Default Best Guild in the history of GW?

I'm curious who you think is the best guild ever. I wrote up a few of my choices based on consistent performance in the regular season and the playoffs, but feel free to differ.

_____________________

Treacherous Empire [Te]

Arguably the most consistent top american guild, Te has reached a 1600+ rating every single season since the game was released. They have always been one of the top 3 or so american guilds and have won trips in both the GWWC and the GWFC. The only knock against them is they have yet to win it all.

Eternum Pariah [EP]

Going way back to 2005, EP ruled the ladder from the release to the GWWC with an iron fist. Reaching an astonishing 1900 rating and holding first AND second place on the ladder (their smurf, jet li, had a ~1900 rating with only 1 loss), EP seemed to crush everyone they played. They also were the metagame (or so they claimed). However, they were defeated in the GWWC by iQ and disbanded in early 2006. But for ~6 months, they were untouchable in the regular season, even if they came up short in the playoffs.

Idiot Savants [iQ]

iQ is a true example of a playoff team. While their regular season play is unremarkable (given the competition, they generally finish rank ~10 or so), iQ is a playoff upset waiting to happen. iQ crushed EP in the GWWC and defeated Evil in the GWFC. iQ has also won two trips. iQ has also perhaps done more to bring high end pvp to the masses through their posts on this and other forums. To counterbalance their crushing upsets, however, iQ has also had playoff games/series where they were relatively unremarkable.

Esoteric Warriors [EW]

EW has been arguably the most successful and consistent euro guild. Demonstrating ruthless tactics and adaptability running foc spike, EW won the GWWC season 2 championship. EW also won a trip to the GWFC, and were the #1 seed in the GWWC, although they were eliminated early. Still, EW is one of only 3 guilds to win a playoff tournament.

War Machine [WM]

As the "other" top korean guild, WM can make a good claim to being the top guild in the world on its own right. WM took 2nd place in the GWWC (winning a trip), took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the GWFC qualifying tournaments, and won the GWFC. Until this season, WM has played at well over a 1600 rating each season and is generally the most active top 20 guild in the world. The main knock against WM was that although they were undisputably one of the top handful of guilds in the world, they seemed unable to defeat evil, losing to evil in the GWWC and twice during the GWFC qualifiers. However, WM went on to win 1st place in the GWFC (avoiding evil) and WM has arguably been more consistent even than evil.

The Last Pride [EvIL]

EvIL's resume speaks for itself -- 1st place GWWC, 1st place GWFC season 1, 1st place GWFC season 3, 3rd place GWFC. EvIL had around a 1800 rating average and between jan and may, appeared literally unbeatable. However, perhaps due to a refusal to change builds, in the season 2 GWFC playoffs the #1 seed EvIL was beaten by the #16 seed Wi in probably the greatest upset in the history of GW. EvIL regained its form to win 1st place in the season 3 playoffs, but was again upset by iQ in the GWFC. But by the end of the GWFC, evil was appearing to lose its edge against top teams. Still, evil is the only repeat champion, winning both the GWWC and seasons 1 and 3 of the GWFC qualifiers.

You missed Val which was a dominating force since before retail, and also was at both world championships, kinda.

A great list and a pretty good write-up on all the teams; my vote is for iQ because they're all so damn nice to everyone, (ensign on the forums and Lucis in game spring to mind immediately) and because the way they play in championships (particularly vs evil and WM last playoff) is truly astonishing as far as ingenuity and execution of tactics go.

however, these are all great guilds, I just vote iQ due to the disposition of a few of their players.

Yeah, that was a major oversight on my part. I am pretty ignorant on their history tho, so perhaps someone else could tell us their major accompishments.

From way back when I was a PvE noob I remember a few more names:

Negative Zero, Positive Zero, Club G, Clan ZPZG, Temporal Treshold (remade to some guild I forget). Maybe not the best, I wouldn't know as I was a noob and they had no observer mods back when these guys were closer to their prime.

very true. Gale-locking warrriors (ANet fixed the exhaustion abuse). VoD glyph of sacrifice-meteor storm. iQ brings new things to the table, and changes the way people look at the game.

Other noteworthy guilds: the Fianna, Reno, VIKI, Blood Eagle. Many more I'm sure, that is getting back to the edges of my memory.

Another was Team Union. I remember monking against Team Union in one of my first GvGs ever. It felt like trying to hold back a frieght train with my bear hands.

If there is any mention of the ethics of gimmicks or of GvG vs. tombs guilds, this thread is getting closed. I don't like censoring debates, but when it's stale or absurd, there is no point to it other than flaming. Just throwing that out as a warning.

A good warning indeed. Also, Team Quitter/One Hit Quitters is another nice bunch of guys. I don't really care about how good the guild is, because the point is kind of moot to a certain extent--they're ALL good, So my vote goes for the nice guys.

WM for me. I love their playstyle, and they're obviously pretty good. I wouldn't consider them the absolute "best", they're easily tied with EViL, Te, and Val. At the moment I think QQ pretty much wins.

EP did make an epic comeback, then quit all over again before they even had time to reach the playoffs. n_n

I have to say EvIL just from their resume. They were just an amazing guild throughout all 3 seasons.

I Loved Illicit Awakening[iA]. They were top 3 for a while. They are awesome in their stubborness that they only play ranger spike and they were unmatchable by any other guild/HA team in ranger spiking.

I think over the span of the whole game, EvIL, WM and Te are the ones that have stuck around consistently in the top 5. There are others, but I think those 3 are the best (over the whole game)

It really really is missing alot of guild name in the OP post... hopfully we see some edit soon.

Voting really isn't the best way to decide who is the best guild ever (since it would be personal opinion based, and only partially factual). So, I hope we don't see this turn into flame war.

I wonder if KOR changed name and scattered around. They really really exploited some of the balance flaw back then. We really don't know what is up inside the korean community.

I belive you can identify some of them on observer mode because they have names like K O R Cute Princess or whatever.
