The Penetration turrets.
Hi all! i'm back, this time with another odd build for alliances:
R/?
Attributes
10 Wilderness Survival
11 Marksmanship
10 Expertise
NOTE: without runes. add as you see fit.
Skills
Read The Wind
Crippling Shot
Pin Down
Penetrating Shot
Sundering Shot
Whirling Defense
Troll Unguent
(Blank)
Strategy
1.) find a target.
2.) Cripple Him/her with Pin Down, if that's not recharged for any reason, or if the target is evading your attacks, use Crippling shot.
3.) Penetrating Shot and Sundering Shot work for eachother. right after you use Penetrating shot, Sundering shot is recharged. and with the flatbow's speed, you're shooting very fast without the Arc of a Flatbow.
4.) Rinse and repeat.
Reccomended Gear
Flatbow, With 15% while health is Above 50%, with either zealous or vampric, along with a Fortitude bow grip.
___________________
R/?
Attributes
11 Beast Mastery
10 Expertise
10 Marksmanship
Note: without runes again.
Skills
Tiger's Fury
Marksmans Wager
Penetrating Shot
Sundering shot
Dual Shot
Dehabilitating Shot
Whirling Defense
Edge of Extinction (FUN!)
Strategy
1.) find a target.
2.) Use Tiger's fury and Marksman's Wager.
3.) The recharge times of penetrating shot and Sundering shot are a little off balenced, so when one shot won't quite make it in the shooting time, use Dual Shot for some energy or Dehabilitating Shot Against Spellcasters.
4.) Rinse and Repeat. Again.
NOTE: Best when used with a Hornbow with Zealous string and Fortitude Grip.
Enjoy the builds, if you use them. and if you see a problem with them, let me know. (i know the seconds one doesn't have healing, so try to stick around a monk?) Thanks!

Why do you have both crippling shot and pin down on the first build?
Also, marksman's wager is pretty pointless. Arrows fail to hit often enough that it might even hurt you. With enough expertise, you could make a qs build that deals far more damage than your second build (who's only use seems to be mild damage?), can use a damage prep like ignite or rtw, and won't have energy problems.

First Point: Correct, he shouldn't have both on the first build, since Crippling Shot is better BY ALL MEANS with the exception of condition duration, which can be worked around with Cripshot's low recharge time.
Second Point: Completely Wrong, Marksman's Wager is a very good elite, but it should be combined with a Recurve Bow to make sure arrows hit more often than the average bow (recurves have lowest arc in the game). His Armor Penetration bow attacks do enough damage to make the build at least worthwhile for use.

But the fact remains, a cookie cutter quickshot build with a damage prep will not only deal more damage, but have interrupt capability. The quickshot build will run out of energy eventually unlike this build, but only after any fight is already over. Any fights that would take longer than that (as in those huge battles that only distract people from capping) should be fled from in AB anyways.
I'd be curious to hear what good builds use marksman's wager. It seems that rangers have too many other good elites, and expertise is too good an energy management attribute, for it to be of any use.

the point of this build is to get past armor.. 40% armor penetration is 35 armor on a spellcaster, or close to it, and with the flatbow combo it can deal some incredibly useful damage. (20% penetration on the flatbow build) up to even 100 per shot. the hornbow build was another idea, but coming with the extra 20% armor penetration comes the need for an attack speed buff.
and i realize that pin down and crip shot is pretty dumb, but if you really need some time to get away and not spam it on the target, pin down is useful.

Horn bows have 10% inherent AP. Also, penetrating attack does NOT stack with horn bows AP.
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Penetrating_Attack
so your max damage is like... 65 damage.
EDIT: forgot RTW on max damage, but we all can add right? And it's assuming 15 marks.

these builds actually seem like they can work very well in the right hands.
The only thing I don't like is the lack of Spike damage. I mean even with a noob monk working a caster the caster will...out damage you. I think needling shot needs to be added to the first. that would do some damage and screw with the monks.
Overall 4.8/5 b-( ^_^)-b
