I will not comment different skill combos, you know them all, but it is pretty visible that right now there is not direct counter. NR managed to bring one such but it is very narrow specialized.
It is some kind of sad how many guilds are ready to use broken stuff just to get a little higher in the rank (remember the signet+spirit bug that instakilled?)

It's DOUBLE CHAMP POINT WEEKEND. Of Course people are going to run really retarded mindless builds.
I think it's secretly anet's test to come up with ways to fix the ladder. I hope the solution is not to make it 6 man, or I will cry.

There's a large difference between skills that are imbalanced but working as intended and skills that are bugged and break the game like Signet of Might. If you use the latter and think you're competitive, you're an idiot. If you don't use the former and think you're competitive, you're also an idiot.

It is very interesting when people complain about offense being cookie cutter, but for the most part almost all monks when a season settles run the exact same builds.
I wish ANET would stop nerfing all these builds. Sure SF is dominate now, but in a few weeks something else would take over. Seems any spike will get nerfed now, as it is easier to just nerf I guess then get the community to bring protection from ele damage. People know the metagame is fire now, so why take all these anti-warrior skills, and have no elemental defense?

Mainly because there isn't really a hell of a lot of elemental defense, and because skill slots aren't unlimited. Notice how pretty much every counter to SF involves countering burning or fire damage, not just "elemental damage" in general.
There is no spell to cast on teammates that gimps incoming elemental damage, or prevents them from being set on fire, so anyone that wants defense against it has to run it themselves. Huddling in a ward will only get more people blasted from the splash.

You don't run elemental defense when you're afraid of being blasted to shit by elementalists, you run caster shutdown.

If the only elementalist threat is SF, might as well run frigid armor. I wasn't aware our monk was bringing it either, lol. From a balanced viewpoint caster shutdown would work better, but every team we faced tonight and yesterday had 2+ SF eles. :/
Came up against this build once..Yaahoo>npcs, and we just wiped the rest of the team. :/

Well i ran Blood spike in gvg over the weekend, its great people running searing flame you, literally. I would actually say running iway in gvg is harder than searing to be honest... and probably should be respected more than people running searing, same as blood spike. I mean if you played this weekend you would of seen that 95% of teams were involved searing flames eles, 0.5% Air Spike, 0.5% Ranger Spike, 0.5% Blood Spike, 0.5% iway, 2.5% Balanced, 0.5% Mesmer Spike. And ofc LAPD had there heavy hex but that was only guild i noticed running that.
It is nice that by doing what Spearmen did they highlighted an inbalance in a skill and keep there rep for running wierd builds
The sad thing is this wasnt just the case over the weekend people have been running searing all season.
hmm... was thinking didnt Spearmen have mebers from Anet in it? or something like that? making them a "non-qualifier" in some respects?

Guild Wars World Championship - Ineligible Guilds
The following Guild Wars Guilds have declared themselves ineligible for participation in the Guild Wars World Championship, due to membership in the guild by one or more ArenaNet or NCsoft employee or a family member of an employee:
치 The Spearmen 치
i got this right off guildwars.com
If im right the spearmen added themself there because they wanted to find imba skills and abuse so anet sees that there has to change something about it?
But i don't really care what the spearmen did this weekend whyit their build it just showed what it was all about this weekend. Everyone wanted short matches and not wasting time in VoD matches while you could do in the same team like 3/4 short matches and gain 6/8 champ points instead of 2, so GG.
and for the record ill say:
aye

Well from the sound of it, Spearmen seemed quite serious about their build as they did (as stated in the thread) camp until Lord moved. I've played with several guilds over the weekend, yours included, that really didn't care/want to play that long, unless it was actually fun to do so. I have a feeling Spearmen played to win.

Of course the build was a joke to us ... we ran it to have TONS of fun (which we did).
That being said, we played every match to win give the tools we had... which included turtling to VoD when necessary. In fact ... VoD is a very good friend to this build ... and we won many matches after being forced back to our Lord unil VoD.
We only resigned out of matches where we had zero chance ... like the team where very member was a Melandru Avatar or had Frigid Armor (you know who you are! )

I love the Spearmen actually, they play great and innovative builds people do not expect to come up against. It's just a great guild many players could learn off.

It seems like the 3 mesmer adrenospikes running around would've been very effective against the build, if played properly.

It was. I believe Squidget ran that against us and beat us in VOD. The teleport warriors and diversions were hard for this build to deal with. Our best hope was to catch things just right in VOD, but they were too good to allow us to get anything going in VOD.
