Its good to see that the PvP community finally has another event.
But the time that they put the event in is so bad.
What gets me is if Anet hates Smurfs and PuGs, why in the hell would you make this event in the first place?
Personally I don't mind to much. I mean if we can't beat gimmik spikes or w/e then we shouldn't be that high of a rank anyways.
For some guilds tho, this will tank them horrably. There will be so many -25's to guilds.
Only if they put this event later on in a fun season.

That would be awesome. Then I can just bring a few copies of Aegis, a few copies of Armor of Frost, and then I'll have the title too!

Well we'll be taking advantage of this weekend and formed a PUG just a day or 2 ago ready prepared now and farmed some random people to get rating ready to earn those champ points . The only thing that concerns me about this weekend is those guilds who deserve to be in the top 32 and will now risk losing their chances in the playoffs due to small mistakes against strong anti-meta gimick builds. Also something to realise is that good guilds still do lose to gimmicks, apparantly this seems to by-pass peoples minds alot.

Farming the ladder with lame builds, oh noes who does that?!?!
Granted, having this event just before a ladder lock is completely retarded, but so is everything else Anet has done to "improve" PvP.

Yea and this is already going to be an interesting tournament. Nightfall has yet to be proven an effective stand alone chapter. Almost all of the top 32 are europeans running shadow prison spike (which btw is almost completely core/nightfall and one of the few reasonable builds in the tourny). The amount of euro guilds that run a different build can be counted on one hand so variety will be limited (just glancing at the top 20...ef, ice, goh...yea thats about it).
The american showing will be poor. QQ and iQ will be solid of course, but Te, Tag, Ace, MB, Lame, and ward noobs are questionable. Te has no backline, they will likely not qualify for the tournament tbh. Tag has solid players, but normally play during uncompetitive times, I suspect they will do well though. The later four all have depended on gimmicks this season and I am not too impressed.

Each match is an inverse 30 point scale. To get a full -30 though would require a lot of work -_- Yesterday we started a new guild and had 1010ish rating and beat Pi with 1310ish resulting in a +25 so the difference to get a +/- 30 would probably have to be ~450 rating. That is of course if the scale isn't a negative exponential. If it is...then I think a full -30 is pretty unattainable.

you really think that some pug guilds are able to ruin plans of top 50 guilds?
i dont think so. But if they do, those so called top50 guilds are not worthy to be top 50

Morgoth - thats not fair.
The PuGs we're talking about are not the PVE PuGs. Its groups of experienced people from high rank guilds that play as guest in a low rank guild with or without gimmick to farm campion points. They cannot be blamed since playing without the playoffs pression is actually very pleasant for them, even without the rewards. At least two top guilds have announced their intentions to do so right in this thread.
A top 50 guild meeting such a PuG will still have significant odds to lose. Be it err7, meta vs anti meta, the enemy being better or simply luck in play. They risk losing a lot (including the playoff spot) while they wont gain much in case of a victory.
What will probably happen is that top guilds will not play this weekend to avoid situations like this. If the end of the season would have been in a month it would have been ok - plenty of time to recover. Now they will have very few hours (working days too) for the actual finish race.

Seriously Mystic, you're the one running Searing (F)lame way in GvG all the time so you've been doing the same all along, apart from the double champpoints part.
