Predictions - Winterfest, Xunlai Tournament House
In this thread, I hope that posters will display their prediction for the winterfest tournament, so that all may see and learn. It should be beneficial, since within the Xunlai Tournament house (which is Anet's new feature that allows players to predict results of upcoming tournaments for small prizes), we are able to modify our choices up until game time. (12:00 GMT, 12/16)
I think posting all 32 would be silly, so I'll post only my top 10. That's what we're really interested in, anyway.
1) Team Everfrost
2) Team Quitter
3) Clan Detained
4) Peace and Harmony
5) Ominous Latin Name
6) Chaossanctuary
7) Frozen Flame
8) Rus Corp
9) Esoteric Warriors
10) The Celebrities
I'm rooting for both QQ and eF, unfortunately.
Dark Horse: Rus Corp. They've been practicing hard.
Have a solid chance: EW, tag, dT
> Post and defend yours.
**EDIT: updated my standings, like 'em a little better now.

Europe has been much stronger than people here give it credit for a long time, and even moreso recently. I would not be surprised if this tournament was a coming out party of sorts for the region.
Peace,

I'd have expected more not elegible guilds.
Sat iQ not to be part of this playoff, they always have nice approach to the metagame.

The map chosen for the 5th round of Swiss play for the Winterfest 2006 Ladder Season Playoffs has been changed from the Warrior’s Map to the Frozen Isle map.

I merged your thread with the one I already made about the playoffs and people's speculations.

I don't think you guys are giving ICE enough credit. They've shown themselves to be quite effective in previous tournament play (I believe they placed 5th last fun season), and I think they'll make an excellent showing this time around. I'd personally place higher than, say, dT or Cel.

I have necro raiders at 32 . They spiked their way in this time, and I still don't know how people lost to over the top monk hate hex build with Soul Barbs and other joy. Gotta admit though they are funny to watch.
My original number 32 had dropped out .

Confirmed. Anyone in the top 50 who sent in a roster gets free bronze trim. Seems kind of off, but since I'm one of those getting it I guess I won't complain too much.

I have issues giving a full list with individual rankings, so I'll make tiers of my favorites, top tier being best etc:
1: eF and QQ. This will imo be the match to watch (and I would be absolutely STUNNED if it doesn't occur). They are both definitely the best guilds in their prospective regions atm and the best guilds in guildwars all around. They both have alot of geniune talent, but I think QQ might have a bit of an edge since they have been running 50 thousand different builds lately. Then again, eF only has 8 losses this season. Should be epic.
2: PnH and Chaossanctuary. These two guilds are so highly underrated imo. Chaossanctuary looks really solid, and didn't even do that horribly last tournament (didn't they knock out te?) - and suppossedly they didn't even have their full roster last time. PnH meanwhile is probably the most consistantly performing guild in this entire game for the past year/year and a half. They have always been right below the very top, and that ain't bad. They showed last tournament they can hold their own, and they have experience with alot of different playstyles and have some genuinely good players. Wheres the love?
3: EW. Slightly weaker this season, but they have tournament experience and can play different builds. Plus I like them.
4: hoping for these guilds to upset: Legion of Losers, ICE, OUT. I really had no clue who ICE was except for a somewhat competant euro guild until last seasons tournament, when they did surprisingly well (and did not recieve nearly enough kudos). They may have run a lame build most of this season ("its how you use it" whatever JR~) but I'm expecting something destruction from them. Legion of losers is also much better than people seem to give them credit for, and last tournament they did pretty well also. OUT have a strange ability to look mediocre one game and look great the next - so in tournament play they may just look awesome the entire time. Also with their build histories I'd expect them to come up with something creative for this playoffs.
I hope to watch these high ranked guilds crash and burn: Clan Detained, The Celebrities, Supernova Japan. Clain Detained and Cel both got up there as one trick ponies, have no previous tourny experience (well, some members do, but still) and frankly dont ever look that impressive on obs mode. Yay for the 321 though? How did spnv get up there (and holy cow 55 losses).
I cant believe these guilds are not in the playoffs: Ghostly Heroes and Cow. GoH has never seemed like a top 10 guild, but they have always seemed like the kind of guild that is a steady top 20 performer, at least skillwise. I was always hoping they would be a guild to break away to the top one season. Cow is also better than alot of people give them credit for (most of america seems to hate them?), I think they suffered this season from running builds with some glaring weaknesses which could be spotted and countered after the first encounter.

GoH kinda got raped over and over in the weekend. Hmm can't recall their rank before the weekend but i thought if they didnt play in the weekend they would have been able to enter.
