spirits are not useless in AB, a spirit spammer with doom can hit for 135, plus with other rit attacks they can be pretty nasty if used effectivly

Do you have high level armor and whatnot?
I find that I'm usually able to summon multiple spirits before being killed (and only concerned if I'm being heavily targetted). Realize that summoning them before you even see an enemy is often useful. Very long lasting spirits (Pain and Bloodsong especially) are perfectly useful even if you aren't there with them.
Of course, when enemies ARE coming in, the defensive spirits are great (Shelter, Union, Displacement), as they keep you alive to summon other spirits.
I don't understand why you are already dead before able to cast spirits. Half the time the enemy isn't even where you are.

if you are dying this easy, you must be doing something wrong, because i spirit spam both ranger and rit all the time in ab and i go MANY a game without every dying once...its all about positioning and being able to notice the people coming after you using the minimap.

I use dmg dealing spirits, like Pain, Bloodsong etc. to defend bases.
They do much dmg with painful bond.

I don't play a ritualist so can't give you any tips for them, only when I play a hammer warrior I find it harder to kill the ritualist when they stack their spirits on top of one another and use that urn spell thing that returns damage(sorry i don't know the name of the spell).
Maybe if you have the observe feature activated in the game, think it's pressing B you might find some of the tactics used by ritualists you see in GvG or HoH useful for your AB games.

The point is my team mates are always running around to cap (thats what AB's about too). After Ive finish casting my spirits, they've most likely finish fighting and headed to the next shrine. So basically, Im taking an extra slot in the team, and do not much.
Recently, I came out with channeling and curses build, and it works far better than spirit spammers. Now, I can channel them, and put curses on them. And at the meanwhile, I brought res skill as well, so whenever my teammates are down, I res them and continue to next shrine together.
