Default Frustrated with PvP.

I have played this game since it came out, but only recently forced myself to get into PvP. I have always liked PvP in all sorts of games. Everything from WoW to Counter-Strike.

But im so frustrated and mad and tired of the GW PvP.

1)I can't find a nice guild to play with. I have been in 10-15 guilds in my entire time in GW and ALL of them had;

a)no "real community" <- People don't respond much or try to help each other
b)at least 40-50% inactivity. tons of people on the roaster who had not been online in weeks and months
c)no function, or purpose other than having a cape

Because of this I feel that I can't do GvG. I have never even tried it

2)Ok, so I have been struggeling with RA, because TA was completely hopeless, and hard to find monks.
In RA I experienced a few times that people gave me applause and positive comments about how they thought I was a competent warrior, which made me glad and confident in my own ability despite having gear and looks and build at an disadvantage(1,5k plate, Wammo, with half-bad gear)...

But seriously. Most of the time. 90% of the time RA is a mess. I almost never get past the first win.

People rage quit in the middle of mission. people quit when im about to use rez signit on them. People sometimes quit because they get in a group with no monks.
people dont use call targets or respond or try to communicate.

It was even worse in heroes ascent. im not even gonna try to go in there anymore.

_____

All in all, I felt great when I got into a group with a warrior, a mesmer and a ranger(no healers) where we managed to get 10 wins in a row, and this is the only gladiator point I got. does where people I could "work with". People who responded, where polite, didn't quit, tried to get the best out of it...

But so many... I... I played for 4-5 hours and I can't remember how mad or frustrated I have been.

And I don't think it's mostly my fault. And thats whats annoying. Because if it was just me who sucked I would be able to go practice, but its not. Im depending on all these other people to help making it work, but it just wont...

I read the guide here on the site... I got tips, new armor and weapons from a mate yesterday who has a guild that is 170 on the ladder... but still..

I... I feel confident in my set up. I don't feel confident when I have monks in the group or other players.

I feel im completely getting owned if the other team has two monks, while they are dual healing each other.

I love GW, but I have never played such a hard game... I have played it so much that I was about to smash my keyboard. I have never played a game I wanted to get good at so bad.

And no matter what build I use, it seems unsufiicent on whoever im fighting with/or/and against.

And it frustrates me that I can't find nice people to play with. I meet nice people I have on my friends list in PvE. But all does PvE and are rarely online.

getting into an active PvP guild who wants to accept unexperienced players, who has teamspeak and stuff, are impossible to find. As an EU player it might be easier on the USA servers, but I dont know...

I wanna get good at this game so bad. I wanna have a gladiator title, and get fame and ranks and learn all the ropes.

It frustrates me that I need other people to win. I know the game is based around team work, but its frustrating when you cant rely on your teammates at all. Maybe I should just go do PvE...? I only have 1 elite skill, and have explored only 50% of both Tyria and Cantha. I have been in so many guilds that I have lost faith in finding just a normal decent guild...

can anyone help me?

Well, first you aren't going to get anywhere using sub-par equipment and skills. Go to create a PvP character and choose one of the premades (most of them are fairly good). Then go and take the appropriate perfect equipment for your character.

Then, be patient. GW PvP is a very very complicated and quite hard to learn thing. It takes a lot of experience and patience to aquire the skills to be successful.

Also, read up some of the articles around guildwarsguru and such. Try and find warskull's article on being succesful in RA if you're doing RA. Keep in mind that RA is basically the battle of the scrubs, and you can never rely on your teammates being even half-decent.

Practice, practice, practice, and practice some more. I swear that when I first started playing PvP I must've spent at least 100 or so hours just playing decent builds in RA. While you're there, try to see what you can learn about what skills do, what certain builds contain, how to react to certain situations, how skills interact, positioning, and all that fun stuff.

Watch observer mode. Even if you aren't interested in playing GvG, in observer you can find a multitude of player builds and you cna watch the very best play them. Watch not just the skills they use, but how they position themselves and how they use their skills.

Eventually try to build up a friends list of PvPers. Go into TA regularly with these friends and learn how to play in a more organized situation. Make sure to use a solid build consisting of good characters. TA can teach you a lot about playing and skills that you need to play. For me personally, I've spent a lot of time in TA getting to be a better player (being in a TA guild also helped that).

Try PUGing HA or going in with some friends. Build up more contacts and friends that you can play with.

If you can find a PvP guild that is willing to take you, do it. You should be fairly capable at PvP if you've been practicing enough.

Use your contacts to get guest invites for GvGs or hang out on #gwp.

Keep in mind that this is not a quick process. PvP really is pretty complicated, and takes a while to really get into. You always have to keep in mind that you are no longer playing against mindless AI and a gamestyle that is designed for you to be able to beat.

Well man, essentially you can unlock every warrior skill trough pvp, as long as you keep geting that faction.

My advice is, try out those zaishen arenas for a litle while, form parties with others like you which are there, wanting to learn.

You'll develop good team work, and even though sometimes its out of your hand, you can learn things that will let YOU balance the teams weakspots.

I recomend playing some PvE first, beat Prophecies, beat factions, shouldnt take long.

When you have most warrior skills unlocked, start pvping and unlocking those skills that you didnt unlock in PvE.

You will start with a small set of skills, I recomend using the Templates.

And one last thing, play with EVERY PvP template so you get to know at least a litle bit of every proffession.
Play with a Monk, discover your weaknesses playing a monk, next time you face a monk you might just find they have the same weakness that you once had, and so you can dig trough those weaknesses.

Pvp has a learning curve. If you really want to learn, and understand you have a lot to learn the only real guild that "trains" people is XoO (Xen of Onslaught) and they are most likely almost full. If that fails I would suggest that you read as much as you can about pvp and understand that becoming decent in pvp does not happen overnight.

1.5k verse any other armor makes no difference. Pvp chars are your friend if your new / poor / don't have time for perfect pve stuff.

If you see me on and want to TA or anything (in game name is Will Heal For Pizza), or have questions, I'd love to help out. Also, RA is just that, random. It isn't really any test of anything, so if you lose, don't worry about it. If you really want a gladiator title, the easiest way is probably as a monk. From my experience the boon prot premade is pretty good, so that will help you get some faction to buy whatever other skills you need.

If you're interested in pvp and want a good guild: leave whatever guild you're in, get good at the prebuild boon prot in RA, move to TA, try to join one of those 3 man guild groups, stick with 'em, ask them if they GvG, and if they do, try and join them. Lots of guilds screw around in TA alot when don't have enough on to GvG. Don't worry about never having GvG'd before, if your guild has TS you just have to do as you're told and know how to play your build, and you'll be useful enough.

If HA is your thing, do the above but in HA instead. You probably won't find many HA guilds in TA after the team size change.

If you don't do something like this, you'll probably end up in a crappy faction grind guild that mass recruits, or a pve guild with no interest in pvp, and as you've discovered, you can't have consistently good pvp without a guild in GW.

"3 main guild groups"? how do I found those?

the problem is that I have never heard or seen a big active guild that does not mass recruit everyone and spam invites.

I don't know

im really just into my warrior... I don't feel like anything else, but if it is for practice I might.

My PvE warrior is pretty decent geared I think. Here is my character: http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/3814/finishedqo6.jpg

is he good enough for PvP? All the gear and weapons I got from a very friendly player. he taught me alot of stuff and gave me all of this. But I still feel lost as far as PvP goes...

As mentioned above, the PvP char is your friend, without it, you will cripple yourself, unless you really have the best possible gear.

If your interested in playing a warrior in PvP, i would recomend that you unlock some of the key warrior skills, before you start. Eviscerate is one of those, it really is great, (i'l let some more experianced warriors tell you about what other skills you shuld get), also remember bring a res sig, at all time. A lot of people seem to think that res sigs are a waste of space... but without them, loosing a single person is a huge blow aginst you, and your team.

Once you feel comfortable with RA, and TA, move on to HA. Early on, i recomend that you focus on one class (most likley warrior in your case), and lern what the common warrior builds are. Join some teams (never join those that random invite people thought), get a feel for the game, and dont be disheratend if you lose. Remember, 50% of all the teams that plays "underworld" (the first map) will lose

No, he's not.

You only have one weapon set.

Your sword is using a Sundering mod, which is mostly junk. Your sundering mod isn't even perfect.

http://www.team-iq.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=1319

Your sword isn't perfect on it's damage mofidier(req doesn't really matter). Small difference, but it's still sub-optimal

http://www.team-iq.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=1794

Swordsmanship pommel is mostly junk, and it's also not perfect.

You only have a Major Vigor.

You have no minor swordsmanship peice of armor to swap to if you're DPed, against a spike team...

And so on...

At this stage, a PvP warrior would be so amazingly better statisticly speaking than your PvE warrior.

This might sound ugly, but this forum is not for high end PvP talk, if you want a good PvP guild, try www.team-iq.net

so if I get better mods for my sword, I will do okay? Will I be able to max it like a green weapon? I love the gothic sword skin and dont wanna change it

and I can just buy a superior rune, even though that cost alot of money

You need a Superior Vigour. You need multiple armour sets, such as a +health one when you're on DP (basically no superior runes). You probably should have a Vampiric Weapon of any sort (to kill yourself with in the case that you get stuck). It's also a good idea to have multiple weapons, such as perhaps Furious for building adrenaline and Vampiric for spiking, though strictly not necessary. You should have a wand to build adrenline for, as well. The Lieutenant's Helm is also a useful thing to have against hex-heavy teams, albeit less useful than before.

Well the sword really should be 15% health>50% but that only makes about 1 damage difference on rare occassions so not too much to worry about.

So either using greens or perfect golds (perfect does not include the req, you can pick up req 13 15 >50% fellblades for nearly nothing) is ideal.

Also, you will need to learn to play both hammer and axe warriors (especially axe) as most GvG guilds won't run only a sword, and builds often don't include a sword.

Equipment wise you really want atleast an Elemental (weapon) of fortitude and a Vampiric (weapon) of fortitude where (weapon) is sword, hammer and axe. You need the elemental so you don't degen while running around and to kill warriors. Once you have done that a Zealous sword of fortitude might be nice, as would an axe (some people really like zealous, I don't use one).

Skill wise you don't need all the elites, as many suck.
My list would be:
Eviscerate
Charge
Bulls Charge
Dragon Slash
Shove
Devasting Hammer
Earth Shaker (maybe)
Back Breaker

I'll post my PvE warrior that I PvP with shortly so you can get a better idea.

In my opinion, this is the equipment a PvE war should have for PvPing:

1 set of Gladiators Armor
1 set of Bezerkers Armor
1 sup vig, 1 sup absorp, 1 minor tactics, and 1 minor strength for each set of armor
2 helms of each weapon attribute, one with a minor rune and one with a super (6 helms in total)
3 of each weapon type (axe sword hammer), 1 zealous, 1 vampiric, 1 elemental with +30 fort mods (9 weapons in total)
1 Shield +30 always -2 stance or -5 20%
1 Wand/Staff for building adrenaline (mods dont matter)

Until you can get most of that, you would be better off using a PvP charecter.

Well thats what I have.

Some people have said to have zealous, I don't like it/see why for most builds. Some things like an apply poison sword or something running lots of energy skills but no exhaustion it can be helpful. 90% of the time I play shock axe, where the limitting factor on energy is not exhausting yourself and not the energy so zealous doesn't help.

The two gold sword will have fortitude mods if my guilds build changes so I have to run sword a lot, so include those in what you need.

Hadn't thought of using +HP armor, will probably have to get some in nightfall now every one has mentioned that.

The various helmets are +1 weapon mastery for each weapon, one minor, one superior (can switch vs spike, with dp or at vod).

Well, you can play fine with a PvP character, but basically if you want to play seriously then you need to either farm a pve character up to scratch or use a pvp character.

My advice would be to try and get through nightfall as quickly as possible, and then hope for more endgame greens like in factions which you will be able to sell for silly money in the first week or two, that should net you the money you need more easily than farming.
