Fame System
I was just contemplating the uselessness of fame in the current HA scene, and would like to voice some ideas i have......
First, where i see Anet messed up with the rank system was the role it was 2 play in HA...Really, what ranks are rewards for winning....These rewards come in the form of emotes......Now this would be all fine and dandy except for the fact that they have not incorporated any other title or system of recognition that does not stem from emotes....Within this i see a problem....
The point of the emote was for a reward.....So i feel that Anet should make the rank system llinear or arithmetically sequenced so that the rank system is totally diminished and/or extinguished as a form of group making....The amount of difficulty and grinding involved in gaining subsequent ranks is what gives it the, mostly misguiding, impression that fame=skill...I say that Anet should make the rank system so meaningless that it is only for personal enjoyment of an emote that a player will grind for fame.....
As i have said above, the emote system should b linear and give an emote every certain number of rnaks....Every emote that u have "unlocked" is sitll available to u, and you may have the option of choosing which one you want equipped...In fact, they may have an option where u may combine 2 different emotes together, creating some super emote...
Now, the question becomes how to reward players in HA......Now, i feel that something like the gladiators title should b made for HA......Many teams are farming UW and Broken Tower only to lose on subsequent maps, but doin this so many times that they still gain a lot of fame....Now, for the skilled teams that do advance thru many stages each run, they should b rewarded for skillfully completeing every objective outlined for each stage.....They would be rewarded something such as a Conquestor point for every 5-7 wins they accumulate, and the title is based upon that....I feel this would b a true indication of skill within HA, or atleast better than the current fame system.
ANet needs to put their energies into a group making system.......I read somewhere where someone suggested an NPC where u register and group former pick who they want.......some sort of system where pugers can meet other pugers....Of course, if u dont want to, use heros or flist......
Finally, in terms of rewards, HA needs to be revamped soooo much more......THEY must make sigils as much as they used to.....I don't care how much they have 2 balanced the economy, sigils have to retain their old value that sometimes went 50k+.......They are core drops form the chest, and must be worth it.....Also, regarding the chest itself, ANET, if you are reading this, Plz go change the drops......Does it looks like i want a Gold Req. 13 Fire WANd that has reduce BLIND duration 33%? Make them something worthwhile, like GOld minipets or Green items that only appear in chest....also add NF items in there to, as we are in a new expansion.....Regarding the halls win itself, the text needs to be updated......First, a running counter of how many times that guild/grp has held halls and won favor FOR THEIR NAtion.....I want to know how many times [hex] has won favor for me, and id like to appreciate them for it....Also, sound bytes need to be updated....Whenever someone wins, a trumpeting sound or something needs to come up, telling me that someone won......Also, there should b a running counter of how many times a guild has won that day for their nation, as well as their current holding number.....

Anet cant stop people making teams they want if you were just to keep the mote for example it would go back to what it used to be eg 3+ 6+ 9+ mainly, rank is just a basis for player ability and skill. And as for a new title thats a stupid idea and has been discussed in many other threads, i think this thread will be closed as it is just like any other here to be honest. As for making a sound when somebody wins "screw that" 99% of people dont want a dam "trumpty noise" playing every 5 minutes.
As for the "group making system" they ARE implementing this, read site ftw?

No shyt.....No one is gonna accept any random pug....You have to have something to seperate u from teh rest of the pugs, a title which people could use to determine ure skill/effeciency levels on maps in HA......i feel that a title that is rewarded to people hoo garner consecutive wins is better than our current system....I feel the problem is that Anet tried to incoporate a reward and grouping system into one title, which backfired on them.....
Edit: lol at ure lil chekcing guildwars site comment.....it was posted on dec.13 and it was overshadowed by 3 other headlines, one of being winterfest which took all my interest as well as the game updates......Sorry for not scrolling down.....=[
As well as for this thread being deleted....i guess theres the chance but i feel that this directly connects to HA's grouping system and i would like to see further discussion in it

fame ranks have a reward not only does it give a fancy emote but it gives a 5k increase on the Balthazar faction cap so it is valuable for than just an emote. That is rewarding, as far as sigils go most pvpers don't really give a care (nicest way I can put that) about it. Raising it to 50k for that is very stupid as most people would not even be able to afford a hall and so what you may see is more grinding for that sigil. Also you said 5-7 wins would give 1 point in your sort of 'fame' system. That sounds awfully bad fame takes long enough to get anyway (for some people) without some silly thing like that making it 10 times longer to accumilate 1 point.
Also you've gone very off topic with the chest thing...its random your chest so getting a gold req 13 fire wand with 33% less blind duration is just bad luck. :P

Yeah. Maybe they should get more fame for consecutive wins, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, capping at 40.

Maybe. The problem with that is that it still takes no skill to get 5-7 consecutive wins. Looked at HA recently? It's 9 parts henchway, 1 part dervish/thumper imbalanced. You might fight 10 henchway teams before an actual challenge comes up. I've gone to halls without facing any full human teams.

Wait until the wintersday update. Last year our present was observe mode. This year it will be EZ-party window. And they nerfed the hell out of error 7.

Well, before you get ahead of yourself, HA needs to not suck. Right now with the combination of 6man teams + overpowered skills, HA is even more of a joke than it used to be. Winning HA is not related to skill AT ALL. If you want rewards, how about rewarding people who deserve it, not people who span SF all day long with henchies.

Yet another post about how bad fame is. As if this hasent been gone over enough before.
Do people with low rank really believe that removing/resetting rank and fame will allow them to get into teh pro 1337 groups out there, and that people will start taking fiery dragon sword wielding, mending/healing breeze using, high pitched sounding whining children?
people would find it just as difficult to get into groups and it would take even longer to get sorted. Most people would still just use guildies or contacts anyway while pugs would need to find out if people know what they are doing or not.
Going slightly off this over done topic. One of the problems that low rank people have these days is many teams prefer bots to them. Back when HA was 8 real ppl if u had a team of 6/7 u needed to find randoms to fill the team. Everyone has had bad experience with randoms picked up in districts who play awful for some reason. Im not saying all randoms are awful, but after some bad experiences Koss looks like a faster and better way of filling up the smaller party than standing in a district for ages checking a randoms bar and explaining time and time again why flare is not a good skill.

i just have 1 thing to say 9 out of 10 times higher rank does mean more skill just becuz those ppl with high rank even if they did iway lets say back in the day are better becuz they have found out tactics on every map and have learned new builds and have actually gained more skill by grinding their fame...

Define low rank? I dont know whats low rank in your eyes. This is what im thinking when im playing ha. I used to be make a group when i whas between rank 5 and 7.
Im rather choose one off my friends in my friendslist then a random. Butt if i have to choose between rank this is mine oppinion.
rank 0 - 3 NO.
rank 3 - 5 NO.
rank 6 - 9 Maybe.
rank 9 -12 Yes
Rather have a rank 6 person who actually played ele, monk , mesmer etc. Then a rank 9 iway warrior who always plays iway.
If the person is rank 0-3 i have to know the guy to play with him in ha (it can be a guildie, guildies friend or one off mine friends).
Im not let a rank 3 random join my group cus he played freaky SF with heroes. I know its harse butt i mean comeone if i dont know the guys.
Thats my point of view

i don't know what rank 9 guys you guys are used to playing with but from my experience a significant amount of them.... i'd say a good 90% are garbage. you don't need 9000 fame to know the tactics for a relic run, funnily enough it's a pretty similar tactics to win one at 9000 fame as it is at 204. If you don't suck ass at guild wars how much experience do you really need to not suck at HA. not a lot.

Just one thing. Without rank, it's be even harder to find good group, because the ones that are currently only taking r3/6/9+ players will only go with their guildies and friend list.

fame is useless when you rely on it absolutely as a measure of player skill (wtf this is a team game and not everybody is running the same characters all of the time) but it is useful in getting a new slash emote. sometimes i get bored doing /dance, /rock, /jump, /sit, /boo and it's good to have that /rank.

I am sure if ANet had it so that characters couldn't display their titles and such, we wouldn't be having this (or many other discussions). Whether I am doing any type of PvP or over in the PvE side of things, when it comes down to it people for the most part, people don't care about other people's displayed titles. I could personally care less that that person over there has a Cartography or Protector title or is rank 9 or have a Champion title. Yes, it is nice to display your accomplishments, but its not needed. You don't see real people getting a promotion at their work and then walking around with signs telling everybody. I am happy for them, but it doesn't directly relate to me. I've played with a wide range of people (from total clueless people to very well experienced players and I consider myself right there in the middle). People should base things on trust, knowledge, and communication. That is the only way people will get better. Its not hard to accept someone, regardless of rank, have them ping their build, go over strategy, directly tell them and make sure they know what to do, and go forth. If you happen to lose, more times than not, its not just because of that "one person". If you lose, oh well! Just dismiss the "weakest link", add someone else, repeat the communication process, and go again. I think everyone seems to be more infatuated with winning the quickest way possible and than just playing the game and let nature take its course. Just my $0.02

The reason of having titles is self accomplishment. Instead of just saying "yay...I got [insert title accomplishment here]" with no "physical proof" in this physical/material world we live in, people can smile, press H, and physically see their accomplishment. Its really the only way people will be happy is if they have something to physically look at. And you are exactly right....the problem is people interpret them.

Thats how it is at the moment. ANet added heroes + changed to 6v6. Can't see any other reason to HA other than to grind for ur next emote.

other ways of devaluing rank is giving them as a reward in AB, Aspenwood, RA, TA, Ascalon Arena, Hero Battles and Shiverpeaks Arena.
