Alliance Battle AFK Faction Farmers
Has anyone else noticed a growing trend of people joining groups, and then going AFK during the battle just to collect the faction at the end? Just yesterday I was unlucky enough to be in a group with one and then on the same side as another. I highly doubt that reporting them to A-net would work since they're probably already swamped by reports of people spamming public chat with trade stuff. I was thinking, maybe we could form some sort of list of these guys so that the community as a whole would be able to avoid these guys being in their groups. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of fighting battles as 11vs12 instead of the 12vs12 it was planned to be.

this is a good topic. i had a group yesterday where i was the only one fighting. the other 3 just sat there.
This would go well as a suggestion to a-net to somehow come up with a way to tell that if you are idle, then you dont get the faction. I dunno it's could be complicated, but heck its really annoying, and way unfair to you team.

Don't do random invites, do some sort of 'mini-interview' before you enter. Ask them their build or something, make sure they don't sound nub. Most people who do this will sound nub right off the bat, so go ahead and kick em.

See the problem is, even if we screen the members of our groups there still PUGs out there that just grab 4 and go. Between these losers, and spies coming onto our side and then leaving at the start of the battle I don't see alliance battles being popular for much longer. If A-net truly wants these battles to mean something they need to implement some sort of punishment system for these lowlifes. I would be happy with say, having the culprit lose 750 faction from their account and their guild if they're idle during the battle or drop before the battle even starts.

Personally, I think it's a very good idea to report these kinds of things to ArenaNet.
These people are actively making the game less fun for other people for their own enjoyment. It's essentially a form of griefing. I think that ArenaNet would be quite interested in hearing about this. If even two different players report one player, that's probably enough for some action.
It wouldn't take too many suspended or banned accounts before people stop doing this kind of thing. On the other hand, if there continue to be no repercussions, the practice will only grow.

Im honestly suprised how people learn so fast to exploit new things. Its sad really. I really like the PvE side alliance battles fortaspenwood, but because its random its easy for leeches just to enter battle and do nothing. We even won with 7 ppl and it makes me sick to know that one asshole got 600 points for sitting on their arse. Then i entered again and the SAME guy was there again ARGh. It almost makes me a ragequitter.

ANET should have known the alliance system as it is, is total crap. The AVA area need to be broken up into organized team and Random invite area to match up quality teams vs quality team and idiots vs idiots and let them slug it out. 12 man teams that win matches should NOT be broken up, they should be put on a timer waiting for the next available challenge (with a say 30second delay to cancel) if your factions are full and need to be redeemed. As it is now hardly enjoyable when you are constantly regrouped with teams that should be playing in random arena with their farm builds.

Yes because having real life intereference or having laggy connections really should be punished. Your a saint man, thinking for everyone rich or poor.

Real life interference does not stop you from pushing "enter battle" button, does it? And if it happens too often, then you should just quit and stop pissing off other people.

Laggy is one thing, but for some to be "laggy" a whole match, or stand at the spawn point healing themselves and dancing is something completely diffrent. I too agree there should be some repercussions for this nonsence.
Also had one match where the person complained he was suffering from lag but yet had no problems responding immediately to comments made to them, last time i checked if the player is lagging to the point where they can respond immediately to a comment made to them, they weren't lagging very much if at all.

The lag is never such that you cant move at all. Even on my slow comp.
Real life doesnt mean you need to push enter button all the time, like some people do.

You can argue lag, but no way should you be punished if you leave (DC) during battle, sometimes we all get err 7.

I was considering err 7's when I proposed my 750 faction fine. Thing is, that amount is easily made up in an AB win or a couple losses. So it's not the end of the world, and would certainly shut down the AFK faction farmers.

Step 1: ArenaNet needs to say it's a punishable violation on the login page.

I think that Aspenwood and Jade Quarry should only give you about 100-200 faction for WINNING. But you gain faction for making kills against foes. This way you will hardly earn anything for just sitting there, but the real earnings are for making kills.

There should be a kick voting system, say in a team of 4, if 3 vote to kick that player they get kicked out of the team, but they will be left with 1 less player but they were afk anyway so no difference except one less afker.
Probably going to be more complicated in a team of 8.

That's not really that fair, what about monks? I've had plenty of matches where I did a load of work and killed *no one*.
How about this: you don't get faction unless you leave the starter area in the base.

Well I am mostly a monk myself, and what I meant was the whole team gains faction for each kill made. Something in the region of 10-25 faction per kill.

Doesnt that mean the AFKer will get factions as well when his/her other teamates kill something?
The most annoying thing about this is that these AFKers did not afk because something came up in RL but on purpose. What else can explain some of them going AFK and then the next round, they are BACK in the game again and still remain motionless the 2nd time?
Obviously, they just click enter and went to do something else until match finish, and they hit enter again.. =/
