If you're taking it so seriously, and 2 minutes into the match you roll the other team and decide it's not worth the faction to finish the game, simply /resign and go on to the next match. I happen to think it's a nice change of pace from the regular ladder.

How to have decent off season gvgs?
Get decent ranking during ladder so when it gets frozen you will play vs decent teams.
In this last week happened to meet non ranked guilds ( maynly during Dragon dayz ) but we met like a dozen of top 100 guilds ( we are ranked on 9x ) and i find this a good way to test new builds ( and maybe having some fun watching on observer )

Yeah, except that half of even the top teams are running random crap. EviL had a level 3 necromancer last frozen ladder. Top team or not, you don't get any decent practice against that sort of build.
If the ladder was frozen for something like 3-4 days, I'd agree that it's fine and a good time to mess around with Pallyway. However, it gets really really boring to fight nothing but useless crap after a couple of weeks when you'd really like to be playing the game.

maybe there could be like... a way in which we could organize unrateds while the ladder is frozen, not sure if these forums have a means of doing such... -
it's getting pretty ridiculously dumb with people running triple smite during the freeze when i'd say there is a significant chance it's not going to be quite so effective next season, you're wasting your own time and your opponents. I guess there's faction but you can triple smite that in HA where such a build would fit in

In my opinion any serious guild should use the ladder lock time to test new builds and refine old builds for the next season. Thats what we are doing anyways.
And yet, every guild we faced yesterday, except iQ and KGYU, were running Triple Smite, FastCast Air, or SBRI. *sigh*

First, because there is no pressure to win. You can run gimmicks simply because you have no lose if you fail. It's actually pretty fun to just mess around with skills you usually never put together. People who are so focused on getting to the top should take this time to cool down. It's not life or death. By "serious" guild you mean people who only take fun from winning, and once they have conquered, they taunt. In my opinion, these people are missing half the game. I play games to have fun and lose stress. This is an ideal time to lose that stress. Your "serious" guilds gain stress. Just relax. If you have big enough of a guild to work on your game, have 8 people run the gimmick that beat you, and 8 people running a build you need to practice, then scrimmage.
But, that's just me, who plays for fun, not to "dominate".

Don't assume that any guild who wants serious games taunts their opponents, or cares about nothing but winning.
Personally, I care about having a good game. The games that are fun for me are the challenging ones that require player skill on both sides. It can be kind of fun to run the occasional gimmick and laugh about it, but it gets old quickly. For me a fun game is a challenging game, not a game where you face boring gimmicks all day.

Well It's kind of good because you get to farm faction.. almost UAX. But then again they last way too long and if you're not running gimmicks yourself it's pretty annoying to GvG while the ladder is locked. Just get a faction farming build or fool around while it resets, that or wait till you find a match vs another guild that wants a serious match.

If you really want a good fight, why not just ask some guilds around your ladder ranking for some (unranked) matches? I'm pretty sure many guilds would like that and accept, especially if they also want a good match. Now with the ladder frozen, 'random matchup' isn't the only way to get a game going.

You misunderstand. The fact that there is no 'pressure to win' is exactly why no one should run gimmicks. The 'pressure to win' is what made almost every guild in the top ~200 switch to some form of triple smite, fast cast air, or SBRI. The season was for the most part, lost in a sea of gimmicks as balanced builds clearly coudnt cope and counter all of them at the same time. However, now that the ladder is locked, people can go back to being relaxed and playing their normal builds in preperation for the next season.
So my point is, and was, that

I'm not sure why some people post. They seem to always want to argue. No matter what you say they gain the greatest joy from telling you how wrong you are to think the way you do.
I don't complain about someone saying they like this break so why do so many of you try to make it out like something is wrong with me for wanting to play matches that are challenging.
I'm the OP and all I said was that it was less fun to play in downtime because the matches aren't challenging.
I didn't say I wanted points, I certainly didn't say anything about putting anyone else down. If you knew me you'd laugh to even hear that. Our team is always respectful. Win or lose we say good game and are good sports.
I just said that I like the ladder because it leads to challenging games.

The ladder lock is the perfect time to try some new things - I don't mean pallyway or 5 IW mesmers as this kind of thing is obviously not going to work in GvG, you know that before even 'trying' it. If you are screwing around or playing an already proven (i.e. it works) gimmick build during this period then you are wasting a great opportunity.
If folk wanna have fun during the freeze then thats fine. Its ok coming across a couple of guilds having a bit of fun but when you are out to try some new things its really hard to see how well they perform when there is absolutely no competition because the other team is just screwing around. You can accept this a few times but when GvG is flooded with folk messing around it does get very tedious.

Why make a statement like that without any following argument to back it up? I really can't see why having a long ladder lock would break up a guild. Care to explain?

well, it should be kind of obvious. People get restless, they start doing halls, realize their guild is kinda dead, and leave.

I think the ladder should be open but with no reward or anything, no tracking of the positions o nthe website. Peopel can still run thier fun builds and train new members but others can still play GVG against peopel who they are really matched to - my guild started GvGing the day the ladder froze, so we are stuck playing rank 1k guilds for weeks, apart from 3 days of gimmick rating farming.
