Thanks for the Stream Anet
I wanted to congratulate the bright spark at Anet who decided that the opening night of the GvG season was the best time to stream a huge volume of content to a huge quantity of users all trying to log on at the same time.
Having spent 90 mins downloading content, our team finally arrives in the guild hall and spends a GvG battle rubber banding all over the map and lagging out for 2 or 3 seconds at a time as the servers struggled to cope. Great. Then there's a new build. Hooray, they've fixed it. Log off, log on. Code 5 for over an hour. Everyone gives in, opening night over.
Thanks for a really entertaining evening of watching loading screens. If this was PVE content being streamed (and I'd like to bet it was related to the Nightfall event) I might just shoot someone.

It took me less then 5 mins of which a few seconds was download but i was lucky being on the uni and having an download speed of 13 MB/sec
I doubt that 300 mb is solely for some skill balancing, NPCs addition and a new animation for a minion... I think you will be glad you have this 300 mb before the preview weekend hits... I believe it will be though downloading then...
Of course this explains why my friendslist was so empty...everybody was loading. NIce fill in of an evening

Remember that GW is automatically set on low priority, and chances are you were doing other stuff while you waited. It was going slow for me but you ctrl+Alt+Del it and up the process priority and it dled in like a minute

We heard people were erroring a lot, so we played a few rounds of HA first to see how big the lag and error was. After 3 runs with 6 ppl error7 in those runs, we just decided to cancel our GvGs for that day. So we didn't lose due to errors

its hard trying to interrupt with disshot/savageshot when the delay between them casting and me interrupting is about 8-10 secs.

Ditto. Except mine wasn't 8-10 secs, it was more like 1.5-2 secs.

The moaning was to do with it taking 90 minutes to dl a "balance patch", and then getting code 05 for over an hour, meaning we could only play one match on the opening night of the season which is traditionally ripe pickings points wise.
And if no-one moans, then no-one knows there's a problem, right?

It took me 2 seconds to decide not to brag about how long it takes to load my guild hall. (it took about 30 minutes to load RA though ^^)
I personally think that arenanet put out a patch that size on the busiest day of the season in order to introduce more bugs in the game servers, like instakilling flag runners when you hit VoD.
If you think you have a better reason why Anet would release a gigantic patch on the busiest day of the season, email me at

We had a monk err7 on load last night, luckily for us the other team had 4 err7's on load, so we clearly came out on top. Not prime conditions to be gvging in imo.

Sounds like ANET needs a Planner. HIRE ME ANET, I will be there to tell you, "Hey *scratch head* why are you about to load an update....isn't it GvG opening season?"
I think that would be a great job for me and a few others. We can be your think tank.
