energy than Whirling, but it's usefulness is far greater than that of Whirling Defense, making it the better skill.
There aren't many highly popular ranger builds for your average PUG in TA, other than a Thumper. However you shouldn't have much of a problem finding a good group if you advertise as a Crippshot.
I reccomend you advertise that you have TS/Vent(if you don't have them get them) and a Mic(if you have one).

Cripshot is probably one of the most versatile builds. However, it does take some practice and teammates who know how to capitalize on it to use effectively. If you can find a good, probaly balanced, group while playing cripshot, you should be going somewhere. On the cripshot, however, I wouldn't suggest using barbed trap. I would probably go with troll, drain enchant, power drain, etc. I just don't like traps on characters that aren't specifically going for trapping.
On a side note, yes distortion is better. Distortion is on-demand evading. Don't try and use it every time a warrior is pounding on you, use it once a warrior or assassin is starting a spike chain. By using distortion well, you can counter almost every attack chain. Whirling is when you want long-term blocking, for instance for spirit spammers.
