IMO with Rampage as One in its current form and the introduction of the skill Mokele Smash, I would have to say that the shock axe builds you think of are currently being outclassed in both pressure and spiking ability.

They'll be viable again once Rampage as One is nerfed. Until then, gogo Thumpers!

Skill would be good if not for the 20 second recharge. Unfortunatly, make it any less and you're looking at making it too strong. There are better ways to gain adrenaline, and better attacks. This skill does 2 things in a sub-par manner, whether your goal is to do one, or the other, or even both, you're better off bringing somthing else IMO.
On Topic: As long as Rampage as One remains in its current form, Thumpers are gonna be the frontline character of choice 90% of the time. YAAhoo's are also popular for their ability to skirmish, and you'll even see a dervish here and there.

I've used it on RaO thumpers in TA before RaO was fixed. The recharge sucks, and the damage is comparable in to a single Irresistible Blow, but the 3 Adrenaline you get from it make it fairly descent in a chain KD type of situation if you have 2 Thumpers. One uses Bash -> Crushing -> Mokele, and the other one does Bash -> Crushing -> Mokele right as he gets up from the first Knockdown. I really liked running it instead of Comfort Animal before RaO was fixed. Of course, now that RaO has been fixed Comfort > Mokele.
The only other real use could be in a very gimmicky HA build... Get Infuriating Heat, and QZ. Now run two Backbreaker Thumpers with Backbreaker, Crushing, Mokele, and Prot Strike. Two Backbreakers in a single chain from each Ranger ^^ Although, it's just a gimmick and wouldn't really be that hard for a good team to deal with.

Rampage has been nerfed. Cant use Rampage when pets are dead/you have no pets.
constantly kill pets, no rampage? but no one dedicates his time/focuses on killing pets in gvg

Probably because having Death Nova + Putrid constantly exploding in your face is a good way to wipe.
RoO won't have its effectiveness reduced much until they roll out the skill balances, or make it deactivate when the pet dies.

Personally a perfectly viable nerf would to simply have RaO end if your pet died. That would mean that dping them out would effectivly shutdown the thumper. Of course you would still get putrids and well of profanes to the face.

Yup shock axe is fine. And you can still rival that same sort of ferocity that a thumper brings to the table if you run the perma rush, prot strike + bulls strike + dblow version. It's probably the best character for punishing enemy kiting, though dervishes can likely get close.

Shock Axe also saw some nice improvement with the addition of Critical Chop. That skill is scary.

Axe is still great at adren spiking, but fewer people adren spike than ever. But Esviv + crit is too sexy to every to completely die out.

yea...dT, Cel, sM, PnH, Tash all have about the same one or two adren spike builds (2 W/A Shadow Prison, Surge/Shatter Mez, Incoming Lightning Spear Para, et cetera or a reduced version with mind shock and shadow prison assassin ganker...its like they just copied each other off obs...). Actually looking at the rest of the top 40, even though I havent seen a lot of them on obs, I would be surprised if any euro guild wasn't running that type of adren spike. American servers are much more heavy pressure like searing flames/thumpers or iQ (and now ShOt) using degen with victor, but there are still a couple. QQ is running adren spike with ele midline, MH was running a pressure adren spike, Nu uses adren with dual dom mesmers surge/shatter/et cetera.
I think in pure spike the shock axe isn't that common atm because people are enamored with Shove hammer and Shadow Prison W/A. It is still a good build, but there is other stuff out there atm.

:\
I believe each of the guilds you mentioned have their own version of the same idea which suits their style of play.
