Basically use it as a boon prot, but instead of roffing someone to save them, aoe them first, and you can enchant them up as much as you want for 3 energy a piece

If you run low on energy, drop boon and use aoe with channeling up. Each cast near an enemy nets you some energy.

I ran this build in a few gvg's and it worked nicely (ran it in weeping stone...don't know how it does on more open maps.)

I have to respectfully disagree - now smiters might have to actually pay attention to the person they are smiting, and use discretion. That is, not spamming smites when the smitee is not near any enemies.

That said, I think there are more effective characters to bring in a slot, and smiters are still very easy to shutdown (Signet of humility, diversion and/or enchantment removal).

Not sure what you mean by this. AoE smiters don't typically smite off themselves unless under attack, and with Channeling it's your own positioning you need to watch.

Also, requiring more skill and attention to play is still a nerf, though a less obvious one.

I meant that smart smiting makes the build possible. Much the same as you don't heal a target that has full health, you don't smite an ally that isn't in melee range of an enemy. That's energy management right there.

Same as always. Strong in random arenas against bad teams, terrible anywhere else.

And I must say "WTF" at your AoE boonprot.
