Rank 0? Read here.
I am making this topic to share and try to team up with people who have the same problem as me: r0 and unable to get a party, or get the random parties that have as objective to get 8 people and go die at the Zaishens.
I have been playing a lot of games (I am 33 years old, and gamer for quite a long time) and, especially in pvp, this story repeats itself: to be competitive in most games you have to either go ebay or find a group of friends.
GW is made by people who know very well a gamer's concerns and complains from other similar games: There are no once-in-a-lifetime items, and basically everyone can make a perfectly equipped char in about a month of playing. The fame and rank system for pvp is also a nice idea, which however ended up being abused. Also, I am seeing a lot of "fame services" and "schools" of this and that, which is something I personally don't like. Some people can do it and I don't blame them, but I have enough of "deals" and "profits" etc at my working hours, and prefer to play to rest my head, and enjoy the game.
I am here making a thread for all "starters" in pvp (and more specifically HA) that want to try and organise a group that will try to learn and advance together. More experienced pvp'ers are of course very welcome to help, but if your objective is to get paid for it, this topic is not for you.
So , if you are rank 0, and are interested in teaming up, discussing a build and practices, as we at least in theory might know them from forums, friends, observing games in Anet, etc, please post here. I am in the European districts, but we could team up in international districts to suit everyone's needs.
Also please post the character you prefer to play. I am playing A W/E shocker or a R/whatever, and would like to stick to that for the moment.
To mods: Please do not close this thread: The sticky is a nice idea, but unfortunately does not work for inexperienced players.
Try to form your entry in something similar to the one in the sticky, ie mention character name, prefered role, hours of being online, etc.
I hope this sees some response

Ive been PvPing for long enough to unlock over 140k faction, and participate in my share of guild battles, but im still rank 0 because apparently that means im not good enough to join any HA team.
Ill help out, i have mostly every skill unlocked, and am familiar with many builds.
Specialties are: Warriors, Rangers, Monks.

Good ideas to get fame in my opinion are these:
-Try to play Minion factory (Heal Area Monk, 2 saccers with BLOOD IS POWER, 2 rezmers (mesmers with 16 fastcast that repeat res) spirit trapper, two minion masters with 16 death magic. This will fool many noobie teams and will also get within 30second time for Zaishen elite. You can do this til you rank up.
-Iway (Pretty easy seeing not many people know how to block)
-EOE bomb (pretty tricky but kills in les than 10 seconds)
I'm rank 1 ATM but I've been to HOH and won before. These three builds are pretty easy to do and will give free fame.

Aswell, alot of beginner PVPers use these builds as well as expert players.

Ok so let's organise this, and put it in a format. We can discuss builds in Anet or here:
Character name Rubik Borealis (add to friends, so that you can always reach me)
Preferred role W/E (not W/R), R/x, also have a monk but no experience with the monk.
Usually online at 19:00-23:00 GMT (you can consult forum time, which is GMT+1, or use this to find out your hours: http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc
or simply google for it.)

Those are all great builds for beginners to learn no skill, as well as create easy fame for your opposition if they are not beginners. Further this helps show that rank/fame does not = skill. I love the rank 6 IWAY warrior that chooses to try to monk, the group accepts cuz hey, he's rank 6 so must be good, when turns out the Zaishen would take him to school. When it comes to HA, seems the only good group is a guild group............

I would be interested to help you in this limited capacity:a little advice to help you learn and act like someone who can PvP
1.Make sure you have a strong leader, someone who will call targets and assess situations and comeup with a strategy for the team, they hsould know the whole build so they can make strategy decisions
2.Do not be adverse to a certain combination of profession(W/R for example) or certain skills, be open to giving things a try. Theres nothing wrong with W/R its an effective build it doesnt mean you are an IWAY'er
3.Communicate your build to the team leader, so they know what they can expect from you. Be open to a suggestion to change something and if you are told to change a skill do it and try it. There is nothign worse than a leader expecting a skill on someone's bar, and that person didn't bring it cuz they "don't like it" or something dumb
4.Be open to suggestions and changing things around, try new things thats how you learn about new combinations
5. communicate. You should know your role on the team and if something is stopping you from doing that let everyone know so steps can be taken to fix the situation. Example: if you are a monk being burned to death by a mesmer, tell your team so they can hopefully kill the mesmer.
I have played with pugs that do not talk at all during a match this is wrong, always things to communicate. Use a free vent if you dont have one, such as SB vent.
Do not do EoE bomb, Minion factory, or IWAY. You learn nothign about the metagame like this.
here is an easy semi independant build that should be pretty easy to run and can be effective.
1 W (axe)
1 W (axe) or 1 Fire ele
3 Me (energy denial)
3 monks (standard backline 1 woH, 1 SB infuse, 1 RC active prot)
each mesmer calls a different monk, and hopefully prevents them from doing much of anything because you burn off all their energy. While this is going on warriors or warrior and ele go ape shit on the softest/most important targets.
have fun
*delete if you do not want it here*

Play in TA or RA for a while first, join a guild and play in TA with them, or ask your current guildies to play in TA with you. Theres a difference between being R0 and a nub at pvp and Being R0 while being quite knowledgable. Yes TA is completely different to HA but its a good starting point to learn. The key to fame is a good guild and or friends list. Not being high enough rank to get into PUG's.
Also as a note i disagree with icemonkey's point about IWAY, while i loath and detest ranked IWAY players, i do believe its a good way of Rank 0 - 3 people getting to know the HA maps and, to a lesser extent, getting used to opponents builds.

Having a bit of experience by playing TA still wont get you into winning partys.
I suggest to play IWAY until you are r3.
I dont like iway at all, you dont get any skill out of it. But you will know the maps and strategys when u are rank 3. And you can start joining real partys when r3.
I am R4(385 fame) and you guys can always pm me if u need some help (IGN Uranium Fire)

I used to be R0, but a good strat if you're r0 is to go with a all trapper or spike team or as a monk so'll normally get into a group.

I've got a rank 5 account and a rank 6 account. From my standpoint, I only use rank as a quality control however I've accepted plenty of rank 1s and 0s into my teams so long as they show a basic understanding of the game. It's kind of frustrating when you've planned out all the actions and timings for your team and then some idiot asks what does this skill do or tell me once we're in battle that they don't know where to buy a certain skill I told them to bring. If you're rank 0 but you can show a good understanding of the game then I think you're more than welcome into any groups.
Think of joining a team as applying for a job. Rank is part of your resume but there are plenty more talents you can display on it so long as you can prove you have the competency to help out the team.

This is a great idea!
Character Names: William Stark or Hal Beaufort.
Preferred role: Warrior with William, Mesmer with Hal. Both have got all the secondaries unlocked, but my greatest experience is with monk or ranger as secondary on William and necro for Hal.
Times: I am online far too much to be healthy, but usually from 1-2pm GMT, as well as regularly 8pm-12pm most evenings except Thursdays.
Hopefully we can all learn to get better together and have some fun.

ever thought that the reason your parties arent winning is because of you? if your a good pvper you stand a better chance of winning.
Your friends list is your most important asset: I invite a mate of mine to play with me all the time, he only just got R3... wanna know why i invite him? cos he's good at pvp. Wanna know why he's good at pvp? TA, RA and GVG.

well a nicer way of saying tat is
if u lose under 2 mins and 2 or 3 ppl died at the same time then u have really bad positioning.
if u lose under 4 mins and ppl died 1 by 1 then its ur monks fault.
if the game lasts 20 mins and ur team starts dying then its ur dmg dealers fault.
there better? :P

guild?
Why dont you try joining a pvp guild or make your own guild so you can get people in your groups. When i was rank 0 i went into a pvp guild and they told me some builds and i tested them in ra and then got better so they let me into their teams and thats how i started ranking up.

I may be intrested if i can find a time when others are online..
I would prefer to play my R/Mo (I use poison, bleeding, or trapping), Though I also could play a Mo/W if a protection monk was needed.
